About

Kris Kristofferson on Tour

When Kris Kristofferson hits the stage, it's clear why he's become a legend of outlaw country. He plays it like he feels it — as an unfancy, master singer-songwriter, sometimes with a band and sometimes without, strumming his acoustic guitar and delivering his game-changing songs with well-weathered style. His character-rich voice lets you know he's been around the block more than once, and the songs combine a poet's command of language with a country singer's knack for putting things together organically so they go down easy. Along the way, he slips in his one-of-a-kind perspective on things. He might be unpacking the wistful romanticism of "Me and Bobby McGee" or depicting the morning-after madness of "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down," but he always makes you see the world a bit differently.

Kris Kristofferson in Concert

After Kris Kristofferson first started making waves in Nashville in the late '60s, country music (and American music) was forever changed. Singer-songwriters had never written so frankly about sensuality, and country had never had its own Bob Dylan before. With Kristofferson came a glorious collision of poetry-laden lyrics and countercultural sensibilities with the attitude of rock 'n' roll and the template of classic country. Besides making waves with his own albums, he reached into our collective conscience through his songs' numerous covers, performed by artists like Janis Joplin ("Me and Bobby McGee") and Sammi Smith ("Help Me Make It Through the Night"). Before the '70s were over, his natural charisma and chiseled countenance had helped make him a movie star too, with films like Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and A Star Is Born. Later he became a member of legendary supergroup The Highwaymen, alongside Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. As the decades passed, Kristofferson has never backed away from his commitment to write and perform to the utmost of his abilities. He's a true-blue American legend.

  • Kris Kristoperson is awesome

by melda611 on 1/30/10North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

He kept me mesmerized. He is a country music ledgend. I would pay to see him again and he is so funny. Even though to me he is an icon in country music, he was down to earth. He was spontaneous and almost human.

  • Kris, pure and simple

by N2EIO on 1/30/10North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 4 out of 5

One man, one guitar, one mic. No band, no lasers, no glitz, no hawking T-shirts and CD's. Just Kris, up close and personal. Two hours of great music and nice interaction with the crowd. Back to basics: it was great!

  • by arma on 1/29/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Kris provided a wonderful evening of back to back songs chronicling his (and many of the crowds) story of life's journey through love gained and lost, drunken escape, love of children, laughter with friends, pain in relationships, and joy in Jesus. He's the quintisential poet whose words take you back to reflection on your own life journey. The evening was an absolute delight!

  • Kristofferson Rules!

by ScottsIrishGal on 1/29/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Kristofferson's performance has definitely changed with age, but the power of his songs remains the same. His selection of songs was broad enough to let older fans reminisce while impressing younger one's who were unaware he has penned so many Country classics. Kristofferson had an effortless rapport with the audience that made you feel as if he was playing for a group of old friends. As always, it was "what you see is what you get", and what we got was an evening with a true living legend. Awesome.

  • LISTENIN' WAS EASIER THAN ANYTHING I'LL EVER DO...

by PARTLYTRUTHPARTLYFICKSHUN on 1/29/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 4 out of 5

KRISTOFFERSON... GUITAR... HISTORIC VENUE... HIS MANY VERBAL OFFERINGS (SOME SUNG, SOME SPOKEN), INCLUDING STORIES SUCH AS HEARING CASH SING "WISHIN' LORD THAT I WAS STONED" FOR THE FIRST TIME AT THE TAPING OF THE "JOHNNY CASH TV SHOW", HANGING IN THE WINGS BECAUSE A COP WHO DID SECURITY AT THE GRAND OLE OPRY LIKED HIM AND LET HIM COME IN AND LISTEN... OBSCURE SONGS FROM THE VAST KK CATALOG... OVERALL, ANYTIME HE SHARES STORIES AND TUNES IS A TREAT, BUT THIS NEW ACOUSTIC TRIP IN SUPPORT OF HIS NEW 'BONES DISC IS EXTRA SPECIAL IN THAT HE DOESN'T CARE IF HE HITS THE NOTES OR FINISHES THE SONG... YOU'RE IN HIS LIVING ROOM AND HE WANTS YOU TO PUT YOUR FEET UP, SHUT UP AND ENJOY... THE KKMMX (KRIS KRISTOFFERSON 2010) TOUR HAS LEGS SIMPLY BECAUSE THE SACK FULL OF SONGS HE CARRIES ON HIS HAGGARD SHOULDERS UP TO THE MIC IS SO IMPRESSIVE, WHO IS TO NOT TO BE TOUCHED BY WHATEVER HE PULLS OUT... YOU GO KRIS... CASH IS STILL LISTENING!!!

