AWESOME performer! special guest was Paul Taylor, who was just as awesome!
just a perfect mix of early compositions and her latest works, the band is such a colorful crew! Brazil, LA, Japan, Holland, Michigan: everyone bringing their unique style; very fun to watch together; and the tempo changed so craft fully keeping me enrapt the entire concert; 2 standing ovations, no one wanted her to stop
Keiko Matsui is a masterful musician, exploring instruments beyond the piano, and her accompanying musicians are each highly proficient. Keiko has a charming personality and delighted the entire audience. Comments from theater-goers after the show were all complimentary. I look forward to seeing her again.
The night before I saw rock legends Journey play and as good as they were I thought Keiko and her band were even better. Every note was crystal clear and the band was obviously well rehearsed. Keiko related to the audience on a very personal level and her entire band showed total professionalism in their musicianship.
Ms Matsui wowed the crowd at the imitate Birchmere venue on Friday night. She was engaging and effusive, bantering with the appreciative crowd during the performance. She introduced most songs, moving between piano, keyboard and a keytar with a jaunty step. Suffice it to say she can "flat beat that piano", her hands a blur over the ivories. The rest of the band (lead & acoustic guitar, bass, drums, and soprano/alto sax & flute) were spot on and tight. At several points we so enjoyed the music we were just sitting and grinning with delight. If she's playing near you, go!
The concert was fantastic! Keiko is a wonderful musician and performer.
Keiko Matsui's shows are best every time and very personalable!!
Wow, what a show! Her recorded music comes alive in person with more energy and emotion. It is a "can't miss".
WOW!!! WHAT A GREAT EVENING OF MUSIC AND SPECIAL GUEST MUSICIANS, JACKIEM JOYNER ON SAX, RICO BELLED (OF THE RIPPINGTONS) ON BASS, AND DAVE KARSONAY (ALSO FROM THE RIPPINGTONS) ON DRUMS.
As always, a breathtaking performance from the incredibly talented Keiko Matsui! Listening to her live transports me to a wonderful place. By the time the show was over, it only seemed as if a few minutes had passed. Thank you!!!! Highly recommended!
It was my 8th wedding anniversary wanted to do something nice so there it was keiko Matsui show in Alexandria VA. The only thing I can say is breathtaking it was like a dream come true. The show was excellent I just love her music so much. We had a wonderful time much love for Ms Matsui. Jerijaguar.
We try to see Keiko Matsui every time she is at the Birchmere. She is a gifted musician and she seemed to be reenergized during this concert. We like the way she introduces a new musician at each performance.
My wife and I truly enjoyed the show and watching Keiko Matsui perform was a thrill.
Kekio was great. they played for almost 2 hours straight. Beautiful playing by Kekio. I thought her sax player was really good as well. As a sax player myself, I can tell you there is nothing like playing for an audience under the lights. It is truly a awesome experience. A night with Cha Cha. Cha Cha is a russian drink. So like all bands, they went out for a few during their tour in Russia. Good thing they didn't have to play the next night. awesome tune. Birchmere is general seating, but they server you dinner so you don't have to eat before or after. You can eat right there. good food, but a tad higher priced.
The venue was perfect. Small and so personal it was a special evening. Keiko engaged her audience during and in between her playing. She overwhelmed us, surpassing all our expectations.
What an amazing talent with a wonderful spirit! We really enjoyed the concert and wish it had been longer! Thanks for coming back to San Diego. Please come again!
The best ever what a great time and a great place to kick back and listen to so great jazz by keiko
In one word!!!! Awesome!!! If you have never seen Keiko Matsui in concert you must see her whenever she in town, it's a concert you're remember for a long time. Keiko is one of the best piano player that I have ever seen since Liberace, Keiko will mesmerize you with her classic style while enteracting with fans. Totally unforgettable concert, do check out Keiko Matsui when she's in your area, you won't be disappointed. Thanks Ecil
Keiko Matsui is such a wonderful performer. Her band members are amazing as well. The show itself was wonderful, but the band member's had such limited space to move. The concert itself was great. However, the dinner/show package was not. The staff at Humphreys seemed very ill-prepared as guests were checking in for dinner seating. We were amongst the first to arrive, and were seated last in the dining room, due to lack of the staff to properly check us in. We ended up in a corner table against the wall. Very disappointing. I would not recommend the dinner/show package.
