Kentucky Wildcats Football History
The University of Kentucky first fielded a football team in 1881, and has consistently competed since the 1891 season. Legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant led the Wildcats from 1946 to 1953 and steered Kentucky to a dream season in 1950, where they went 11-1, won the SEC title and defeated the unbeaten Oklahoma Sooners in the Sugar Bowl. The Wildcats also won a share of the 1976 SEC title under coach Fran Curci, and finished 10-1 the next season. Head coach Hal Mumme brought his electric "Air Raid" offense to Kentucky in the late ’90s and early ’00s, which helped quarterback Tim Couch be selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1999 NFL Draft. In 2019, head coach Mark Stoops ensured Kentucky was a force to be reckoned with, installing a hard-hitting defense that produced one of the top prospects for the 2019 NFL Draft in linebacker Josh Allen. Stoops also helped the Wildcats notch two of the team’s four all-time 10-win seasons.
Over the years, Kentucky has had many legendary players, including Pro Football Hall of Famer George Blanda, who played under Bear Bryant, center Dermontti Dawson, wide receiver Randall Cobb and Jared Lorenzen. During the Mark Stoops era, many top players have led the way, including Josh Allen and running back Benny Snell Jr. They both led the Wildcats to a 27-24 victory in the 2019 Citrus Bowl over No. 13 Penn State en route to a No. 12 ranking in the AP poll at the end of the 2018 season.
The Kentucky Wildcats have heated rivalries against SEC East teams Tennessee and Vanderbilt, cross-division foes Mississippi State and and in-state competitors Louisville, who they face annually in the Governor's Cup.

Went to a football game and i used the app, i had to go to the help desk to get the wifi but it worked out well.
Let me tell you, I have never been so disappointed in a sporting event to bring my infant child. My husband and I attended family day to support my sister who attends the university and we brought along our 5 month old infant. For starters, the stadium is not conducive for moms who have to bring diaper bags. This contains baby basics (diapers, wipes, formula, bottles, burp clothes, pacifiers, blanket) and though I figured I couldn’t bring a big bag in, I moved all my items I to a crammed clear see thru drawstring bag, that my sister who attends UK was actually given to take to the games! When we arrived we were told our bag wasn’t conducive for the stadium and had to get out of line to the gift shop and buy new clear plastic hand bags. It was very inconvenient for the mom who was carrying her infant everywhere. Then when we arrived again to the security line, we were told we had to buy a ticket for my infant child that was strapped to my chest. It was absolutely ridiculous! If we weren’t there to support my sister we probably would have left. I have been to actual professional stadiums with my child and have never had to abandon my diaper bag OR pay for a ticket. It ruined the whole experience. Maybe it’s my fault for trying to include my child. Either way, do not bring your children to a UK game, it will just infuriate you.
I hadn’t been to a college game in over 5 years. I have to say I was disappointed in the choreographed show. I was there for football - I’m sure every major football program does the same The new scoreboard with so many lights stats etc made it difficult to actually see the downs. You don’t need All the ancillary parts of the game except the band and cheerleaders. The stadium looked awesome and the tailgating has grown since I was last there.
We loved everything about the game. The only frustration is parking. We are brand new and really couldn't find any helpful information on parking without a parking pass.
Not a bad seat in the house. Perfect weather. Loved every minute except for the Cats lost.
Our son is a sophomore at UK and this was our first experience of a UK home game. What a great time! The stadium was electric and they kept the crowd involved the whole night.
Thanks for the hospitality! We were the visiting team, but we were pleased with the hospitality of the folks.
Ky fans were too cocky, we shut that down with a great W in the Commonwealth
great game overall. seats were awesome! fans were friendly.
There are no bad seats in the house. The air is always electric. There is no place like the Big Blue Nation!
My granddaughter is a graduate student for University of Kentucky but due to the Covid Epidemic, she had not got to experience the passion of Kentucky Fans. I decided she needed to go to a football ball game and it was a great experience. I thought that Ticket Master was very helpful but there were a few things that we had to figure out. We didn’t understand about the parking since I did not purchase a parking pass but luckily my husband had a handicap sticker and we were the last 5 cars that got through. We got there at 4:30 so we are taking 3 hours early. If we had not decided that, no telling where we would have parked so I feel there needs to be more handicap parking and golf carts to help people that can’t walk well. It also told us what gates that were open and said go through the gate on your ticket but we did not have a gate. As it turned out, it was no big deal since you can walk through anywhere. The people were helpful as well as the fans. We were way up top in section 228 but any seat is good to see the game and the fans are amazing. So, that is good to know when purchasing tickets. I did appreciate all the emails and text to let us know what to expect and how to proceed. Thanks.
Excellent program that delivers excitement and appreciation to their fans.
Had a great time and the tickets worked perfect another great experience from ticketmaster.
The app was extremely easy to navigate and easy to save my tickets to my Apple wallet. Lots of reminders and updates up to the event.
Great college football environment, helpful staff, reasonable concessions lines. They do need to do a better job directing people how to get out around the player exit.
Kentucky kicked ass absolutely loved it can’t wait go back
This was our first UK game and it was awesome! My hubby and kids already want to go back! Best atmosphere and just a great time the whole night! Go UK!
By far the best game I’ve ever been to at Commonwealth Stadium and the crowd was over the top awesome.
From tailgating to the final second ticked away was an amazing experience. Best game I’ve ever been too.
