K FLAY IN CONCERT:
Rising female rapper K Flay is not your everyday hip hop hopeful. The self-taught producer and songstress is a tomboy and a Stanford alum -- two things you don't see every day often among the reigning pack of racy female MCs -- and her music is just as unique thanks to her effortless ability to move from singing to rapping and back again. She built a devoted regional following in the mid-'00s with a series of self-released mixtapes, and in 2014 she took her sound to the masses with her debut album Life As A Dog. At her live shows K Flay approaches catchy tracks like "Make Me Fade" and "The Cops" with the ease and confidence fans have come to love from her recordings, delivering a laid-back and entirely original hip hop concert experience that blends the best of rap, rock, and electronic music.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
K Flay, aka Kristine Meredith Flaherty, was born in the bucolic Chicago suburb of Wilmette, Illinois, where she was raised by a musical family. After high school she moved to California to attend Stanford University, and during her freshman year there she experienced two life-altering events. The first was receiving news that her father -- a music lover and skilled guitarist -- had passed away unexpectedly. The second was the creation of her first rap track "Blingity Blang Blang", a parody song that she made to amuse her friends. The gag led to the realization that she liked writing music, and by year's end she had written several more songs as a tribute to her father. She taught herself to produce tracks on the computer and began performing live, and in her junior year she made her debut as K Flay with the mixtape Suburban Rap Queen. She followed up in 2009 with the Mashed Potatoes mixtape, and in 2010 she dropped the K Flay EP. Two more solid EPs and extensive regional touring followed in the early '10s, and in 2014 she made her official studio debut with the album Life As A Dog. The record peaked at No. 2 on the Heatseekers chart and No. 14 on the Rap chart, receiving praise from critics and earning her a national fanbase. Following the record's release K Flay proved herself the real deal with a string of self-assured performances on tour, leaving little doubt in fans' minds that she's got big things on the horizon.
Paradise Rock Club was a great venue! Easy access to bars and bathrooms. K Flay of course was AMAZING!!!!
I have seen K.Flay 6 times and she is always amazing. She has put a lot of time and effort into her production and it is always a great time. If you haven’t seen her live, I highly recommend you do!!
Irving Plaza is a small venue that sounds . There are a million artists out there, but K. Flay truly shines a notch above the rest. The energy she brings to a show is off the charts and she sounds amazing. Even got a Beatles cover on this tour. I highly recommend checking her out and seeing her live next time she's in your town.
K. Flay was very good and Danforth Music Hall is ALWAYS a great place to see an act. Staff at Danforth M. H. are always wonderful too.
LiveNation/TicketMaster should actually be ashamed of over packing the venue that way. The designated walkways are great, the workers were helpful, K.Flay's performance was incredible. But if there are going to be such strict designation for where people can stand. Only the amount of tickets for the people that fit in that area should sold. If not less. Could not dance, was shoulder to shoulder anywhere I stood and could hardly see the stage, if I had tried to stand in front, I would have been trapped in the crowd, the amount of people ruined the acoustics, not just because of their bodies but their conversations. I'm not the only one to share this sentiment and unfortunately will never return to a show at that venue. And likely not attend any other Live Nation owned venue.
K flay makes such amazing music and she put a great show to go with it. Her energy on stage is elite.
Pretty good venue. My only beef was that since there were no lights on the stairs and the venue was pitch black, I saw 5 people fall and I think the venue NEEDS to fix that before someone gets seriously injured. Other than that, k flay was awesome and I'm so glad I got to see her in concert!!
Spokane doesn’t get as many concerts as larger cities like Seattle, so this was my first concert. The headliner Frances was good, I liked a few of their songs and their voice was lovely. Kflay was great, I loved her energy and stage presence and the setlist was so good. The lighting and stage was cool, guys on the guitar and drums were good, and I loved her outfit. She played almost all of my favorites and the songs sounded like the records if not better live, she’s got a great voice. The wait time between the two was a little long with nowhere to sit, and I do wish it was on a weekend, but it was 10/10 regardless.
It was a fantastic show with an entertainer who had fun energy!
K Flay is amazing! Phenomenal live show, excellent/tight performance. I am fortunate enough to have seen K Flay in concert twice now (Seattle and Missoula) and it has been an absolute blast each time. I hope to have the opportunity to see K Flay again!
The theater was nice. I appreciate seeing artists in small venues. The concert was great! I have not received the VIP photos with the artist (K.Flay) that I paid for. But it was nice meeting her.
Awesome show, so happy to exist at the same time as KFlay. The Marquis is a fun smaller venue and the staff is a lot nicer and on top of it than other spots I feel like.
K.Flay put on an amazing, high-energy show and engaged with the crowd, playing all of her top hits. I would definitely see her again!
Absolutely amazing show, great vibes, great crowd, and even better music. K.Flay is a MASTER of the craft. There’s truly nothing like her shows. GO SEE HER whenever you get the chance, I know I will!!
K. Flay has so much amazing energy! I love her! Her band was outstanding!
First time for venue first time for artist. Both were great. Small venu so very personable. Great now that they have air conditioning. Drinks weren't outrageously priced like other venues. Sound was great. K flay is a great show artist. Very lively and dancing on stage. Band was killer.
K. Flay brings the best music & the best people together! I’ve seen her four times, and I would go to every single show if I could! It’s always the BEST time!
Amazing mix of sopoken word narrative with supporting tracks from across her career. Just beautiful and fun.
Went in as a casual listener and left a fan! K. Flay is an artist, a true performer, a poet, and a rockstar. She leaves it all out on the stage and gives her fans everything she has night after night. Amazing experience and one of my fave concerts I’ve ever been to!
i was expecting a good show but k flay put o great show. her energy was so high even with it being close to the end of the tour. her music is so relatable and her new album is so good.
