KIMBRA IN CONCERT:

Aussie songstress Kimbra first rose to fame thanks to her collaboration on Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know", but lately it's her solo act that's earning attention. Her perfect mix of soulful pop, jazz, and dance music gets concertgoers tearing up the floor all night. Known for her eccentric stagewear, powerful vocal range, and expert use of looping effects, Kimbra never fails to wow with her infectious energy and phenomenal performances of originals such as "Settle Down" and "Plain Gold Ring".

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Kimbra got her start in music at the age of 12 when she learned to play guitar and sang in her school choir. Influenced by Michael Jackson, Imogen Heap, and Stevie Wonder, Kimbra began experimenting with different genres and eventually arrived at her soul-tinged dance-pop sound. After winning a video contest in 2008, she attracted attention from label exec Mark Richardson who saw her immense talent and signed her later that year. She released her debut single "Settle Down" two years later, which landed a Top 40 spot on the New Zealand charts and put her on the map as a hot artist on the rise. She collaborated with Gotye on his 2011 single "Somebody That I Used To Know" -- a worldwide smash hit that topped the charts in 26 countries,  earned the duo two Grammy Awards, and launched the pair to stardom overnight. Since then she's released her 2011 critically acclaimed full-length Vows and toured alongside Foster the People and the Kooks. On tour Kimbra sings tracks from her 2014 album The Golden Echo among older fan favorites and delivers one exciting performance after another.

Kimbra is an entertainer in every sense of the word. She brings incredible force to her performance, and her voice is extremely strong and accurate. Kimbra commands the audience's attention from start to finish, and has so much fun with it. One of the best shows I've ever seen!

    Amazing Live

by yeahlikecarlos on 10/22/12Webster Hall - New York

Kimbra is an amazing artist to see live. She sounds just as great as she does on the CD if not better. Def get tickets to see her if you are a die-hard fan (and even if you're not...she's great to watch!)

High energy, tight band, cool venue. Kimbra demands the crowds attention and puts on a great show! She is so talented. I love when I see a band and they're better LIVE than they are on the album.

    AMAZING

by Anonymous on 10/22/12Webster Hall - New York

I had seen Kimbra open for Gotye earlier this year, so I knew it would be a great show, but my every expectation was far surpassed. She gave such an incredible performance, and it was clear that the crowd loved her. I would pay for another one of her concerts in a heartbeat!

    Catch these rising stars

by Nobeldrums on 10/22/12Webster Hall - New York

First off Webster Hall is a great venue to see a show. I had been intrigued by what I heard from Kimbra but can hardly call myself a fan. My girl is a Kiwi so I pay extra attention to acts coming out of New Zealand. Besides the curiosity factor and the price point the main draw for me was The Step Kids. These guys are amazing. They went to school locally and I've seen them prior to being signed. They're local heroes. All in all great performances from both bands. The Step Kids are known for their projection light show (they've been doing long before being signed), musicianship, and vocal harmonies. These guys make your head bounce with a heavily funk and soul influenced sound. Kimbra assembled a very capable band and put on a tight, exhilarating performance. Being a drummer myself I tend to be critical of other drummers. The one from her band was amazing. Kimbra herself is no slouch. Very energetic and fun to watch as she is to hear. Her excitement to be playing her first headlining show in NYC (sold out to boot) was palpable. Smiles and head bobbing abound. Go out and see this package while you can still see them in small venues. Well worth it!

Kimbra, a fabulous performer, a great band

by Elysia99 on 10/22/12Webster Hall - New York

Kimbra was in excellent voice, and her band is tight and hugely talented. She plays to the entire crowd and is a fabulous presence of positive energy. Great playing all around, song selection a nice blend, including 'Withdrawal' (not on US album). She is a true talent to be reckoned with, hard working and obviously passionate about what she does. It's so refreshing to see a performer who doesn't pander. My only complaint? That the show wasn't 4 hours longer. Hee. Too bad the opening act was nothing more than snotty hipster Fairfield County white boy funk. Good players, but not doing anything I haven't seen before. Their songs lacked hooks and appeared to be nothing more than "guitar solo delivery systems". It didn't help that they walked through the crowd acting pretentious and twee as they passed out stickers.

    Kimbra is awesome!!

by Anonymous on 10/22/12Webster Hall - New York

Kimbra is such a cute and classy woman and you'd want to be her best friend after seeing her live. She rocks out and has loads of fun on stage, and gets you into the vibe as well. She holds her audience very well. She came back for an encore and 2 more songs. And she sings great live, just as good as her studio recordings. I absolutely loved this concert and would recommend anyone to go see her.

    Kimbra is dominating!!!

by AmberIsRomance on 10/22/12Webster Hall - New York

I absolutely love Kimbra. She shows so much energy and it's easy to tell that she really feels her music. The show was nothing less than awesome and I must say that The Stepkids were definitely amazing. I was blown away by the whole show, even though the crowd at times was louder than her. Since the crowd was louder than Kimbra at certain points, I totally didn't get the satisfaction I wanted from hearing her sing "Something In the Way You Are", but her performance was excellent. As I've said in the title of my post, Kimbra is dominating and I mean it.

    Alright...

by KitKat123456 on 10/9/12The Fonda Theatre - Hollywood

Considering that I was sitting on the back row of the balcony area, it would have been so much better if the drunk people standing behind me didn't spill their drink down my shirt. Overall, the show was entertaining, but not amazing.
