About

Since her breakthrough in 2020, acclaimed singer-songwriter Joy Oladokun has been hailed by Rolling Stone as "Nashville's most low-key musical revolutionary" and celebrated for her uniquely vulnerable voice. Oladokun has released two highly acclaimed albums--2021's in defense of my own happiness and 2023's Proof of Life--both appearing on numerous best-of-the-year lists. Oladokun's forthcoming project, Observations From a Crowded Room, due out October 18, marks a significant evolution in her career. This 15-track collection--comprised of 12 songs and 3 interludes--reflects her growth as an artist and producer, blending her pop-folk roots with electronic and psychedelic elements. Solely written and produced by Oladokun, the album represents a personal and artistic turning point, crafted during a period of introspection and questioning. A proud queer Black woman and daughter of Nigerian immigrants, Oladokun has graced prestigious stages like the White House for the Respect for Marriage Act signing ceremony, as well as national TV appearances including "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," and "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" She has also performed on "CBS Saturday Morning," "TODAY," PBS' "Austin City Limits," and NPR Music's "Tiny Desk (Home) Concert." Oladokun's music has resonated across diverse platforms, from documentaries to popular TV series like "And Just Like That," "CSI: Vegas" and "Grey's Anatomy." Her song "i see america" was a finalist for the Recording Academy's Special Merit Award for Best Song for Social Change. Widely respected by her peers, Oladokun has collaborated with artists such as Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, Jason Isbell and Noah Kahan and has joined Morris, Isbell, Kahan, John Mayer, Tyler Childers, Hozier, My Morning Jacket, Pink Sweat$, Leon Bridges and Manchester Orchestra on the road.

  • Disappointed

by Sunflower Lou on 2/2/25Irving Plaza Powered By Verizon 5G - New YorkRating: 1 out of 5

All the songs sounded the same. Rather depressing as well Very Tracy Chapman who I was never a big fan of We saw a segment on the CBS morning show and thought she sounded great but she sounded nothing like that in person. And where was the guitarist who was great on CBS morning show?

  • The amazing Joy Oladukun

    by XMAS59 on 1/31/25State Theatre - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

The first hour was just Joy playing acoustic and it felt so personal. The second hour was with her band. The only draw back to the show was that the venue had their balcony closed. There were many times when my view was obstructed by people standing. I cannot stand for very long due to a medical condition and the balcony would've been a much better option for me. But otherwise I loved being in Joy Oladukun's presence and it was well worth the 210 mile drive.

  • Joy is a must-see!

by Shari on 1/29/25Théâtre Beanfield - MontrealRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing concert! We felt so lucky to have seen her in an intimate venue. Very talented artist.

  • Incredible Artist!

by Darcy on 1/29/25House of Blues Cleveland - ClevelandRating: 5 out of 5

Joy's lyrics and honesty are a true gift. I had won a table in the VIP area but left to be in the crowd. A crowd that hung on every word and every strum of her guitar. We cheered and we cried. We shared our pain and hope. If you haven't listened to Joy, download it all and play it over and over. Joy can help us heal or at least give us some hope that we might survive the next few years.

  • Joy is pure joy.

by Chewlett on 1/28/25Théâtre Beanfield - MontrealRating: 5 out of 5

I had the absolute pleasure of experiencing this artist for the first time the other night, and they completely blew me away. It’s one of those magical moments where you discover someone new and instantly become a huge fan—listening to their music on repeat for days. I can’t recommend enough that everyone go see Joy live; it was an unforgettable experience!

by Joanna is Joyful on 8/26/24The ELM - BozemanRating: 5 out of 5

Joy Oladakun is one of my favorite artists and she did not disappoint. She has a beautiful voice and personality and I feel so lucky to have seen her before she becomes a super mega star as I know she will be. The ELM venue in Bozeman was perfect for her.

  • Beyond Wxcited

by Pamcham and Fam on 8/15/24Minglewood Hall - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was small and intimate. Up close and personal. Joy was about 20 ft from us and Gray was even closer. This was my 3rd time to see Joy Oladokun play. Nashville, St. Louis and Memphis. I’m a boomer (age 63) and I’m so happy to have discovered her music, through Daisy Spencer, Joy’s former lead guitar. I wish the show could have lasted longer, but I was able to get an extra song from her as the concert was winding down. Being so close to the stage, I just spoke to Joy, and said “I’ve been sleeping in the hallway. I want to listen for your footsteps if you wake up to go…” Joy chuckled and said something like “ok 2 more songs!” She called it a “smoosh.” Wonderful night that I will never forget!

  • Bigger Venues Ahead For This Incredible Artist!

by Jeff O. on 11/27/23The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Incredible, mesmerizing performance by an amazing artist on the way up! The positive energy and excitement of the incredibly diverse audience was just overflowing. We were all aware that we were experiencing something very special. What a night!

  • a Joy

sound a little muddy at the venue but Joy was fabulous. Hope they will come to LA more often and stick to intimate venues.

  • Wonderful experience

by The Marina Hill Gang on 11/13/23The Belasco - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Great venue. Super chill. Decent acoustics. Good drinks. Everyone from front to back was great including the chill crowd.

  • Love that she was better live than recorded!

by SBinATX on 11/8/23Scoot Inn - AustinRating: 5 out of 5

The Scoot remains my favorite venue in Austin - even though they started this weird “upgrade area” where you now pay extra for a table, seats and a dedicated bar line. We were totally fine with the usual GA experience. Joy O. did not disappoint. The crowd fell in love with both their authenticity and vulnerability that was demonstrated throughout the show. Excellent vocals and sound.

  • Amazing show at an incredible venue!

by Andy on 11/8/23Scoot Inn - AustinRating: 5 out of 5

First time at Scoot Inn…. And got to enjoy one of my favorite musicians (Joy Oladokun) at this amazing venue. Perfect vibe for her show, but she could play anywhere with a voice like hers and I’d show up for it! Took my wife and three teenage boys and everyone loved the venue and show so much. Definitely will be looking to return for more shows at Scoot Inn!

  • Amazing!

by Helen Bed on 10/27/23Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

  • Killer show!

by ZZ on 10/5/23Irving Plaza Powered By Verizon 5G - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Joy was such a rockstar! So much fun to watch her and the band jam out. Awesome opener too - phenomenal experience all the way around.

  • Short show but sweet

by Remy on 10/5/23Irving Plaza Powered By Verizon 5G - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Joy was on for just a little bit over an hour. Great performance but a little bit short set in my estimation. Crowd talked a lot even during her performance and the sound didn’t reach the back of the hall near bar very well.
