KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD IN CONCERT:

Guitar god Kenny Wayne Shepherd is one of the fiercest young axmen of his generation, and he continues to blow audiences away every time he takes the stage. The self-taught virtuoso is a sight to behold in concert, where his furious fingers and flailing blonde locks serve as the perfect counterpoint to the precision and ease of his razor-sharp riffs. Whether he's playing bluesy originals from 2014's Goin' Home or covering legends like Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix, Shepherd always treats fans to electrifying performances that are as heavy on pure gusto as they are on musical chops.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Shreveport, Louisiana-born Kenny Wayne Shepherd got his first guitar in early childhood and began learning the instrument with a unique self-taught method. He was quickly recognized as a guitar prodigy, and at age 13 he was invited to play on stage with blues icon Bryan Lee. His first performance at the Red River Revel Arts Festival in Shreveport attracted the eye of label execs, and before long Shepherd had signed a multiple record deal with Giant Records. His 1995 debut album Leadbetter Heights topped the blues chart, a feat he repeated with five subsequent albums including his 1997 sophomore album Trouble Is... -- the longest-running album on the Billboard Blues Chart in history.  In 2014 Shepherd released his seventh studio album Goin' Home, another chart-topper that has fans eagerly awaiting his next must-see series of tour dates.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"I have seen Kenny Wayne numerous times and this was his best show yet. See him if you can!"

"Awesome show!!! Would definitely pay to see them again! He punished that guitar!"

"Kenny Wayne Shepherd and his band rocked the blues. What great musicians. His closing act of Jimmy Hendrix's 'Voodoo Child' was awesome."

Kenny Wayne Shepherd and his band gave a fantastic performance. Played all the songs I wanted to hear and played them impressively. The Aztec Theatre was a perfect venue. Will go to any concert they play in San Antonio now and forever.

  • Music good,very warm venue.

Venable was amazing, KWS was awesome! Up in the balcony area it was too warm.Had to go down to lobby several times to get cool air. Tempers were flairing up in the balcony area I think because of the heat. Heard alot of complaining up there. The bar ran out of supplies too early. Some Shiner beer, naps, and stirrers were out before the concert ended. Throughout all the chaos, the staff was helpful and friendly. Too many people were milling about blocking the view during the show, probably due to the heat upstairs.

The Kenny Wayne Shepherd show was great. The sound of KWS band was very good. The volume was perfect. The band put together a great set list that covered their career. This night was great musicians perform a great professional show. I had great seats that were located four rows from the stage. This was a great night of music.

Kenny Wayne and his band, put on a phenomenal show. I will go see them again if they ever come back to the area. The Ally Venable band played a great set for the opener. Would love to see them again! House of Blues hosted the show perfectly. We enjoyed the Balcony seats.

  • Excellent show, one of the best I've ever seen

    by Mike B on 7/25/23Rating: 5 out of 5

Wow what a fantastic show, I had a great time. The Ally Venable band opened and she was fantastic. KWS played a great set of a mix of his music over the years, and finished with an amazing encore. This was easily one of my top 5 concerts of all time. The best part, is everyone looked like they were having a blast and not just going through the motions. Next time he's in town I'll be there.

  • Phenomenal

by Greg on 7/25/23Rating: 5 out of 5

The entire show was full of energy and talent. Ally Venable was great as an opening act. Never heard of her before the concert but she is very talented! I can see why KWS had her as an opening act. Then Kenny and his band came out and it was full on entertainment for almost two hours. Kenny is very engaging as a performer as was Noah. The rest of the band was great too. Awesome evening. Going again as soon as they return to my area.

  • Fantastic show

by Lala on 7/25/23Rating: 5 out of 5

Kenny wayne and Noah headed down memory lane with a bit of Ledbetter Heights ... nothing like Deja Voodoo and Blue on Black. Loved his tunes from the Traveler too, from the cover of Mr Soul as the opener to Joel Walsh's Turn to Stone as the closer ... and of course Voodoo Chile. Having the infinitely talented Ms Ally Venable and her Band as opening act was Fabulous! Looking forward to seeing her more on the road. Saw her for the first time in 2018, opening up for the Devon Allman Project with Duane Betts. She knocked it out of the park then, at 19 yrs old. She's a baby but a hot mama, and she'll be around for many years to come, so definitely if you have the opportunity, check her out! Kenny always pleases the crowd. Can't believe he's been around for 30 years already, but it's true. He started when he was a baby too (16). I saw him first at a tiny club called the Satellite Lounge in Houston TX in 1993. He blew everyone away with his high energy and played like he'd been doing so for ages. When he started doing covers of Led Zeppelin our jaws dropped. Sounded like Jimmy Page in the house! Unbelievable. I believe he was closing out his shows even then with Voodoo Chile, there was nothing better. To honor Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan by playing their signature tune was a nod to his obvious mentors. So yeah, the shows were amazing that night in the House of Blues in Houston. Nothing better than the blues.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd puts on an awesome show. His abilities as a guitar player are truly impressive. Aztec Theater is a nice venue where every seat appears to have an excellent view of the performer

  • One of the Best Ever

    by Doctor G on 7/25/23Rating: 5 out of 5

KWS is in the very top echelon of guitar players today. In fact, he’s one of the best guitarists ever! His concerts are so full of energy and so entertaining. He has surrounded himself with the best band around. That includes Noah Hunt, great blues vocalist and of course Chris Whipper Layton keeping the beat on the drums. The setting in the Aztec Theater was perfect, with its medium sized seating and great acoustics. Overall, this was a an awesome concert. Consistently, KWS puts on unbeatable concerts. Go see them today!

That concert was simply incredible! I have seen him twice before , but sitting on the 4th row floor took my experience to totally different level. Best guitarist there is in my opinion. Going to go See Joe B in October , and I know that dude rocks too!

  • KWS Concert 7/20/23

    by Brian & Stacy C on 7/23/23Rating: 4 out of 5

The facility at Saenger theater was a great venue with a very helpful and hospitable staff. The wife and I were able to park within a short walking distance, and the short wait to enter the theatre was well worth it. Concession lines were short and orders were handled very quickly. KWS is true artist at his craft and I have never seen a better guitar player. His music and band were superb and it was a great concert. There was a couple with seats two rows down in front of us. Unfortunately the woman had gloves with multi colored flashing neon lights on her hands. She waved her hands and the flashing lights the entire concert. This was one of the most annoying and inconsiderate practices I've ever seen at a concert. The gentlemen sitting beside us even asked her politely to please turn off the flashing lights to no avail. So even though I watched the concert through a lens of multi colored flashing neon lights the KWS band put on a great show. I'm absolutely still a fan and wouldn't hesitate to purchase tickets to a future performance. Thank you to the Saenger Theatre staff for putting on a memorable event. Thank you KWS Band, I love your music, and what a great performance!

  • One of the best concerts ever.

KWS and band shredded it. From original songs to covers of SRC and Hendrix, they had the theater rocking all night. To add to that, the opening act, Ally Venable, jammed down too.
