  • ALW's least accomplished musicals

by AdrianSong on 6/7/14Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 1 out of 5

Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat isn't ALW's best works. Although this traveling production has a lot of fast paced story telling, glitz, and glamour, the one very thing it lacks is what it needs; a good story. I've seen musicals where the culmination of the story sets up a character alone on stage singing with little orchestral accompany, it;s beautiful and I'm captivated. JaTTD masks it's lack of with too much, and it doesn't mask very well. And the lead is very difficult to hear as if he smashes his words together.

  • Enjoyable

The show was very good. There were quite a few times we could not hear or understand the lyrics. Also I was quite bummed that Joseph was caught in bed rather true Biblical account.

  • Energetic and fun

The cast was full of energy and the songs had a great modern twist. The costumes and scenery were colorful and moved seamlessly. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and came out humming.

  • A great classic with a modern twist!

    by Robbyd90 on 6/7/14Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

The play was beyond expectations! Casting was subperb, had a great air about them! Only pitfall was the music being a smidgen too loud over the vocals. Other than that everything was SPECTACULAR!!!

by Pijgo on 6/6/14Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Updated fresh version, full of singing, dancing and clever ways of using the stage, costumes and props. The Canaan Days number is so awsome, it's worth seeing the show twice just for that number. a FUNtastic night.

  • Great new production of an old favorite

by Matoki on 6/6/14Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I saw "Joseph" a long time ago and ever since I have the music and I love it. This production surprised me with it's fresh, new take of the stage design and an overall great energy, lots of extended dance number and over all happiness that engulfed the audience and made everyone leave with smiles on their faces! Great job!

  • Loved this Show want to go again!

    by Sheepgirl123 on 6/6/14Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I love musicals and love the Pantageous. Bought 4 tickets an new it would be a good Webber musical. We did know what to expect but as the show went onward every number was better than the on before! I took my adult son for his first musical and he said he would want to see it again and would be more open to seeing other musicals. The technology they used in this updated version was very fun and as the light reflected back into the audience it was a great audience involver. Diane has the most stunning voice and charmed us as the songs were sung. Joseph was wonderful as was the entire cast! the men's choir was just perfect. Loved Potiphar and loved the Pharos! Elevis was hilarious!... We really had fun watching him perform....I am looking forward to coming back and see the next time of my life at the Pantageous!

  • Joseph, Joseph, is it really you?

by Bobbbereebob on 6/5/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 4 out of 5

We/'ve seen many professional and amateur productions of Joseph over the past 30 years. Our children and grandchildren can sing along with each song. This one was very good with the exception that the leads (Joseph and the Narrator)'s voices were weak compared to the rest of the troupe and compared to prior versions we've seen. Even with that caveat, Joseph is a great standard, it was well presented, cleverly staged and the whole cast gave all their energy to make it a good family event for us.

  • Handing down wonderful memories

by robtom12 on 6/5/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 5 out of 5

Joseph is a magnificent musical. I first saw it when I was about 10, and I just took my own 10 year old to see it. She loved it as much as I had. I loved it even more this time. It's a family tradition, and we sing every song in the car, with grandparents down to grandkids. THis performance was excellent, including imaginative use of lights and props. Slick choreography that made each song visually as well as musically and lyrically amazing. Non-stop energy. The Narrator was especially good. And Joseph did a very good job - way better than when I saw Jason Donovan in London - because he can actually sing. And the ladies I am sure enjoyed his physique - he certainly seemed proud of it.

  • Joseph was awesome

by 101214 on 6/4/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 5 out of 5

I have waited over 20 years to see this production and it was well worth the wait. I sang every song and knew each and every word and had a blast. No way I will ever pass up this opportunity again.

  • Great Rendition

by SJCCMT on 6/4/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 5 out of 5

Ace Young and Diana Degarmo are perfect in the roles of Joseph and the Narrator, respectively. The brothers who have solos are also excellent. There are so many "moments" that the director gave the performers that it made the music much more like a concert. Ace Young's body is a wonderland.

  • Good for whole family

by toadz on 6/4/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 4 out of 5

The music and story is good for the whole family. Missed the children's choir from the old productions but enjoyed the use of technology in this production. There were a few scenes where props were put together as screens and pictures were projected on them. Also nice touch at curtain call when we get to see the actors without costume.

  • Joseph was fun

by TWCA on 6/4/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 3 out of 5

The music is fun, the ensemble was mostly fabulous, I enjoyed the use of modern technology to further the storyline. Degarmo and Young sound fantastic together but I wanted to see a stronger connection to the rest of the cast. Surprised that Young did not dance at all, in a musical?

Absolutely fun and the talent of all was amazing! We would love to see this play again.

  • Don't miss this great revival of Joseph!

by MJGES on 6/3/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 5 out of 5

We saw the touring revival of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in San Jose, CA. The talent was exceptional, the changes made based on new interpretations of the material were great and didn't take away from the original which I saw in San Francisco when I was much younger. My children ages 11, 8, and 3.5 had a fabulous time and want us to play the music daily.

  • Endless Energy and Entertainment

by BromannSmith on 6/3/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 5 out of 5

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was incredible. I took my mother-in-law to see a Sunday matinee performance and was a bit apprehensive with the number of young children in the audience. But as soon as the show started, the audience was fixated on the colorful, talented, energetic, and entertaining cast. I would see it again and definitely recommend for all ages.
