About

K FLAY IN CONCERT:

Rising female rapper K Flay is not your everyday hip hop hopeful. The self-taught producer and songstress is a tomboy and a Stanford alum -- two things you don't see every day often among the reigning pack of racy female MCs -- and her music is just as unique thanks to her effortless ability to move from singing to rapping and back again. She built a devoted regional following in the mid-'00s with a series of self-released mixtapes, and in 2014 she took her sound to the masses with her debut album Life As A Dog. At her live shows K Flay approaches catchy tracks like "Make Me Fade" and "The Cops" with the ease and confidence fans have come to love from her recordings, delivering a laid-back and entirely original hip hop concert experience that blends the best of rap, rock, and electronic music.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

K Flay, aka Kristine Meredith Flaherty, was born in the bucolic Chicago suburb of Wilmette, Illinois, where she was raised by a musical family. After high school she moved to California to attend Stanford University, and during her freshman year there she experienced two life-altering events. The first was receiving news that her father -- a music lover and skilled guitarist -- had passed away unexpectedly. The second was the creation of her first rap track "Blingity Blang Blang", a parody song that she made to amuse her friends. The gag led to the realization that she liked writing music, and by year's end she had written several more songs as a tribute to her father. She taught herself to produce tracks on the computer and began performing live, and in her junior year she made her debut as K Flay with the mixtape Suburban Rap Queen. She followed up in 2009 with the Mashed Potatoes mixtape, and in 2010 she dropped the K Flay EP. Two more solid EPs and extensive regional touring followed in the early '10s, and in 2014 she made her official studio debut with the album Life As A Dog. The record peaked at No. 2 on the Heatseekers chart and No. 14 on the Rap chart, receiving praise from critics and earning her a national fanbase. Following the record's release K Flay proved herself the real deal with a string of self-assured performances on tour, leaving little doubt in fans' minds that she's got big things on the horizon.

  • The energy. The visuals.

by Amazing show on 4/1/25The Belasco - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

    K. Flay brought it hard it hard in LA. The visuals were amazing. The energy was high and the bar was raised throughout the night. Great renditions of favorites and medleys were an ingenious way to fit even more songs into the set.

  • Fantastic!

Can’t believe it’s been almost 10 year since I saw kflay at a festival! Loved her then and this show was even better than I expected! Brought my best friend, who’s a little stuck in a previous century, and my daughter and her boyfriend! Everyone had a great time! Vienna Vienna was great live as well! Had just recently stumbled upon his music! Great show!

I've seen Kflay perform a few times but this has been my all time favorite. Sound was amazing and performances were the best I've seen so far.

This was my third time going to a K. Flay show. The first time I saw her, I was working at the venue on the floor, and it was awesome. I have to gone to every show she had in town since. The open Vienna Vienna had a great set too.

  • What a show!

by Rachel on 3/23/25Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I've been listening to K.Flay for years, and when I saw she was in town I just had to go. Not only was her opener (Vienna Vienna) powerful and emotional, but K.Flay was everything and more. Stunning visuals, true performance art with an improvised rap, and an impactful story of how she's overcome deafness - it was worth every penny. I hope to see her again the next time she comes to Boston!

  • Beyond Words...

by CMH on 3/21/25The Underground - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

This was my 3rd Kflay concert and I can say that every single show is better than the last. Her energy, honesty, and energetic, bat-like dancing is just irresistible and contagious! I really hope Vienna Vienna tours with her again because their energies were similar and I'm already ~obsessed~ with their work! It's worth every penny, and don't forget to wear black and your docs :)

    K. Flay is one of the most under rated performers in the world today, the energy she brings and inspires through the crowd is one of the most memorable concert experiences a person can possibly have. The venue was outstanding and the performance was nothing short of inspired. Highly recommend checking her out next time she's in your hometown, or, go wherever you have to to see this special lady.
