  • Strangers become friends

Josh Ritter is an absolute genius when it comes to connecting with a live audience largely because he looks like he's having the time of his life while he's performing. The constant smile on his face is so warm and genuine it lures the audience into feeling as if they are surrounded by intimate friends, rather than crammed into a small theater to listen to someone sing.

I was a first timer but fit in quick. Josh grabs the house and does not let go till we got our fill!!!!

  • Josh Ritter = AWESOME

by OliviainBolivia on 5/22/10Orpheum Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Josh Ritter's shows are always magical for me, and Boston being home for a few of the band members made it an extra special show for everyone I think. Songs were beautiful, performance spot on, and everyone, band and audience alike, seemed to be enjoying themselves immensely. Wonderful evening! Can't wait to catch another Ritter show later this summer!

  • Awesome music

by acerum on 5/22/10Orpheum Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Josh Ritter and his band were wonderful. They are all so talented, playing the cello, guitar , mandolin, keyboards and drums expertly and with flair. And I like Josh Ritter's energy, he seemed so happy, smiling, jumping around and kidding with the band. I liked the way he interacted with his fans, shinning the lights on the audience and having fans singing parts of songs while he listened and truly seemed to love the interplay.

  • Ritter, GREAT show.

The show was absolutely fantastic! Totally blown away with the energy. If you are familiar with the soft/folk stuff you will not be disapointed, but you will be presantly surprised with the rest of the music and the band. Great voice, great lyrics, great show. And even from the very back of the Orpheum, you could see his smile and tell he loved doing the show.

  • Ritter Rules

    by Bob2718281828 on 5/22/10Orpheum Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I've been going to Josh Ritter shows for years and every single one has been awesome. Last night was no exception. One usually doesn't like the the "new songs" as much as the ones one already knows, but this time I did. My only regret is that he restrained himself and didn't do one of his trademark ramble/monologues.

  • Amazing night

    by Thereviewer14 on 5/22/10Orpheum Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This was without a doubt the best show I have ever been to. The band was charismatic and unpretentious. They played all the songs I loved with more energy than on the albums, and everything was played wonderfully. The show was just over two hours, no including the opening act. He played all but two songs off the new album, most of the previous album, and everyone's favorites old songs like Kathleen, Monster Ballads, Good Man and In the Dark. There were no audio problems, the volume was perfect. We had great seats. Josh Ritter is without a doubt a man who knows how to put on a show. He talked to the audience between songs, and by the end of the show every person in the room felt personally acquainted with him. He grinned and danced around the entire time. It was a life changing experience.

Josh Ritter's concert was AMAZING! He and the band were stoked to be back in Boston and it showed. His new music is really cool. He did a nice job of mixing old and new. it was my first time seeing a concert at the Orpheum Theater. It's a great venue and I hope to return soon.

  • Josh Ritter & Co. Storm Orpheum

    by ben77 on 5/22/10Orpheum Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This show was terrific - I've been a fan for a while but this was my first time to see Josh perform live. A great mix of new and old tunes, with some fun surprises to mix it up as well. The whole band (especially Josh) were having a great time and this carried right over to the whole crowd. The Orpheum is a little old but it has so much character that it was a great place to see these guys. I completely recommend seeing them live and if they're ever back in Boston at the Orpheum, well...you could do worse.

  • Josh Ritter is phenomenal

by Wingram on 5/22/10Orpheum Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Beautiful vocals, breathtaking ballads, haunting folk stories inspired by Poe that make your heart break and eyes tear up, all followed by energizing tounge-tripping, shoe-stomping, rock and roll that launches entire theaters to their feet. Josh Ritter has the power to captivate the hearts, minds and rhythm of all ages.

  • Josh Ritter at the Orpheum

    by ro808 on 5/22/10Orpheum Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Josh Ritter and the Royal City Band were amazing! There was so much energy in the air and everyone was on their feet for much of the second half of the concert. I've seen Josh Ritter ten times so far and I think this particular concert was the most fun of them all. Josh and his band were obviously having a blast on stage and were awesome to watch. Josh is the nicest, most gracious human being ever and despite the fact that he is ridiculously talented, he doesn't let it go to his head. What I love about him is he thanks the audience after every song and he gave us numerous opportunities to sing along. I met him in person about 8 years ago when his musical career was just beginning in the US. I then had the privilege of meeting him after a show six years later and he hadn't changed at all. He was still the same, down-to-earth, sweet guy as always. His attitude is so refreshing and he is one of my favorite artists to see in concert. His shows never disappoint. The Royal City Band is also fantastic and Josh is really good about sharing the spotlight.

  • Welcome back, Josh!

Two years was worth the wait! Josh's new songs are as hauntingly beautiful as the old ones, and this concert was a great mix of old and new. What a magical night!

Great show! Josh had great energy. He was kind of like a kid at an amusement park. He was obviously very excited to play this show. Although his excitement was a bit childish at times, it was endearing and infectious. He seemed to get serious when it counted. This was one of the funnest shows i have ever been too. The band was very charismatic and playful. I liked the part where all the lights turned off, and the bass player's singing bit (don't want to give too much away) was great. Josh is an amazing song writer and great performer. Both he and his band sounded excellent. They were very tight and the songs were spot-on. I also really enjoyed the setlist. Admittedly, i didn't know some of the most popular songs but they were good. I only have everything from Animal Years on. The Punch Brothers were really great. First of all, they are AMAZING musicians. I had seen Chris Thile perform with Nickel Creek a few years ago so I had an idea of what to expect. That was pretty much my first intro to bluegrass so I didn't really get it at the time but I loved the material that this band played. I will definitely get the album coming out in June. I knew Chris Thile was possibly the best mandolin player in the world but i didn't realize he was such a good singer and frontman. He was very charismatic and his blurbs were quite funny. Also, great choices on covers. It took me a minute but i figured both of them out. This was a concert put on by people who LOVE to play music. It showed in both the quality of the music they played as well in there performance. It's a great example of the joy that music can bring to people's lives and how great the concert experience can be.
