Kentucky Wildcats Football History
The University of Kentucky first fielded a football team in 1881, and has consistently competed since the 1891 season. Legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant led the Wildcats from 1946 to 1953 and steered Kentucky to a dream season in 1950, where they went 11-1, won the SEC title and defeated the unbeaten Oklahoma Sooners in the Sugar Bowl. The Wildcats also won a share of the 1976 SEC title under coach Fran Curci, and finished 10-1 the next season. Head coach Hal Mumme brought his electric "Air Raid" offense to Kentucky in the late ’90s and early ’00s, which helped quarterback Tim Couch be selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1999 NFL Draft. In 2019, head coach Mark Stoops ensured Kentucky was a force to be reckoned with, installing a hard-hitting defense that produced one of the top prospects for the 2019 NFL Draft in linebacker Josh Allen. Stoops also helped the Wildcats notch two of the team’s four all-time 10-win seasons.
Over the years, Kentucky has had many legendary players, including Pro Football Hall of Famer George Blanda, who played under Bear Bryant, center Dermontti Dawson, wide receiver Randall Cobb and Jared Lorenzen. During the Mark Stoops era, many top players have led the way, including Josh Allen and running back Benny Snell Jr. They both led the Wildcats to a 27-24 victory in the 2019 Citrus Bowl over No. 13 Penn State en route to a No. 12 ranking in the AP poll at the end of the 2018 season.
The Kentucky Wildcats have heated rivalries against SEC East teams Tennessee and Vanderbilt, cross-division foes Mississippi State and and in-state competitors Louisville, who they face annually in the Governor's Cup.

The Kentucky Wildcats Football vs Western Kentucky University Hilltopper Football game was amazing. We took our son to the game as part of his 13th birthday gift. We had a great time, great weather and a great game. We truly can't wait to go to another game. The seats were good seats, the crowd was pleasant, the restrooms were clean and the food was average priced for event venues. We are truly satisfied with our experience!!
I had decent seats, the weather was awesome - all-in-all I would say it was a fabulous evening. GO CATS!!!
Event was great. Seats were really good. And, the overall value for the event was wonderful.
Anytime I can go to a UK game, I have a blast. The fun is on from early in the morning because Cats fans know how to throw a tailgate party and watching UK play is always a good time in my book! The win was good but it was also cool to be able to see another in-state school compete. I can add "Go, Toppers" without hesitation!!
Seats were good - game was great. Tailgating at Commonwealth Stadium is loads of fun. Lots of fans and food. Easy way to purchase tickets and print on-line
Great game. Visiting Kentucky is always a nice getaway. This year was especially nice, because the UT vs. KY football game went into overtime and Tennessee won!!! Best wishes to the Kentucky team when they go bowling this year. I support them every other game of the year, except when they play my TENNESSEE VOLS!!!
Do not take children to a UK football game. The people in the stands act horribly. They swear and do not have good sportsmanship. The "fans" definitely made this an R-rated experience. Other than that, the facilities are excellent. The stadium is clean, the game is enjoyable, and the concessions are reasonably priced.
Lots of rivalry.. Overtimes... Hostile crowd... Go Vols
Great game except the outcome. KY played great for the first 3 quarters and fell apart in the 4th.
Our seats were in the KY student section (which I don't recommend if you're taking your children w/ you.....foul language flying around), three rows down from the top of the stadium but, GO VOLS.......25 STRAIGHT WINS OVER THE KITTIE CATS OF KENTUCKY!! Sorry KY, maybe you'll have better luck w/ your basketball team!! HAHAHAHA LOL
My 3 children and I had a wonderful time as always at UK football games
Commonwealth stadium is large, clean, & safe. The traffic control to and from the stadium was fantastic. The Kentucky Wilcats game was great. I'll be coming back next year.
I took my nephew who just turned 13 to this game. It was the first one for him and the first one for me in many years. We gave the game away to Tennessee. It was great being there and being a part of UK WIldcat fans...but, we should have won that game. That was the only disappointment.
Kentucky dominated the entire game but it was a good state rivelry to watch.
seating was great and service was amazing. you did a grest job will use again
Even though University of Kentucky lost, it was a great game. It was fun showing my husband around our beautiful campus and telling him of traditions and experiences on campus.
Game went well seats were good & overall atmosphere was good. A good place to watch College Football. Win or Lose UK fans still comes out & supports their team.
The seats were great right in 200 which was by the endzone to be able to see all the redzone plays. Pretty good amount of room per seat also
