About

Kris Kristofferson on Tour

When Kris Kristofferson hits the stage, it's clear why he's become a legend of outlaw country. He plays it like he feels it — as an unfancy, master singer-songwriter, sometimes with a band and sometimes without, strumming his acoustic guitar and delivering his game-changing songs with well-weathered style. His character-rich voice lets you know he's been around the block more than once, and the songs combine a poet's command of language with a country singer's knack for putting things together organically so they go down easy. Along the way, he slips in his one-of-a-kind perspective on things. He might be unpacking the wistful romanticism of "Me and Bobby McGee" or depicting the morning-after madness of "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down," but he always makes you see the world a bit differently.

Kris Kristofferson in Concert

After Kris Kristofferson first started making waves in Nashville in the late '60s, country music (and American music) was forever changed. Singer-songwriters had never written so frankly about sensuality, and country had never had its own Bob Dylan before. With Kristofferson came a glorious collision of poetry-laden lyrics and countercultural sensibilities with the attitude of rock 'n' roll and the template of classic country. Besides making waves with his own albums, he reached into our collective conscience through his songs' numerous covers, performed by artists like Janis Joplin ("Me and Bobby McGee") and Sammi Smith ("Help Me Make It Through the Night"). Before the '70s were over, his natural charisma and chiseled countenance had helped make him a movie star too, with films like Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and A Star Is Born. Later he became a member of legendary supergroup The Highwaymen, alongside Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. As the decades passed, Kristofferson has never backed away from his commitment to write and perform to the utmost of his abilities. He's a true-blue American legend.

  • An evening with Kris Kristofferson

by hrochas on 1/30/10North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 4 out of 5

Growing up in the 60's, Kris has always been one of my favorite entertainers. It was great to see him and hear all his classics as well as some new songs. I have to admit, however, it was also somewhat sad. He apparently had a cold, which may account for some of it, but at 73 years old, the voice just isn't the same and he seemed to struggle to hit some of the notes.

  • Kris was unbelievable!!

by wickedisamazing on 1/30/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen many shows in my life, but none even comes close to scratching the surface of the wonderment that was Kris Kristofferson at the Ryman. Just him, his guitar and harmonica, and his amazing songs. The chemistry between him and the audience was amazing. It was truly an experience I will never forget.

  • Kris was wonderful

by BeaufortBoy on 1/30/10North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

Although he talked about how nervous he was singing in front of that large a crowd, listening to Kris sing his songs, old and new, while picking his Gibson and blowing on that harp felt as comfortable as if he were in my living room. I'd love to go back next week and do it all over again. He could easily do another couple of hours picking and grinning more of my favorites without having to repeat any of the ones he did last night. Not a bad seat in the house. If you were not there you missed a real treat.

  • Surpassed my expectations!

I have always loved Kristofferson, so bought two tickets to the Charleston event. My 33 year-old son offered to be my date. He was somewhat familiar with Kristofferson. By the time he studied up on Kris, he was so excited to go see him. He had not known how many of those songs, performed by others, were written by Kris. He loved the concert every bit as much as I did. He agreed with me that Kristofferson is truly a trans-generational artist. Perhaps the term "poet with a guitar" is more fitting. Wonderful event....wonderful venue!

  • Kristofferson's still great

by ReadProf on 1/30/10North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 4 out of 5

This was a thoroughly enjoyable, intimate evening with one of America's greatest and most prolific creators of country songs. It was, as his introducer said, like hearing the soundtrack to a large segment of my life -- a young, exciting time, full of love and adventure. Kristofferson looks wonderful and sounds great. I'm really glad he's still singing to audiences. I especially liked hearing songs that I've never heard before. They still have the brilliant lyrics that make him such an icon. I hope he keeps going for a long, long time!

  • Kristofferson was fantastic!

by AmericanClassic on 1/30/10North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

Kris stood with harmonica around his neck and played the guitar and sang for almost three hours! There was no one else on stage, just a 73 year old super song writer, actor, singer, and all around good guy. He related well to the crowd and we welcomed him with standing ovations and curtain calls for more! This was by far one of the best concerts presented in our area. We especially enjoyed "Bobby Magee" and "Sunday morning coming down". Time flew and all too quickly one of the very best signed autographs and said,"Dave, I'm coming out " and he was gone.