  • Kris Kristofferson is STILL eye candy!!!!!!!!!!

by LadyFromLebanonTN on 1/29/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Kris is the most talented songwriter of my lifetime (and I am 65). He's really easy on the eyes and ears as well. Across the board, considering all the artists, this was my all time favorite show.

  • Kris is Timeless!!

    by Grace443 on 1/29/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Although we have seen Kris over the years and always enjoy him, we were looking forward to coming full circle since we first saw him and Rita 38 years ago. Of course, he's changed over the years in many ways, don't we all, but absent the band and vocal backgrounds, this was the most honest performance we've seen. It was hard for us to remember and realize that his man who stood and played his soul out, is 73 years old! The timing of the music was perfect with a mix of older and newer, the highlight was the spectacular closing when he shone in his humility for all the success he's had. This was the most satisfying concert we've seen in some time from this aging icon.

  • as good as it gets

If you enjoy songwriters delivering the stories they've written in their own voices then Kristofferson is a must-see show for you. Nearly two hours onstage at the Ryman (a great venue), he had the crowd with him through the entire show. Just a man and his guitar. Highly reccomended!

  • Kris Kristofferson freakin' rocked it out!!!

Just a musician with his guitar over his shoulder and harmonicas beside him to play the hits written by him and recorded by so many others. Clarity of vocals great and sound crew had an excellent mix going.

  • Kristofferson an American Icon!!

by Irishrain on 1/28/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Went to see Kris at the Rymman Auditorium. He brought the wonderment of how and why he wrote the songs he sang. Put a exclamation point to my life time of being a fan of his. A singer with a unique voice and so comfortable and natural on stage. The show made me feel like I was sitting around his apartment or garage while he played and talked. My top experience of a lifetime of concerts. Most of the concert, I had watery eyes If you have an opportunity to see this legend, beg, borrow or steal to get there!

  • american troubadour

    by olanr1 on 1/28/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

krisofferson at the ryman was intimate, fun, quirky, and genuinely moving. you forget how many songs he wrote until he starts singing. walking onstage with only a guitar, a harmonica and his voice, he won the crowd over easily. self-effacing humor, an easy grin, and an appreciation of where he was, kristofferson slid from one song to the next, reminding us of a struggling career begun in nashville and leading full circle to a packed house at the mother church of country music. he would break from songs to explain them or interject a story about them. stories which included his children, or johnny cash, or other compadres along his road. a few singer and songwriters have come back for a third act. this is one which was worth the wait.

  • Kristofferson was fabulous- magic!

by lilaruby on 1/28/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

One of best concerts I have ever attended. He was obviously touched & moved by playing in Ryman, and playing to very appreciative audiance who obviosly knew his works well & love him. WOW!

  • by NoSoHappy on 1/28/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 1 out of 5

Didn't care too much for the show. We left at intermission. He wasn't very entertaining, in fact he rarely talked to the audience. I guess my wife and I were expecting something completely different

  • by Anonymous on 1/28/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Kristofferson brought the house to its feet a number of times - especially after last song Why Me.

  • Great show by a legend

by Runawayimagination on 1/28/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Kris Kristofferson's Nashville show at the historic Ryman Auditorium was amazing. One man and his acoustic guitar kept the sold-out crowd spellbound. He seemed geniunely amazed at the turnout and enthusiasm of the crowd, which knew all the lyrics and shouted out songs, many of which he performed on request.

  • by Anonymous on 1/28/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Kris Kristofferson is a legend. As a songwriter, he is amazing. As a performer, he lived up to his status. I've loved him as long as I can remember and he did not disappoint.
