About

K FLAY IN CONCERT:

Rising female rapper K Flay is not your everyday hip hop hopeful. The self-taught producer and songstress is a tomboy and a Stanford alum -- two things you don't see every day often among the reigning pack of racy female MCs -- and her music is just as unique thanks to her effortless ability to move from singing to rapping and back again. She built a devoted regional following in the mid-'00s with a series of self-released mixtapes, and in 2014 she took her sound to the masses with her debut album Life As A Dog. At her live shows K Flay approaches catchy tracks like "Make Me Fade" and "The Cops" with the ease and confidence fans have come to love from her recordings, delivering a laid-back and entirely original hip hop concert experience that blends the best of rap, rock, and electronic music.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

K Flay, aka Kristine Meredith Flaherty, was born in the bucolic Chicago suburb of Wilmette, Illinois, where she was raised by a musical family. After high school she moved to California to attend Stanford University, and during her freshman year there she experienced two life-altering events. The first was receiving news that her father -- a music lover and skilled guitarist -- had passed away unexpectedly. The second was the creation of her first rap track "Blingity Blang Blang", a parody song that she made to amuse her friends. The gag led to the realization that she liked writing music, and by year's end she had written several more songs as a tribute to her father. She taught herself to produce tracks on the computer and began performing live, and in her junior year she made her debut as K Flay with the mixtape Suburban Rap Queen. She followed up in 2009 with the Mashed Potatoes mixtape, and in 2010 she dropped the K Flay EP. Two more solid EPs and extensive regional touring followed in the early '10s, and in 2014 she made her official studio debut with the album Life As A Dog. The record peaked at No. 2 on the Heatseekers chart and No. 14 on the Rap chart, receiving praise from critics and earning her a national fanbase. Following the record's release K Flay proved herself the real deal with a string of self-assured performances on tour, leaving little doubt in fans' minds that she's got big things on the horizon.

  • K. Flay Brings the Energy

    by whit893 on 1/22/18The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 4 out of 5

    K. Flay is exactly what you think she would be live. She's all over the place, dancing with no rhyme or reason. She's refreshingly herself and she has a ton of energy. She has a few songs where she raps really fast and she performed both perfectly. If you get a chance to see her I highly recommend it.

  • Kflay is for real!

by Danisafan on 1/20/18The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Great show! My daughter is a huge fan. We got the VIP which included photo, early entry, a short acoustic set, crowd free shopping, and a signed poster. Plus the poster in the way out - it is the Fillmore! Quite a bargain for $85! The performance was the reason we were there though and it was great! We were in the very front on the floor which made it incredible! What an amazing night! Kflay has great stage presence and seems super authentic! Can’t wait til the next time we can catch her show!

  • K Rocks!

I danced the entire show, along with everyone around me. She is so amazing. We were so lucky to see her at the Fillmore - she is going to blow up any day now and you will never get to see her in a smaller sized venue again. If you get the chance, you've got to check her out!!

K.Flay and Sir Sly show at The Fillmore was amazing... both artists performed really well and got the crowd energy up. The crowd and venue size and proportions were great, as it didn’t feel too packed and congested. And you have to love the appreciate the historical environment of The Fillmore with all of the amazing acts and shows over the years.

  • Yikes

by Luckyky on 10/26/17Xcel Energy Center - St PaulRating: 2 out of 5

K Flay opened for Imagine Dragons in St Paul, MN Oct 16. Took my teenage sons to this event. Here's the good about the review...she does have a good voice and the band is decent enough. Here's the bad... She walked on stage dressed like someone had lost her luggage. It looked like she had gone to the nearest dollar store and bought the first thing she grabbed. I was not expecting anything fancy, but she looked very sloppy, like she didn't care how she appeared. While her voice is good, I nor anyone else around me could understand her lyrics because they sounded all mumbled over 90% of the time. I love seeing up and coming talent opening for bigger bands, but no one wants to see a performer head banging to their own songs EVERY SONG. Lastly, K Flay has no stage presence. You don't have to have crazy lighting or special effects to put on a great show, but this is something that she has not mastered. No one wants to listen to mumbled music, watch you walk from one side of the stage to the other and stand on the corner speaker box and then watch you headband. No, no, and no. People politely clapped when her performance was over, but I think it was because they were glad she was done. Disappointing.