  • Kris Kristofferson--warm and personable

by Gwen44 on 1/30/10North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 4 out of 5

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed Kris Kristofferson's concert last night. He was genuine, humorous, self-deprecating and sang many, many songs. It was a simple presentation...Kris alone in spotlight, standing and singing for two hours with only a 15-minute break. It was refreshing to go to a concert without an opening act, and without overly dramatic staging and overdone special effects. Kristofferson is a songwriter first and singer second and he gave us a full evening of his songs. He was charming in his ability to laugh at himself and events in his life. He treated us to all our favorite songs and some we'd never heard. I left feeling very happy and very satisfied.

Great one man show. Would go again to see him. Really enjoyed the show.

  • by edistopete on 1/30/10North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 3 out of 5

I do like most of the songs particually the ones he wrote. I did not appreciate the comment about bush and chaney. He should leave his politics at home. While a major portion of the audience was over 50 that makes the majority very conservative. He should keep that in mind.

  • It was like Kris came back to visit old friends.

by bjesn0 on 1/30/10North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

The show was wonderful. It was like he came for a visit. Kris being alone on the stage made it so much more intimate. His voice seemed stronger and clearer than the "young" Kris that I fell in love with. It seemed to me that the audience totally embraced him being there. The drawback to the show was that it had to end. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

  • Kris Kristofferson is a gracious and humble man.

His words are from the heart and shows the genious that he is. The audience was spellbound and enjoyed every word of this amazing concert.

I have always thought Kris Kristofferson exuded sex appeal, and I found out he DOES!

  • WOW!!!

by Countrystar on 1/30/10North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

The lady sitting to the left of me at the show asked if Kris wrote any of the song he was singing? WOW!!! My reaction to her comment and to Kristofferson's performance last night.

  • Kris Rocks, still...

by USAFBrat on 1/30/10North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

Kris was so down-to-earth...funny, charming, and humble. He sang songs about life and he is an amazing story-teller. I loved every minute of the concert, even when he messed up! You gotta love a aguy who can laugh at himself.

  • Great one man show!

by Coolstool on 1/30/10North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 4 out of 5

For a one man show I thought the show was great. It was the first time I saw him live. I hope it will not be the last. Bring him back.

  • Kristofferson was great!

by Sandrade on 1/30/10North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

Watching Kris Kristofferson in concert was like having him in your living room playing for an intimate group. We heard our old favorites as wel as not so familiar songs and gerat, funy stories to go along with many. Kris was very humble. Only negative is that when I purchased tickets 6 months ago when they first went on sale (within the first 5 minutes) I was able to buy first row seats. Needless to say I and my friends were excited. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the Performing Arts Center, we discovered that the orchestra pit was filled with three rows in front of us. I assume these were WEZL radio station seats. The venue was not sold out so there was no need for overflow seating. There never seems to be a rhyme or reason to purchasing tickets through Tickemaster.

  • Awesome Gathering of Old Friends

by edistoisland on 1/30/10North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

Kris did what he does best - just being Kris. It was as if he was playing to a small intimate gathering of old friends. The informality was great and the fact that the entire show was Kris, no band and other frills, made it all the more special. He is a legend with amazing humility after his many successes. What a wonderful evening!

  • Kristofferson was fantastic!!

by Anonymous on 1/30/10North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

It was like meeting an old friend and catching up. He was humble yet funny. He talked of old friends and sang songs that are like old friends from one's past. We also were introduced to a few newer friends. All in all it was one of the best events I've ever been to. His music has a way of putting feeling in your soul, and it was even stronger when presented by KRIS himself. Once in a lifetime experience. Carrie

I wish he had been a little louder. My husband and I missed several things he said. His comedian affects he put in the songs periodically were GREAT. He is still in winner with us. We enjoyed the show and would go again. Thanks.
