  • Joseph & the Technicolor Dreamcoat was amazing!

by Anonymous on 4/29/15Clowes Memorial Hall - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The play Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Clowes Memorial Hall in Indianapolis WAS amazing. Our seats were excellent for the program and the production was truly very entertaining. We enjoyed every musical selection and the cast was super talented. An outstanding performance. We couldn't believe it lasted two hours---we enjoyed it so much it seemed like we had only been there a short time.

  • Rewritten

by Bretreo on 4/25/15Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New OrleansRating: 3 out of 5

The play has been altered with a liberal twist. In this Play Joseph sleeps with Potifer's wife. In addition the words are changed on the songs to account for every thing as luck. I saw this play in Kansas City and it was much better. In addition I did not particularly enjoyed Diana Degarmo's voice.

  • Very Disappointing

by Rarice on 4/24/15Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New OrleansRating: 1 out of 5

This ranks positively as the worse production ever offered by the Saenger. The two leads (Narrator and Joseph) were both awful; she could not hit the notes and he was so nasal that I almost offered him some nose spray. It was a pity to see such a delightful play (which I had previously seen done quite well) so botched. The sets and costumes were ridiculous and the cast seemed to be running through the numbers without any expression or feeling. Terrible casting, terrible set direction and terrible production.

High energy, very talented cast. Sets were well planned and expertise in switching was surprising. I was impressed with the way the Biblical story was followed , but in a creative way...interpreter was a creative role that worked! Thanks for the experience.

Great show! Loved the engagement with the audience and the local flavor when appropriate.

Joseph had amazing dancing. The actors who portrayed the brothers, Potiphar, and Pharaoh were incredible. I had been looking forward to seeing Diana DeGarmo as the Narrator and Ace Young as Joseph, but it felt underwhelming. They were the weak links in the show. Her voice sounded tinny a lot of the time, and she could not belt out the parts that she needed to as well as she should have. Ace Young sounded either really tired or ill. He didn't sing that loud and sometimes his enunciation of the words seemed lazy. The best part with Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young was when they sang the duet at the end of the show. My husband's comment afterward was that they should do shows where they sing duets, but not solos. Overall, it was really good, and I'm glad we went. There was just some room for improvement.

  • Great performance But Deviated from True Story

by BroadwayTex on 4/21/15Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New OrleansRating: 3 out of 5

The staging and lights and performance wee Amazing. However, I downrated the rating because it varied from the true Bible story. Especially the scene with Potifer's wife. Joseph never caved in to her unwanted advances. He fled from her and kept his integrity even though it cost him prison. That is a better story than inserting all the sex implications and bed scene and slandering Joseph's character. Ruined it for me. And actually the true story would have made a better plot!

  • A Fun Night

by Nolaman1961 on 4/21/15Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New OrleansRating: 4 out of 5

I saw "Joseph" at the Saenger back in the early 1980's when it was part of the season package. I remembered being much better than I thought it would be. This production has been updated with new technology and is an amazing spectacle. Had lots of humor and that was a nice treat. Excellent staging especially the bowl & spoon sequence. I thought Diana Digarmo did an excellent job at the narrator. I thought Ace Young had the bod to play the part of Jacob but I thought his voice was too nasally for my taste. Some of the supporting cast was difficult to understand.

  • Almost walked out in the fist half.

by NolaMG on 4/20/15Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New OrleansRating: 3 out of 5

First half was painful. 2nd half had one good and one great performance. Both were from the backup singer/dancers. The leads were painful to watch and listen to. Both leads needs to be recast asap.

  • JOSEPH was MARGINAL

by TRUMPETMAJOR on 4/19/15Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New OrleansRating: 2 out of 5

JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT is one of my favorite musical stageplays. This having been said, the performance in New Orleans on 4/17/2015 was marginal at best. Diana DeGarmo was shrill but not nearly as disappointing as her husband ACE YOUNG's meager singing voice as the lead character JOSEPH. He was extremely unimpressive and weak, although many of the supporting players were quite good. Ryan Williams portrayal of Pharaoh was decent but lacking much of the true "Elvis" panache which many others have shown in prior versions. Only his ad-lib to excite the New Orleans locals is notable as a stand-out to excite the audience. The characters who played Joseph's brothers were somewhat "second-rate", but at least did get their lines pretty well. The orchestra was what salvaged much of the evening, and kept the performance from being a total bust. The audience was exiting in droves prior to the cast trying for an encore - deservedly so !

  • Dreamcoat was awesome!

by Jenjb18 on 4/19/15Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New OrleansRating: 4 out of 5

The show was great. The music was lively and I thoroughly enjoyed the production. The staging and lightning added to the play's excitement.

  • Joseph and the Amaing Technicolor Coat - Amazing

by Nola717 on 4/19/15Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New OrleansRating: 4 out of 5

Joseph and the Technicolor Coat was amazing. I thought Joesph's brother's stole the show. Their dancing was superb and they kept the audience involved.

  • Not Good As Should Have Been

by PMBl on 4/19/15Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New OrleansRating: 3 out of 5

The two main singers' voices were not of the quality of a Broadway play. The singers' volume was not quite sufficient either which was probably the theater's fault! Joseph was presented As impure which totally violates the facts in the Bible. The choreography was great. Creativity was quality!

the show was great, perfect length... but the sound was not crisp. so i missed many of the words

  • Go-go-go-Joe!

by smilie6 on 4/18/15Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

Joseph was amazing! The technical addition of using clothing as a video screen was incredible. The actors did a great job both singing and dancing. Choreography was fresh and new. I enjoyed it from start to finish.

  • Fresh approach to classic musical

by JosephMan on 4/18/15Clowes Memorial Hall - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The play did not disappoint. I have attended 20 productions of Joseph and this one ranks near the top of all the productions. The staging, lighting, sets, and projections were novel and enhanced the performance. The choreography in this performance was outstanding. I liked the inside joke with Pharaoh (Elvis) mentioning" Indy haven't seen you since Market Square". The only criticism I have is that I didn't think that Joseph or the Narrator's singing voice was as good as I have experienced in the past.

Was a fun musical to see. A lot of life and enthusiasm from the cast. The production itself was amazing. I enjoy watching the transitions and the scene changes plus the lighting as well as the show. A great and fun evening. The Saenger is always a joy.
