Keiko Matsui continues to rise to a trancendent level in her art, and as a human being. Her audience senses they're experiencing something they'll cherish for the rest of their lives and her new album has already rocked the top of the Billboard charts. A magnificently planned and executed evening of heart-opening, brilliantly-composed music by some of the most talented, upbeat and animated musicians on the circuit. This show was "elite" and "exceptional" in every possible way and left me spilling over with gratitude. Bless you, Keiko Matsui, for your gift of peace, love and joy-evoking music to a world desperately in need of it.
The most awesome performance over the last 12 months. Keiko captivated the audience the entire concert. She and the band were magnificent. I'm So glad my friends and I attended.
Her show was amazing! It's a small, intimate venue. She's a great performer with a good band.
The music was diverse and fun. I found Keiko very entertaining and what a nice surprise when Paul Taylor joined the show for a few songs. The venue was perfect for this type of event.
As good as ever and the new band is definitely a new sounds but still awesome go see them ... you will have the time of your life!
I was blessed to be at BB Kings on sunday 4/17 for a very awesome performance by Keiko Matsui and her new band. She has embarked on a new project that is all acoustic. Stand up bass acoustic guitar and drums, thats it. The sound that came from these 4 musicians was incredible a true pure form of jazz that I can't get enough of. I have been listening to her for 25 years now and she just keeps getting better!
Everything I had hoped it would be and more. This was my first opportunity to see Keiko, although I have been a big fan for many years, It was also my first visit to the B.B. King Blues Club, and we received truly first-class treatment. Upon entering the club, we were warmly greeted and immediately upgraded to a perfectly situated booth. Our waitress was amazing. We were served our drinks, an appetizer, and our dinner with surprising promptness and genuine cheerfulness. The club manager came over and offered special attention to our needs, even getting Keiko's event-person, Derek, to help out, as I brought a beautiful floral bouquet to give to her at the end of the show. Keiko was truly amazing and was accompanied by a new all acoustic ensemble - an upright bass, guitar, and percussion. The music was a finely-chosen compilation of tunes from her latest "Soul Quest" and "Live from Tokyo" albums all the was back to her original debut album "A Drop of Water". The entire evening was so warm and intimate; an evening I will never forget.
The quality of the performance was way above my expectation. I am willing to pay triple if I can see her and her band.
I have been seeing Ms. Matsui in concerts for about 10 years and always left the show wishing there were more. That steak came to an end this Sunday. Regrettably, Ms. Matsui changed the essence of her band. Visibly and audibly, gone is the woodwind instrument that along with her piano, made this artists's CDs and shows truly special. I pray that she reconsider's this "new project" which did not work for me.
Keiko, did not disappoint she and her new "family" was very entertaining . Her sets were from 1989-2015
Brunch was nicely spaced out with time for eating and conversing prior to the show. Although she played much that was familiar, it sounded fresh with new band mates. I got to tell her it was "like old recipes with new spices". Looking forward to the CD coming out with this crew. Great show!
Keiko and her new, very talented backup band were the perfect ending to a great Berks Jazz Fest! She played at the Sunday Brunch, and her music and talent were the perfect compliment!
Keiko and her band are great performers. Unfortunately the sound engineer ruined the show. All you could hear is the drum. The drummer did not know, I'm not blaming him. The audio equipment for the piano was terrible, muddy, no volume. The audio for the drum was very sharp, overpowering. Unfortunately Keiko played to accompany the drum. Please find out who was responsible for this and don't let that person ruin another concert.
She was great, as was her backup. Especially the guitar.
The music of Keiko Matsui is timeless and it showed in her performance at Berk's Jazz Festival. Every song had me in a groove and I love her presentation of the music. She may be soft spoken but her music speaks volumes!! My only drawback, if you can call it one is that the performance was too short. Greedy perhaps but when it's good you always want more.
Keiko is an amazing jazz artist that has transcended generations of fans. Her music as well as her fantastic band were just as entertaining as they were engaging. They set the perfect mode with their incredible sound individually as well as collectively.
I purchased these tickets for my husband for Valentine's Day and ordered an extra set for good friends... This was our first time seeing Keiko live and we must say that we really enjoyed the venue & the experience! Great Job and we'll see you next year! God Bless!
I have seen Keiko Matsui many times and this is the first time for the acoustic band. This is a must see show. She takes her hit songs and gives them new life with her new family. Every song played had a different feel and ejected different emotions from the original recordings. I can't wait for the new album with her new family. It will be an automatic buy when it comes out.
I've loved Keiko Matsui's music for a long time but had never had the opportunity to see her live until last October on a jazz cruise! I was so taken aback by her performance that, at a meet and greet, I asked if she was going to be in the Washington, DC area anytime soon. She said yes, at The Birchmere! Well, I bought myself some tickets to the show and she was fantastic again! I love how she gives you a brief history of each song. I wish more artists did things like that. And, I'd only been to The Birchmere one other time a long time ago but thoroughly enjoyed myself there. The food, drinks and service were top notch!
