My first time to hear Kiko in person. I am well expressed with her powerful performance
Keiko was great, she is so dynamic in her music. Her band enhanced her music, giving the audience a real treat.
Keiko Matsui was fabulous as always. I have seen her many times and she amazes every time. She is truly once of the world's most gifted musicians. I feel she should be much bigger than she is. Every time I see an artist perform on the National Stage such as the Superbowl, Grammy's, etc I keep thinking wouldn't it be wonderful if Keiko Matsui was to perform at one of these. Props out to the band as well They vary slightly from show to show but they are always excellent. The only reason I don't give it a 5 start rating is because of the venue. Was my first time at Humphreys. Too small for an artist of this caliber. We were packed in like sardines..
Outstanding performance in a small intimate setting. She is very personable and quite passionate in her music. I will see her again on her next visit to San Diego.
The first show of their new tour more than surpassed my expectations. Keiko is quite a talent with a unique sound. Her material is ageless. She was in fine form, smiling, talking, and playing with great enthusiasm. The band was tight for an opening night. What a delight to see her and the band in a small, intimate venue like Humphrey's Backstage. The only disappoint was the sound mix, which I guess is understandable in a small place. But to walk in 30 minutes before the show and sit 20 feet from Keiko was worth it. Wonderful show.
I highly recommend seeing Keiko Matsui, anyone who can play a piano like that and make you feel the music the way she does is so worth seeing. I only wish that the area was larger as it was over crowded. The waitresses even had trouble working their way to the people in the back. At the end of the night this military man proposed to his girlfriend and she was so shocked and happy... Good end to a perfect evening.
Having heard Keiko Matsui on Soundscapes, I loved her music from afar. Taking my beloved to see her live on Valentine's Day, I fell head over heels in love with the musical genius and rockin energy of this truly gifted woman and her band. An evening with my lady listening to Keiko Matsui in the intimacy of Humphreys Backstage is something I will always treasure.
Wasn't expecting Keiko to play in such a small and intimate setting. We had front row seats. The stage was somewhat crowded but the music was great. Acoustics were pretty good given the size of the lounge.
My wife and I have been listening to Keiko Matsui for at least a decade now. We love her music and feel like some of the dismissals out there about it's being lightweight jazz and new-age fluff are both unfair and inaccurate. That said, we weren't sure what to expect from a live performance. The band was exceptional, bringing a remarkable vibrancy and power to the music and Keiko was as virtuoso a band leader as she was a lyrical player and a charming personality. It appears from the interactions with the crowd that DC is one of her favorite places to play, and it showed. Highly recommended.
Simply amazing! Definitely want to go again after that experience.
As usual Keiko did not disappoint! What a brilliant, dynamic, personable artist. I enjoyed every moment of her performance.
Keiko Matsui never disappoints. She is exceptionally talented, beautiful and very personable. The band was fantastic and her new pieces from the latest albums were great. She always plays my wife's favorite piece, Forever Forever. I always try to see her if we are home.
I have known about the phenomenal Keiko Matsui for many years now, but this was my first opportunity to see her live in concert. We were NOT disappointed. Her passion and energy on the keyboards rivals that of one of my all-time favorite keyboard artists, Keith Emerson (Emerson, Lake & Palmer). Even if you are not familiar with her work, and you enjoy Smooth/Contemporary Jazz, you will fall in love with her and her music.
Keiko Matsui was simply AMAZING! If you like piano fused with drums, guitar, sax, this is the event for you! She composes and blends everything so well. It was crisp, clean, with every song being just as amazing as the previous one. She also likes to talk to the audience between songs, and establishes an excellent rapport. We will definitely see Keiko again! HIGHLY RECOMMEND SEEING HER, YOU WON"T REGRET IT!!!!!
Outstanding show. Great food and location. Thanks.
One of the best shows I have seen in recent years.
i am still humming A Night out with Cha Cha in my head
keiko is always amazing! my son and I are both musicians and we are always happy to find out when she is in town. we have seen her 5 or 6 times and are always extremely happy we went. she is technically excellent and her music is nothing short of wonderful!
This was an incredible performance and she performed favorite and new selections from new CD but it was enjoyable. I treated brother and his wife for their birthday and they truly enjoyed the performance. She gave intro stories to share why and what the song she was going to play for audience reference and signifance that was touching and sensual sound to composition. AWESOME!
My husband and I went to see her concert from Los Angeles. It was definitely worth of it. She is very technical and unique. We really enjoyed her performance. We wish to hear more songs.
