About

JOYWAVE IN CONCERT:

Few bands can get self-restrained indie rock fans dancing with reckless abandon quite like Joywave. The New York-based quintet blends sunny indie melodies with disco beats and shimmering synths, and the result is a seriously party-worthy sound that always gets fans moving their feet. In concert frontman Daniel Armbruster delivers his effortlessly cool vocals with plenty of style, and fans can't help but boogie along with him as he shakes to the driving rhythms of tracks like "Destruction". Whether they're performing their breakout hit "Dangerous" or rocking out to the anthemic chorus of "Tongues", Joywave brings plenty of feel-good disco energy to the stage every time they perform.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Joywave formed in Rochester, NY in 2010 and made their debut the following year with the single "Ridge". They self-released their first EP Koda Vista in 2012, and in 2013 they topped Billboard's Alternative Songs chart with "Dangerous", a collaboration with Brooklyn-based indietronica producer Big Data. The exposure from that breakout hit led to a flurry of critical attention, and the band made good on all the buzz in 2014 with their second EP How Do You Feel. As the singles "Tongues" and "Somebody New" racked up plays online, the band hit the road for extensive touring that included a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live and VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live. After touring they returned to the studio, and in 2015 they released their full-length debut album How Do You Feel Now? The album was a critical and commercial success, cracking the Top 40 on both the Alternative and Rock charts and drumming up major excitement for their tour in support of the release.

Both opening bands, jr astronmers and foreign air, put on a great show and joywave brought it home strong. the underground is small at 800 capacity which makes the shows feel more personal and the sound was fantastic.

    Great night! Very fun!

by HeatherBrightside on 9/23/17The Underground - Charlotte

The venue was very up close and personal. I loved how close the stage was and the staff was friendly. Joywave was amazing!!! And so was Foreign Air! We even got to meet some of the band after the show inside the venue with nobody yelling at us to leave like a lot of places do. Highly recommend this venue and event!

This event can't be explained in words...

by MiqIzze on 9/4/16Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

This was my third time seeing these guys live. I have never seen them perform so loose and happy. True grit has been performed and Life in a Bubble I Blew. I have neverrrrr seen either of those performed especially Life In a Bubble I blew. These are great musicians who hopefully continue to go far with their career. I recommend everyone to see them. Honestly, you never know what to expect from these guys. This time. I have no words. One of the best performances I've ever experienced live. Please, if you have the chance to see them regardless as an opener or in a small venue support them and go see them. They will never disappoint.

    So much energy!

by Mercury316 on 7/6/16The Club at Stage AE - Pittsburgh

They were so awesome! I wasn't really sure what to expect, but wow, I was really impressed. I honestly can't believe that they're not more popular- they definitely will be eventually! A very upbeat, fun, and down to earth approach to the performance, the sound was great, and the set list was spot on. I danced my butt off! Truly awesome show.

by MikeOS on 6/30/16The Club at Stage AE - Pittsburgh

Great show! Joywave is full of energy, fresh. This show was nearing the end of a tour leg, but they showed no signs of boredom. Great crowd interaction, response to crowd energy. A LOT of fun!

    Joywave was absolutely amazing!

by Mo0411 on 6/23/16Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Joywave exemplifies what is amazing about alternative rock! I saw them once before at Bower Ballroom, and was mesmerised at their amazing crowd energy. The lead singer is super energetic, and can command the entire crowd with a wave of his arms! When he crouches, we crouch. When he jumps, we jump. When he gets into his music, so do we! Joywave was an absolute delight, and I can not wait to see them again!!

Joywave is one the best bands to see live. They always deliver a fantastic show no matter where we see them and this was our third venue. Not only is their music hands down amazing but their live performance is one you'll always want to see again.

Got so much joy from Joywave

by Feffity on 5/19/16The Cambridge Room at House Of Blues - Dallas

I absolutely adored this concert. I got there about an hour and a half early and there weren't that many people in line yet, letting me get a spot right in the front by the speaker. It was a sparce crown right up until minutes before the show, but the room filled up really quickly and the people were amazing! So many people were jumping and screaming and there were hands everywhere. The venue was gorgeous, cool pattern painted walls and ceilings and cool lighting fixtures, paintings everywhere. The acoustics were great. The band was, of course, amazing. Daniel's voice is just as wonderful live as on cd, and he and the other guys did such a good job of keeping the audience pumped.

    Absolutely incredible event!!

by Mo0411 on 11/3/15Bowery Ballroom - New York

Joywave is one of those bands that almost everyone has heard of, but not necessarily knows. My recommendation- get to know them. They are fantastic! Incredible stage energy and performance. Daniel, the lead singer, was jumping up and down, singing each and every song with as much passion and energy as the first song. The crowd was encouraged to jump up and down, wave arms, and sing along! Excellent song. Great shout out to opening acts. Would love to see them again.

    Tons of Energy

by Tibido4lyfe on 10/27/15Brighton Music Hall - Boston

I saw Joywave in October 2015 at the Brighton Music Hall with other acts: KOPPS and Mikaela Davis. KOPPS also had a ton of energy, but a bad mix with way to much squeaky vocals. I would not watch KOPPS again with the same mix, but they would be fun to see if this changed. Mikaela Davis seemed an odd match with the other two acts. Very sleepy music and her set was between the other bands, which really sucked the energy out of the room. Joywave was great. Sound guy woke up for this act. Very energetic act. Respectful of their fans.

    High Energy, Awesome Band

    by laurmommy15 on 10/9/15The Shelter - Detroit

Great concert! High energy, alot of fun. Can't wait to see them again! Super nice guys! My daughter and her friends encountered a pushy, rude person and the band and the venue apologized. It happens at concerts, we were impressed that the band and the security really cared about their welfare.

Worth It in Every Way Possible

by Trumani on 10/7/15A and R Music Bar - Columbus

Joywave is hands down one of the best live performances I've been to. They engage the audience. The lead singer energized the crowd through his movements and humor as well as great singing. The opening acts were pretty great too.

Joywave decided to come back to Columbus!!

by AgentSnow on 10/7/15A and R Music Bar - Columbus

One of the lower ticketed crowds that they have had on the tour in one of the smaller venues. At least in pre sales. To the point where Joywave joked on social media that this was their farewell Columbus show. Their label mates, Kopps, started the show and got the crowd going. They were very energetic and were great to start. I listened to their music leading up to the show and was very impressed and they sounded great live. The second opener was Grace Mitchell and she was good but not as memorable. Then Joywave was up and got the crowd into it right away. Being that it was a smaller venue it became immediately intimate. They talked to the crowd and each interacted throughout he show. Very funny conversations were had. They got the whole entire crowd to jump even though we were all probably college age and over and probably haven't jumped in a show in a while. It was very fun and I can't wait to see them again. To that point they had a blast themselves and said that this would definitely not be he last time they came to Columbus and they can't wait to come back to see that crowd!!

Joywave put on a great show, as always. Starting with opening band KOPPS, the crowd was up and dancing and having a great time. The atmosphere was very enjoyable and I loved the crowd.
