Absolutely amazing show. Not a bad song in the set. She is a mesmerizing pianist and her backing band is extremely tight.
I knew nothing about her when I went to see and hear Keiko Matsui at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia, a very pleasant, low-key, comfortable venue. I was blown away by her grace and style, the coordination of her band, and her sincere passion for music and its power to bring to the surface all that we share as people, regardless of origin or culture. Her form of "jazz" to me is much more peppy than the jazz I'm used to, and her style and eneregy are riveting. There were great periods of percussion, lovely riffs, powerful quiet notes as punctuation, and funny anecdotes. Two hours passed like minutes. No matter what she played, she was gracious and vivacious. Her band members are accomplished and coordinate flawlessly. She apparently has 20 CDs! I'll have to check those out, too. Don't miss the chance to her her perform live. She's magical, a dazzling, benevolent musical sorceress.
Take an absolutley amazing artist, surround her with other masterful musicians and place her in the perfect venue and your have the perfect formula for captivating music !!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Birchmere is a wonderfully unique place to experience great artists and great music. The staff are the best, food and drink is great, accoustics fabulous...but most of all, you feel like you are experiencing the intimate performance designed just for you. It's as if the artists, too, feel and perform special...because they have the opportunity to really interact with their audience in a personal setting. Keiko certainly did...I feel like I witnessed a truly special evening and performance.
Big fan of Keiko. Gave a great performance. Job well done with last CD. Wish her and the band the best of luck.
Keiko's band was excellent. Her style and personification is awesome.
Too uptempo to be called New Age, more structured than jazz, harmonic, complex and beautifully composed. This was a remarkable performance by a remarkably talented musical ensemble lead by the gifted Keiko Matsui.
Keiko is one of my all time favorites, she has almost every song I love and she has such a great personality, together they make for an unforgetable experience and magnificant concert..
Keiko put on an excellent show as usual. Her hands flow over the keyboard so fluently, yet beautifully you become enthralled with her playing. It was truly enjoyable.
I have seen Keiko Matsui play in many venues but The Birchmere is always my favorite.
Keiko Matsui was a breathe of fresh air... delightful and invigorating in every way... Not your mainstream intertainment... but very enjoyable... I would definitely recommend the experience to anyone.
Fantastic music from Keiko to the drummer to the fabulous horn player! Very enjoyable evening at the Birchmere.
Keiko was unbelievable, the music was wonderful, she has a great personalty and we saw it live at the Birchmere. The setting was a bit less formal allowing us to see her up close and personal. She's a natural comedian and totally sweet.
Flowing like a beautiful butterfly on a wonderful summer day! Keiko captivated me and the audience with her multi talented smoothness. Her style, band, and orr was simply breathtaking
My wife and I truly enjoyed our evening with Keiko Matsui and her band. Keiko perfomed beautifully and her sweet and humble presence on stage is a joy to watch. Keiko's band is a great supporting cast that allows Keiko to performed but yet provide a great flavor of thier own. I lok forward to hopefully seeing Keiko Matsui again.
The show was a real treat. If you enjoy her music, you must see her performing live. She is a magnificent performer who outwardly demonstrates her passion during the show.
My spose and I are lifetime cool jazz fans and selective fans of new age music. Ms. Matsui combines the best of both genres and throws in some hot latin based sounds too. After the show we agreed we had spent the evening with a great and sensitive artist who has managed to remain graceful and charming.
