Beautiful voice, great songs and a fantastic guitar player! What more could you want?!
Karla Bonoff and Livingston Taylor put on a very enjoyable and memorable evening of amazing music, thoughtful and warm stories and just overall fun with a touch of Christmas. I am looking forward to seeing them again and thank them both for such a feel-good evening of laughter and song.
I have been a huge fan of Karla Bonoff and her music for a long time. I love her songwriting, the lyrics are amazing, and the songs are so heartfelt, no matter who is singing them. Her voice is so rich and she actually brought me to tears at this performance. I have wanted to see her perform in person forever but it never worked out until this concert. And I love the Birchmere so it was perfect. And seeing Livingston Taylor was a great bonus. She also signed a CD an T-shirt for me after the performance and it was so cool to meet her. Can't wait to see her again.
I have been a Karla Bonoff fan since the 70’s. The show opened with Livingston Taylor and he was a treat to watch. What an accomplished songwriting storyteller he was. Karla Bonoff joined and she was a delight. Her voice is as I remembered it. I particularly enjoyed the rapport she and Mr. Taylor had with the audience. I had a smile on my face through the entire show. It was amazing to see these 2 down to earth professionals perform.
I so enjoyed the concert at The Birchmere! It was my first visit to this historic venue and my sister and I reveled in memories of earlier days of music appreciation! Karla Bonoff and Livingston Taylor performed a wonderful concert!
Out of the gate, the Birchmere is a great venue. Livingston and Karla were perfect;y paired, a great balance of holiday and famed material. Listenable and warm - it was a great evening.
On the good side, Karla sounded and looked great. The downside is that Livingston Taylor, while a fine entertainer, was on stage more than she was. Maybe there are reasons for that, such as limited energy, who knows, but it was the KARLA BONOFF concert, so I expected more of her. Also, way too many Christmas songs relative to her material. I'm a big fan, have seen her several times, but I'm wary about going again if the opener is going to be the main act.
Great small venue. Performers are much more themselves! Livingston Taylor was quirky and fun, Karla Bonoff was classic Karla! A small miscue between performers added to the charm of the evening - and kept it intimate! A nice celebration of the Holiday season.
The venue was totally Covid safe. Karla's voice still the same quality after all these years. She played for 90 minutes but I could have listened for 3 hours. Such a billiant singer/songwriter. The piano and guitar sound quality was awesome. I loved that it was just her and accompanied by Nina Gerber electric guitarist (also brilliant).
Better sound checks! Too loud, cut off highs because of volume
She sounded great, and she (piano and guitar) and Nina Gerber (guitar) both supplied some tasty accompaniment.
The venue was very organized. Breezed through the vaccine check and into the lobby. Everyone in the audience kept their masks on the entire time. Karla Bonoff gave a great performance. She was entertaining and her voice is amazing.
Wonderful evening of stories and song. Karla’s incredible body of work was on full display accompanied by the incredible guitar work of the incomparable Nina Gerber.
Outside of the fact that you were unnecessarily warned to come a day or two in advance to have your Covid card authenticated (and for which they were not prepared as I did this), the concert was great! It started on time, the theater was intimate, and the music was terrific. I had seen Karla in concert at Royce Hall, UCLA about 43 years ago, and her voice, if anything is even better. Mixing newer and older material was also seamless. And her accompanyist, Nina, was inspirational. After the concert, Karla and Nina both sat at a table in the lobby, personally greeting fans, selling CDs and Songbooks, and signing autographs. No pretentiousness, just warm and friendly greetings. It's too bad we had to wait four decades to see her in concert again in Southern California. I also wanted to add that the Scherr Auditorium is a terrific venue to see a concert, small enough to be intimate feeling, but large enough to make it worthwhile. My first visit there but I'll be back.
Karla was a wonderful as always. Intimate theater. Great accompanying guitarist.
How I have missed live music. More than I knew. Sunday night, I had the opportunity to sit in the first row, masked & delighted, next to other vaccinated fans, despite trepidation being in such a setting in this Covid world. Karla Bonoff’s music has soothed my soul for 4 decades. There is no substitute for hearing her music in person, along with her stories. When she and the amazing Nina Gerber left the stage, my friend and I whispered our hopes for the encore to each other, and first it was her choice, KB’s timeless (with addition of tweets!) Personally, and next, my choice, the Scottish folk song KB has been singing since a teenager, The Water is Wide. PS Nina Gerber’s acoustic version of Imagine had us in tears. She is an amazing musician. So many layers of meaning, with more added this past year and a half plus.
Even when at the end, her electronic chord for her guitar did not work, the audience encouraged her to just play! Her voice rang out true and clear and it was great! I would love to be able to sing along a bit - maybe she can do this for a song or two and the audience can help with the chorus!
This cozy auditorium only holds about 300 people...great acoustics...It was just Karla and her accompanying guitarist...she played the guitar and piano...I love her crystal clear voice with zero vibrato...she talked to the audience about some of the songs and made us laugh quite a bit...hope she comes closer to Los Angeles...I live in Arcadia so it was 50+ mile drive in the rain...
We reallly enjoyed Karla Bonoff's concert, She sang well and included a variety of her songs, some not too well known and others that are classic. Nice to hear a singer song writer who has a long history of involvement in the folk and pop fields.
Great concert and stage presence. Nice acoustics. Really like the Birchmere - such a nice intimate setting. Nina Berger was excellent accompaniment and did a beautiful guitar rendition of Imagine by John Lennon.
