  • Nope

Simply put - not good. Joseph was casted well physically, but did not have any power behind his voice which just made it awful and at times hard to hear him. When Joseph and the narrator were singing they clashed terribly as her voice was so powerful. The closing number was good, but not worth sitting through the whole play to get to it.

  • Joseph & His Dreamcoat ... Just Fantastic!

by BigElle on 6/14/14Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I remember seeing this for the first time as a 1st grader at my elementary school and thought it was just amazing. Big production, big stage, big people, big songs, and lots of pretty colors. Now I don't remember every single bit I saw being 6 years old, but I can say that this Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat @ the Pantages was not quite the same. BUT that's not a bad thing!! This version was like a live concert with lots of wit and sarcasm! The cast and dancers were fantastic. I definitely recommend!

Amazing. We have seen several productions of Joseph-and this was without question, the best. The narrator was amazing. The direction was fantastic--the character of each of the brothers was brought out in a unique way. They were all very funny. Such a pleasure to watch such a well put together production.

  • Ace Young: Pretty Abs, Pretty Terrible

by SadWatcher on 6/13/14Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

The ancillary cast was great -- some of the best brothers I've seen. Unfortunately, Ace Young was almost unwatchable as Joseph. As it was, I plugged my ears during his solos and managed to hone in on the only good part of his performance -- his perfect abs. Had it not been for those, the show would have been a complete travesty. Diana DeGarmo was passable as the narrator -- very strong in her lower range, but pretty shrill during the high stuff. Not my favorite tour of this show by a long shot.

  • Need stronger vocal leads to enunciate words

    by valleygirl14 on 6/13/14Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 2 out of 5

Saw this show before (years ago) at the Pantages with different company. It was FANTASTIC! Couldn't stop raving about it; the spoof, the song paradies, the sets, the actors' voices.......Now I brought my husband to this much awaited play; we were BOTH disappointed. The sets (high school sets are better) were low cost, the talent wasn't there; except for the OTHER brothers of Joseph & the father. They had stronger voices than the leads. Was SO looking forward to this & to love it- but it didn't happen. You need better talent- (especially in this talented mix of actors in LA).

I had a great time. Fun musical and great for families.

  • Didn't quite live up to my expectations

by tabbylvr on 6/12/14Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

I've always wanted to see Joseph but never had the chance to before. I know the soundtrack and could hardly wait to see it at the Pantages. Overall, I found it a bit cheesy and terribly overacted. Maybe it's just me because I'm older now. I still enjoyed watching it but wish I had gotten the tickets for cheap through Goldstar.

Overall I was underwhelmed with the vocals, especially Diana DeGarmo's.

  • Bible story without God?

    by Alexandra6611 on 6/11/14Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 1 out of 5

I am very sad to say that I went to this play thinking this would be a story on a biblical event, but it was not. This story is loosely based on the story of Joseph and it take advantage of the one sexual scene (Joseph is pursued by Potiphar's wife) was grossly overdone and very dirty Hollywood style for a family/bible story. The scene did not explain at all that Joseph was falsely accused and that being said it looks like he did have an affair/adulterous relation (both actors are under a sheet and are making it bounce as if sex is happening) which according to the Bible he did not. There was also no mention of God only to two mentions of the Bible and no scenes of Joseph praying or giving credit to God for his dreams and interpretations as he does in the bible. Disappointing! But as the story teaches God can turn something made to discredit Him to do His good work! It's all for His glory.

  • AWESOME MUSICAL

by lovemyrascals on 6/11/14Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

My family really loved Joseph, this is one of my boys favorite story in the bible, so it was awesome for them to see it live. They are 10 & 5, we all had a great time!! Loved seeing Ace and Diana together, loved when they sang together at the end!!

  • Joseph is worth seeing

by LABroadwayFan on 6/11/14Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

Overall a very enjoyable experience. Neither Diana DeGarmo nor Ace Young has a spectacular voice, but both are good performers. While I wasn't overly impressed with them vocally, they were good enough that it wasn't a distraction. Young was very animated and energetic and brought a great presence to the role of Joseph. The production was well-conceived and brought the story to life beautifully. A wonderful show, well-directed and choreographed.

  • A Mild Amusement

by MisterSecondNighter on 6/11/14Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

And I do mean mild. I've been told "Joseph..." started as a project Webber and Rice did in high school and based on what I saw, that seems about right. A slight story padded to within an inch of its life (most songs have about three endings, reminding me of the legendary James Brown shows in which he would finish, seemingly exhausted, be led off the stage by his team and then theatrically "break free" to come back and reprise the number) and featuring no memorable songs and one of the most manufactured act breaks I can remember, the production is saved by some wonderfully inventive staging, great use of multi-media enhancements and a talented and energetic cast who work their asses off. . Bottom line, If you're looking for depth and emotion, this ain't "Phantom." But if you want a light evening or better yet, a show that introduces theater to younger audiences in a fast paced, visually fun way, this is your show.

  • Joseph was horrible!!

by giddeon on 6/11/14Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 1 out of 5

I have been to many plays at the Pantages Theater but I must say that of all the plays I have seen this was the worst play of all. I had been looking forward to this play coming back after Donny Osmond performed in it however, I had no idea that it would be so boring and no story line other than singing thru the whole performance. I get it, it is a musical but I mean some dialog would have been nice regarding the bible story but tI felt there was no meaning behind the story (like Fiddler on the roof had meaning and singing) these singers were all so hyper and the voices were not all that great. I was totally disappointed along with my friends who were their for the first time. What a waste of $400.00. What a shame for such a good bible story. Obviously I was correct in my thinking since the theater was half empty that was a red flag.

I didn't care for the updates to the show and the deletion of "any dream will do" @ the beginning. the rest was fine, however, I did NOT care for ACE as the lead, I did NOT care for his voice or self promotion of his other music. I thought it was in poor taste. He has an odd quality to his voice and it did not work for me.

  • Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Tour

    by Kennylb2 on 6/11/14Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

Show was great. Plenty of energy and great music. Diana Degarmo was amazing as the narrator. Ace Young had his moments and sure did catch the ladies attention. Would recommend for sure.

  • High school quality

    by Emma7 on 6/11/14Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 2 out of 5

I love Andrew Lloyd Webber shows. This show was a poor representation of his work. It felt very amateur and low budget. My friends and I all felt we had seen a high school performance. Disappointing.

The performance was great and I like how they presented the story. I thought it was entertaining.

  • Joseph Was Just O.K.

by Terrischoice on 6/11/14Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

I've seen a production of Joseph at the Pantages back in the '90's. The sets were more elaborate, and the performances seemed more memorable. This production version seemed to lack a bigger budget. The sets were minimal, and were constantly being changed and arranged by the performers during the performance. At one point during a "family " song, I counted only 10 brothers. There should have been 11. Ace Young is a good singer, but I think the part of Joseph required a stronger voice
