Kentucky Wildcats Football History
The University of Kentucky first fielded a football team in 1881, and has consistently competed since the 1891 season. Legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant led the Wildcats from 1946 to 1953 and steered Kentucky to a dream season in 1950, where they went 11-1, won the SEC title and defeated the unbeaten Oklahoma Sooners in the Sugar Bowl. The Wildcats also won a share of the 1976 SEC title under coach Fran Curci, and finished 10-1 the next season. Head coach Hal Mumme brought his electric "Air Raid" offense to Kentucky in the late ’90s and early ’00s, which helped quarterback Tim Couch be selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1999 NFL Draft. In 2019, head coach Mark Stoops ensured Kentucky was a force to be reckoned with, installing a hard-hitting defense that produced one of the top prospects for the 2019 NFL Draft in linebacker Josh Allen. Stoops also helped the Wildcats notch two of the team’s four all-time 10-win seasons.
Over the years, Kentucky has had many legendary players, including Pro Football Hall of Famer George Blanda, who played under Bear Bryant, center Dermontti Dawson, wide receiver Randall Cobb and Jared Lorenzen. During the Mark Stoops era, many top players have led the way, including Josh Allen and running back Benny Snell Jr. They both led the Wildcats to a 27-24 victory in the 2019 Citrus Bowl over No. 13 Penn State en route to a No. 12 ranking in the AP poll at the end of the 2018 season.
The Kentucky Wildcats have heated rivalries against SEC East teams Tennessee and Vanderbilt, cross-division foes Mississippi State and and in-state competitors Louisville, who they face annually in the Governor's Cup.

The best game I have ever witnessed at Kroger Field! What an atmosphere!!
Purchasing the tickets for the game through the Ticketmaster mobile app was so easy. Getting in the game with the digital tickets on my phone worked perfectly. The only downer was trying to list one of my tickets for resale that I ended up not needing through Ticketmaster. It didn’t work properly, nor did Customer Support get back to me, with four days to go before the event.
Kroger field was electric Saturday. I wish I could go again this week!!!
Not only was it my first time going to a Kentucky game it was the best game ever.
The atmosphere was electric and it was a great place to be. The seats were a good value and great view
Great food from the LaRosa’s. Best game of the year so far.
Imagine 61,000 Blue Blooded Maniacs screaming so loudly that your opponent made so many mistakes it cost them the game. Thats what itbwas like inside of Commonwealth (I wont call it Kroger field) saturday night. I have never experienced an atmosphere like that in my entire life. The sea of tailgaters, people literally grilling whole Alligators, the mad rush of BBN to participate in the Cat Walk it was all so magical and worth every penny spent to be a part of it all. The facilities were excellent, the staff was beyond accomodating and the entire experience was flawless.
Unbelievable atmosphere! Kentucky puts on a truly awesome event.
That game was the best ecent i had ever been too! Im so glad i was able to wittness that win over flordia💪🏾💪🏾BBN we the best😍
The tickmaster app would not work...had to go to customer service to retrieve tickets.
Huge win for the team and BBN showed up in full force! We were truly the 12th man Saturday night. Congrats and much love to the team and coaches for delivering that big W
We had a blast at the UK football game! It was even better because they won, but even before that, the atmosphere was amazing! They gave us all poms on the way in, everyone participated in the crowd cheers, and the energy was contagious! On top of that, the band and cheerleaders were fun to watch, and the DANCE TEAM was AMAZING!! It was my first UK football game, and after this experience, it will definitely not be my last!
Buying the tickets first was easy. Then the communication ticket master has with you up till event was great. Mobile tickets were so easy to use. Can't wait for next event 😊
Despite my apprehension the whole process from purchase to gate entry was smooth and easy!
Awesome atmosphere to watch a UK Football victory.
I was in line at the game going to get my tickets. And it had signed me out and wouldn’t let me sign back in. So take screenshots before you get to the game.
Great game, friends, Airbnb, and good tickets! We try to get to the games when we can as we live in Western Kentucky.
Went to the season open between Ky and ULM, had a blast!!
Great seats and great view. And just the right price for it all. Will do it again.
