The cast and orchestra were excellent. Loved many of the bits. Enjoyed the lighting and sets.

I've never seen this show before but I know the music well. I was not super impressed with this particular group. The narrator was great, but Joseph was pretty lackluster (although he did have great abs!) Those Caanan Days was the highlight of the show. After the show, my friend was amazed that the audience just wasn't into it. She said she'd never seen this show where they didn't get the audience up and dancing during the finale. It was good but not great.

  • It was ok

We were sitting in Row 1, definitely a poor spot if you're short. The front wall was too high. The sound equipment wasn't very good. The visual and the performers were great. The music wasn't my cup of tea. The whole thing felt like a college musical.

Have always loved this play--seen it many times in many venues. This production knocked my socks off! It was magical--everything was near perfect. Extraordinary lighting, choreography, sets, costumes, acting, singing, dancing. Pure bliss!

I wasn't sure what to expect regarding the storyline and was pleasantly surprised at the humor and performances. Ace Young was cast perfectly in the lead and I especially enjoyed the team of performers that played the brothers. Diane DeGarmo is almost too strong of a singer to be a singing narrator and it was a bit difficult understand what she was saying/singing. All in all, it was great fun.

We enjoyed the show, but were a bit disappointed in the 21st century take on a story from the Bible. The first time we saw the show, late 1990's, it was much more in line with the actually Bible story in terms of costuming, scenery, etc. The 21st century version was not as genuine as the first. Enjoy it, but not what we had hoped.

  • Ace Young's Joseph was disappointing

by beta75 on 6/2/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 3 out of 5

I've loved this musical ever since I've seen a high school production of it. I know all the songs by heart, and I listened to them again for a week or two before seeing the show. However, Ace Young's rendition of the songs were really disappointing. He has a good voice, but it's not for musicals. His acting is sub-par, and he smiles too much unnecessarily. He felt really out of place for me, and did not display the confidence that the Joseph character should have. Overall the show was good, not great. The brothers were fun, so were the ensemble of dancers. Diana Degarmo is also a great singer, and a better actor than her husband.

Very nice. Loved all the songs and sang to them. Excellent dancing and spot on. The only thing I missed was that the children did not sing as they had done in San Diego.

  • Musical "Joseph" was wonderful!

by HBSJ on 5/31/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 4 out of 5

I hadn't seen this musical for over 20+ years. I was so happy when I heard it was on tour again and just had to see it. Had wonderful seats in the second row. The orchestra was terrific and the most of the actors/singers were wonderful as well. I think there were a few numbers that the singers could have "belted out" a little better. All in all, it was a good production, but I don't think anyone will come close to the Donny Osmond production.

  • Amazing!

I can't believe Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has been around for 50 years! It was very well produced and completely blew me away.

Not knowing anything about the show, I thoroughly enjoyed it! The music, singing and acting were suburb!

  • Loved it

by surina on 5/30/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 4 out of 5

It was a very enjoyable performance. The music was after all, Andrew Llyod Webber. The cast was very entertaining. They had really good talents on the show. The sound needs improvement though. We sat in the first front row seats and there were times that the sound was not so clear. If they can improve the sound it would be perfect since they had really exceptional talents. Overall, it was a wonderful show. The script was so entertaining and the music was lovely. When we went on half time, the kids were surprise it was already almost an hour. They said it felt like it just started.

The story and show was great, it seemed the performers were truly enjoying the performance, audio level was clear.

  • Joseph not so amazing.

by QueenLily on 5/22/14DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 3 out of 5

The costume and set design of the show was impressive. My seats were in the upper balcony, so the performance appeared minimized and I wished that I had binoculars. The music was still loud and my kids enjoyed listening since we couldn't see that well. We could only afford the cheapest seating for a family of five to attend, and the cost outweighed the quality of the experience. I didn't realize until later that the narrator and lead actor were real-life sweethearts and previous American Idol winners. I believe it from Joseph with that perfectly toned chest, but the girl had a slightly nasalized, thin voice that got under my skin. I've seen the Dreamworks version of Joesph, King of Dreams, and it was more engaging than the show. I wouldn't have understood fully what was going on if I didn't know the details from the Bible story. The silver lining was the hint of humor sprinkled throughout the soundtrack, such as the Pharaoh dressed like Elvis, shaking his hips and telling the audience, "It's good to be the king." I was more amazing that they managed to avoid references to God.

Joseph and thevtechniclor dream coat was a thoroughly enjoyable production. First half stayed true to bible while the second half became a comedic romp. All in all, It was a great time with constant verse and humor.

  • Leads were not really stong voices

by 41732 on 5/21/14DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 3 out of 5

I think for a person seeing this for the first time it would be fun. However, I felt that the voices of Joseph and the Narrator were weak and did not project as one would expect. I also felt there was too much "messing" with the props during the performances. However, overall it was entertaining but average.
