Kris Kristofferson on Tour
When Kris Kristofferson hits the stage, it's clear why he's become a legend of outlaw country. He plays it like he feels it — as an unfancy, master singer-songwriter, sometimes with a band and sometimes without, strumming his acoustic guitar and delivering his game-changing songs with well-weathered style. His character-rich voice lets you know he's been around the block more than once, and the songs combine a poet's command of language with a country singer's knack for putting things together organically so they go down easy. Along the way, he slips in his one-of-a-kind perspective on things. He might be unpacking the wistful romanticism of "Me and Bobby McGee" or depicting the morning-after madness of "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down," but he always makes you see the world a bit differently.
Kris Kristofferson in Concert
After Kris Kristofferson first started making waves in Nashville in the late '60s, country music (and American music) was forever changed. Singer-songwriters had never written so frankly about sensuality, and country had never had its own Bob Dylan before. With Kristofferson came a glorious collision of poetry-laden lyrics and countercultural sensibilities with the attitude of rock 'n' roll and the template of classic country. Besides making waves with his own albums, he reached into our collective conscience through his songs' numerous covers, performed by artists like Janis Joplin ("Me and Bobby McGee") and Sammi Smith ("Help Me Make It Through the Night"). Before the '70s were over, his natural charisma and chiseled countenance had helped make him a movie star too, with films like Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and A Star Is Born. Later he became a member of legendary supergroup The Highwaymen, alongside Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. As the decades passed, Kristofferson has never backed away from his commitment to write and perform to the utmost of his abilities. He's a true-blue American legend.
The only one who might have had more fun than the audience was Kris himself.
I think Mr. Kristofferson enjoyed the show as much as the audience did, great performance.
Song coverage paired with audience interaction and song background was priceless. One man, alone on stage with a guitar and harmonica. Where else does one get that anymore. He was clearly touched by the audience reaction to him - in Nashville - and at the Ryman. WOW! It was perfect.
helluva concert, helluva concert!!!!! ^) best i've ever seen him and i've seen him manyatime
From the moment Kris came out onto the stage the entire audience was at his complete attention. He had no one open for him, we were blessed with two hours of his songs and he sang every song I wanted to hear. On stage was Kris, his guitar and harmonica! What a treat.
He's still got it! His folksy tunes stir peoples' souls. He related to the audience and they to him.
i am a 58 year man that has been going to shows since i was 14. this was one of the best i have ever seen. kris and his guitar......doesn,t get much better than that!
Was the best. Just him and his lyrics and guitar !
Incredible show. Always great when Kris comes to the Ryman.
Kris was totally himself and at ease in his skin at 73 - as he should be. He has never been a singer so that is not what you go to hear. Instead you listen carefully to all of the words that he has pulled out of himself and put into songs to let you know about being human, being lonely, being loved, being the little guy and being victorious once in a whilte. I have been in Nasvhille since 1961 and was here through his rise. To see the patina of his soul on stage at the Ryman was a glorious evening for me. Worth every penny I paid for the ticket and then some.
Drove 2 hours to see Kris at the Ryman and he was at his best! He did a great variety of his classic hits to his new releases and was "classic Kris" through and through! He is so humble and real which to me is amazing considering his endless talent. There was a full house and incredible spirit between Kris and audience. His sense of humor is sharp as ever. He played for 2 hours...truly a night to remember :-)
Loved everything about the evening. Totally worth the trip from New York!
did not cease to captivate one moment during the performance
Great, excellent, well worth it. Kris was very original with only he, his guitar, and harmonica on statge. He is extremely creative. He also has wonderful connection with the audiance. He comes across relaxed, down to earth, and like the guy next door. He also tells funny jokes from time to time. I think for a one person performed, playing with limited equipment that he is outstanding. He sort of reminds me of the way Bob Dylan was during the 1960s. Also, all of the proceeds of the concert went to the Music Hall of Fame. This is very charitable of Kris. All and all, I highly recommend his performance to anyone.
His talent really showed last night! The concert made me realize what an exceptional talented person he is. Kris is one of the few who truly express their appreciation for the audience. What a great show! Thank you!
Absolutely amazing that one man with an acoustic guitar and harmonica can be so riveting! Over two hours flew by in what seemed like minutes. Kristofferson's songs are the stars...spellbinding stories, compelling and universal. His voice and timing so real that he is irresistible. A man with a generous spirit.
Absolutely the best...Kris looked great... was warm, captivating and sensational...the nostalgiically familiar Ryman surroundings must have been a passage back in time & almost surreal for him. The auditorium staff we observed did an outstanding job throughout the evening assisting and controlling the audience as need be. It was our first concert at the Ryman & we hope there will be opportunities to return.
Once again Kris performed as the true poet that he is. Not one wasted line, visual imagery to perfection and the most humble performance I have ever seen.
It was a great show he was very at ease and interacted with the audience. Kris seemed to be enjoying himself. Loved The Ryman as well. It is like seeing a show in your living room. very intimate.
Great concert by a legend, very glad I attended, if he performs again I will attend his concert.
