Fantastic show
by Lala on 7/25/23Rating: 5 out of 5Kenny wayne and Noah headed down memory lane with a bit of Ledbetter Heights ... nothing like Deja Voodoo and Blue on Black.
Loved his tunes from the Traveler too, from the cover of Mr Soul as the opener to Joel Walsh's Turn to Stone as the closer ... and of course Voodoo Chile.
Having the infinitely talented Ms Ally Venable and her Band as opening act was Fabulous! Looking forward to seeing her more on the road. Saw her for the first time in 2018, opening up for the Devon Allman Project with Duane Betts. She knocked it out of the park then, at 19 yrs old. She's a baby but a hot mama, and she'll be around for many years to come, so definitely if you have the opportunity, check her out!
Kenny always pleases the crowd. Can't believe he's been around for 30 years already, but it's true. He started when he was a baby too (16). I saw him first at a tiny club called the Satellite Lounge in Houston TX in 1993. He blew everyone away with his high energy and played like he'd been doing so for ages. When he started doing covers of Led Zeppelin our jaws dropped. Sounded like Jimmy Page in the house! Unbelievable. I believe he was closing out his shows even then with Voodoo Chile, there was nothing better. To honor Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan by playing their signature tune was a nod to his obvious mentors.
So yeah, the shows were amazing that night in the House of Blues in Houston. Nothing better than the blues.
