  • Marvelous performance

by mbsoz45 on 2/2/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Everything about the production was superb. The leads had beautiful voices, the full orchestra played splendedly, and the sets and costumes were equisite. I had no idea the North Carolina Opera Company could present such a wonderful performance.

The music, the singers, the story-I get goosebumps just remembering. Wow if you get a chance to see La Boehme, take it!

Masterful orchestra, moving and charismatic acting with beautiful voices displaying a variety of ranges. Everyone worked beautifully, seamlessly together to create a moving rendition of this tragic opera.

  • 1st time opera goer, we’ll be back!

by Karen on 2/2/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Wonderful performance, everything was delightful from the singers, musicians & set to the venue and the ease of getting in & out quickly. Loved the subtitles so we could understand what was being sung so beautifully.

  • We'll done

by Babs on 2/2/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

It was not NYC but nicely done. Switching sets took some time which was distracting. The theatre was full and many took off masks once inside which troubled me a great deal

  • A wonderful evening!

by Bonnie on 1/31/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

My husband and I booked a nearby hotel overnight so we could enjoy without snow worries. The performance was wonderful. Beautifully done. The sets and costuming were very well done as well. Some amazing young voices on their way up.

  • La Boheme

by Twiningwood on 1/31/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Our children bought us tickets for my husband's 70th birthday. They figured we didn't need more knick knacks, tools, clothing or other objects to store in our home. The idea was to give us a memorable experience. Well, they succeeded marvelously! Everything about the performance was stellar. The orchestra was first rate. The sets transported the audience into 19th century Paris. But it was (as one might expect) the principals, Mimi and Rodolfo, Musetta and Marcello, and a very sturdy Colline who transported us with the soaring heart breaking music of Puccini. They not only sang well; they truly put their hearts into their performance. They could act as well as sing. But I would be remiss if I failed to mention the chorus and the street scene in Act 2. The set, the costumes and the choreography complemented the music and singing beautifully. It may be a reliable measure of the overall excellence of this performance that at least some among the audience were struggling to resist the urge to climb onto the stage just to be in that world.

  • Fantastic!

NCOpera production was first rate. Set design, performers and orchestra all good. And not a bad seat in the house.

  • La Boheme is a Beautiful Opera

by Stavena on 1/27/15San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

It is certainly in the top 5 favorite operas. San Diego Opera did a great job, especially given all their troubles last year. The company is 50 years old now. The director noted that La Boheme was their first opera and it is appropriate that it was the first opera for the new, reorganized company.

  • Wonderful Surprise!

by JCopera on 11/24/14Tilles Center Concert Hall - BrookvilleRating: 5 out of 5

The performance of La Boheme at the Tilles Center was a fantastic surprise. Lead singer Won Whi Choi sang tenor beautifully! Brandi Sutton was wonderful as Mimi. Each cast member's voice complemented the performance. Entire evening was perfect.

  • La Boheme

by 131131 on 5/15/14Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - MilwaukeeRating: 1 out of 5

Having seen many operas before in New York, I had high hopes for my first opera here in Milwaukee. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. First of all, my view was obstructed by a steel rod that was five inches too high. The only way to see everyone on stage was to sit at the edge of my seat and lean over, which is not a comfortable way to sit. Second, there was no reason to have 15-20 min breaks between every act. What a waste of time. I would rather have liked one break at the halfway point (after act 2) that lasted 30 minutes so it gave me enough time to walk over to the opposite side of the venue to use the ladies' room. Third, the set design and costume design was very outdated and lacked character. Fourth, there was no reason to have so many actors at once (I think it was during act 2); it was hard to tell who was singing and focus on the main characters. Fifth, the venue is totally lacking in decor. Poor lighting lends to horrible photography and there's nothing wow about the place. It doesn't look like a place where one would see an opera. It looks like a boring school auditorium. I wish I could get my money back.

  • La Boheme was very enjoyable.

by DS42 on 5/15/14Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5

The singing, the acting was wonderful. I saw a great number of reactions to actions and word. The one thing that bothered me in this production of La Boheme was the lead"s body freezing while the audience clapped. The words printed in English might be lowered to make watching the action on stage while reading easier.

  • La Boheme was well done

by Joyfl1 on 5/14/14Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - MilwaukeeRating: 3 out of 5

I have seen nearly all operas first at the Met and later the NY City Opera (expense was a consideration). I truly enjoy the Florentine Opera for if not for you, where would I go to gain this rewarding rich experience. I live far away from these amenities but Milwaukee is nicely accessible. I truly appreciate the productions and they are very well done by talented artists.

  • Great Production

by BugS530 on 5/14/14Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - MilwaukeeRating: 4 out of 5

The costuming and staging were great. The lead singers had wonderful voices - especially the tenor in the role of Rudolpho with the very rich melodic/lyrical voice. Unfortunately, there seemed to be acoustic problems when vocalist entered certain areas of the stage. The sound levels of the singer's were affected and was therefore distracting. I would have given it a score of 4.5 if that had been possible.

  • La Boheme is everyone's favorite

by appleass on 5/14/14Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - MilwaukeeRating: 3 out of 5

I thought the principal performers left something to be desired. They were technically sound, but their voices were somewhat weak. The stage settings and costumes were good. The orchestra was excellent as usual.