My friend and I were in front row at K.Flay. Great show. She stuck around afterwards to sign merchandise and take selfies with fans. Very cool artist.

I can't believe I got to see K. Flay before she goes on tour with Imagine Dragons! She's an excellent performer, and the venue was alive!

  • K Flay Was Awesome

This group continues to amaze me. The first time we heard them open for 3rd eye Blind they got my attention. The group is seamless in their performance. The songs are well crafted and it's a great time.

  • Amazing

by brainstain on 2/26/17The Masquerade - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I was expecting a great show and it was. I go to dozens of concerts every year, and I'm thinking this might be the concert of the year, in February. K.Flay is a musical genius, with great beats (supplemented with drums and guitar live) and utterly amazing lyrics. IMO, her fun, raucous hip hop songs are secondary to her heavy, powerful, bittersweet love songs which blow me away every time I hear them. She played a good mix of both types. At one point, she seemed to apologize for the heavy songs, but that's what I came to see. The sound was excellent, the band was excellent, and K was full of energy for the sold-out crowd. The only thing that would have made the show better would be if she had played even more songs. I hope she comes back to Atlanta in 2017 at least one more time, especially since she has a new album coming out in April to support.

  • K.Flay, everyday

    by Lajust1ce on 2/24/17The Masquerade - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

K.flay put on an extremely energetic performance. You can tell she truly loves what she does and it shows. She adores her fans as much as we adore her, even stays after to meet us all! Great voice, personality, and performance. I look forward to seeing her at her future shows!

  • K.Flay was Great!

by ArthurB on 2/24/17The Masquerade - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

K.Flay was great, the band was really into the music and the scene; they were very tight on stage. Venue was nice, standard type of club, no place to sit though that's not really why we go to shows. The only issue was the mixing board, the bass was way loud and her voice was lost in the noise sometimes so you could not hear her.

Loved it! K.Flay rocked it!!! She played a good range of old and new and sounded just as good live!

  • AMAZING

by RaquelDiamandis on 11/25/16The Foundry - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was amazing! The venue is so cute and small, so the concert felt very personal. The opening acts, Layne and Nightly, were great, and K.Flay was so good! IMO, her love music is even better than her recorded music

  • by Anonymous on 11/16/16The Hollow - AlbanyRating: 5 out of 5

Both K Flay and The Hollow were stellar!! K Flay put on a fantastic show and The Hollow's homie size gets you right up close with the artist. Beatifiu venue, fantastic artist. Get your ass there asap.

  • K Flay rocked the house!

by Petco on 3/24/14House of Blues San Diego - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

I think that K Flay will be famous soon and then I can say that I saw her with 50 other people at the HOB in San Diego. She has an unforgettable style, a mix between rap, hip hop and rock. Noone else does music like her! Great show!

  • K.Flay was amazing

by capra on 9/12/13The Record Bar - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

I've been hooked on K.Flay ever since I first heard her music in 2010. This time she had way more material and it was a much smaller venue (she was an opener the first time I saw her) and she put on a helluva show. Great stage presence, all her songs are fun, and she gets really into it. Plus she meets with fans after the show and has a really great personality. Just a nice person who loves what she does and does it extremely well. If you get the chance to see her in concert, don't pass it up.

  • K.Flay is AWESOME!

    by ConcertBurner1976 on 2/26/12Independent - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Catch this talent while you can still afford to see her for cheap and close up, because she is going to be a major star. Saw her at the Independent in San Fran and she was awesome and her sound and stage presence was amazing. She even signed my library card! All hail the suburban rap queen!
