About

Kris Kristofferson on Tour

When Kris Kristofferson hits the stage, it's clear why he's become a legend of outlaw country. He plays it like he feels it — as an unfancy, master singer-songwriter, sometimes with a band and sometimes without, strumming his acoustic guitar and delivering his game-changing songs with well-weathered style. His character-rich voice lets you know he's been around the block more than once, and the songs combine a poet's command of language with a country singer's knack for putting things together organically so they go down easy. Along the way, he slips in his one-of-a-kind perspective on things. He might be unpacking the wistful romanticism of "Me and Bobby McGee" or depicting the morning-after madness of "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down," but he always makes you see the world a bit differently.

Kris Kristofferson in Concert

After Kris Kristofferson first started making waves in Nashville in the late '60s, country music (and American music) was forever changed. Singer-songwriters had never written so frankly about sensuality, and country had never had its own Bob Dylan before. With Kristofferson came a glorious collision of poetry-laden lyrics and countercultural sensibilities with the attitude of rock 'n' roll and the template of classic country. Besides making waves with his own albums, he reached into our collective conscience through his songs' numerous covers, performed by artists like Janis Joplin ("Me and Bobby McGee") and Sammi Smith ("Help Me Make It Through the Night"). Before the '70s were over, his natural charisma and chiseled countenance had helped make him a movie star too, with films like Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and A Star Is Born. Later he became a member of legendary supergroup The Highwaymen, alongside Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. As the decades passed, Kristofferson has never backed away from his commitment to write and perform to the utmost of his abilities. He's a true-blue American legend.

  • Such a Great Show!

by RB on 2/25/19Paramount Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Kris was in great form, even better than the last time I saw him a few years ago. He seemed to be having fun playing with The Strangers who often played with Merle Haggard. Kris's singing often brought tears to my eyes, especially when he sang For the Good Times. He also made me laugh at times and made me think during songs like Jesus Was a Capricorn that are unfortunately still very relevant. So glad I had the opportunity to see this legend again!

Kris Kristofferson is amazing. It's not easy at 83 to entertain us! We loved the Merle Haggard band. Especially the young guy. He could sing.

  • Wonderful evening

Kris Kristofferson is still as good as ever! Song after song...no chit chatting between. We loved every minute of this concert.

  • Kris Kristofferson San Diego Concert

by KenB on 1/25/19Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

Kris Kristofferson is one of the greatest song writers of our time. Pairing him with Merle Haggard's Band was genius. The Balboa Theater is a nice venue. It was a very enjoyable evening spent with a legend.

  • Loved it

    by K on 1/25/19Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

Master storyteller with his songs ! I really enjoyed all of the perfomance, but would have liked a few more of the oldies (since I am an oldie). Great show.

  • Wonderful

by Trissia on 1/25/19Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

First time at the Balboa and it was perfect. All seats are good. The sound was great. First time seeing Kris and he and The Strangers were amazing. 2 hour show. Happy to see him without paying way too much.

  • Best Kristofferson concert I've seen, and I've seen a bunch!

by caehouse on 1/25/19Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

The Globe theatre offered some very good acoustics, a helpful and friendly staff, and a generally great venue for this concert. Kris seemed energized by the Strangers band (and his nephew!) playing behind him and was in great voice. I was glad to see him picking instead of just strumming, like the last couple of times I've seen him. I guess his hand is better. The Strangers, especially fiddle player Scott Joss were wonderful, too. I saw him in the lobby after the show signing autographs and taking selfies. What a generous man! Overall, this was a great show in a great venue, and that made for a wonderful and memorable experience for us. We are very glad that we went.

  • Wonderful performance. I only wish I was seated closer!

  • Kris Kristofferson San Diego

    by S. on 1/25/19Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

Great venue. What a treat to see Kris Kristofferson sing. I enjoyed his performance thoroughly. The one negative (a big one) was people taking photos and videos throughout the concert. It's not only this venue, it is at most concerts. It is distracting. And rude to those around you. The ushers tried to control it,but couldn't. That alone may keep me from going to a future show.

  • Kris nails it

by Ringomax on 1/25/19Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Good show -- age has somewhat diminished his vocal range but overall he held his own -- backed up by The Strangers ( Merle Haggard's band ) who were excellent musicians and pitched in quite admirably on vocals. KK performed for almost 2 hours and his set list reminded you of what a prolific and literate songwriter he is. This was time well spent -- more than got our money's worth.

  • Great show

by cb on 1/22/19Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - BoiseRating: 5 out of 5

I was so very fortunate to see Kris Kristofferson, one of the greatest songwriters of our time. For me, it was a very memorable experience. I have always admired him, his work, and the fact that he has lived his life his own way. It was a treat to see The Strangers. The Morrison Center in Boise was a very nice venue. His performance met/ exceeded my expectations.

  • One of the worst concerts I have ever attended.

by Edward Glennon on 1/21/19Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - BoiseRating: 1 out of 5

The concert was very disappointing. Kris sang in the same mush mouthed way on ALL songs. I swear he sang the same song over 25 times. There was no change in tempo or beat. No back drops to divert attention. Kris should go back to writing songs and stop trying to sing them..

  • Check off the Bucket List

by BRFC on 1/19/19Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - BoiseRating: 4 out of 5

The first time I heard Kris sing "Me and Bobby McGee" in the very early 70's I was hooked. To this day some of my favorite songs were written by this guy. I always like the song best when Kris himself sings those songs. He's been through a lot and it seems a miracle that he can come out on that stage and sing for a couple of hours. His voice is aged and weathered but with some of the songs the lyrics are more real. He's lived the life. We are so pleased we saw him sing.

  • Saddly missed it

by Jim on 1/18/19Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - BoiseRating: 5 out of 5

My mother died on Wed., Jan 16th. We were out of town with her and didn't get to use the tickets or have the opportunity to give them away. We wish we could have gone.

  • Kristofferson

by Appleonmydesk on 1/18/19Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - BoiseRating: 4 out of 5

Enjoyed every song from Kris, but he is in his eighties, and appears to be rather frail. I thought the venue was too large for him. His great sense of humor and his special flair with a down-and-out song, did not project to the mezzanine. It was a memorable evening. Just wish it had been in a smaller theater.
