Funny! Touching! Amazing! The actors were perfect as was the music. I will definitely recommend to friends.
What a spectacular show! It was a feast for the eyes as well as delicious musical experience for the soul. The talent of the narrator (Diana DeGarmo) and Joseph (Ace Young) was exceptional, and so wonderful to see American Idol contestants moving upward on to the BIG STAGE. The entire casting was superb! Bravo!
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is the best ever!!
Being a huge Idol fan it was great seeing Ace & Diana in the lead roles. Diana's voice was fantastic. Ace's a little weaker than I had hoped, but still great eye candy. I have seen the show several times as it is one of my favorites and some of the timely jokes and references worked beautifully. Overall I enjoyed the show very much.
This was my fourth time seeing "Joseph" . First with Michael Damian, then Donny Osmond and David Cassidy. I have never been disappointed! This is a happy, feel good show. Every one should see this in their lifetime!
I thought Ace did a really good job. I have seen this play more than 10 times and each time there is something different and very well done. The Big Miss here was NO KIDS. The children chorus adds so much to the songs in the production of this show. It was a shame they couldn't find 12 or more lovely little voices. I was puzzled at why Diana DeGarmo gave part of her narrative to other players. Her voice sounded as though she may have been sick or tired. I have liked her vocal in the past... this was forgettable. The production part of Canaan Days was a treat but where were their berets to "raise". The sets were interesting but I only really enjoyed when the background became part of the coat. I love Joseph so it is a no brainer that I would always recommend the show to friends and I would even see it again.
This was an updated version of the show. The last time I saw this was in 1993 when Donny Osmond was the title character. I like this format with a single narrator instead of a chorus of children. The singing was excellent. Diana DiGarmo and Ace Young were perfect for their roles. All the brothers were cast well. And the Pharoh was terrific. We took our two children (ages 10 and 5) and this kept them entertained from start to end. The props worked well. It did not need a lot of technical enhancements because the singing was so good. This is actually the second time I saw this production. The first time was in Chicago in March. The show in Los Angeles was stronger (even though it is the same cast).
Though the brothers in Joseph were exceptional, the two leads were forgettable. Having seen the musical twice in the 90s, my expectations were high. The LA and London productions had been the same - awesome talent, and outstanding sets and costumes. I couldn't wait to bring my sister and daughter. My daughter enjoyed it, she's 5 years old. No one else did. Ace has no stage presence, and the woman playing the narrator screeches instead of sings. It was 2 hours of pain. Except of course for the couple of musical numbers involving the brothers. There was a reason it was a hit in the 90s, don't change something that works!!
The updated staging was awesome. Both Diana and Ace were great too. It was such a fun day at the theatre and great for kids.
The Narrator, Diana DeGarmo, main character Joseph, Ace Young, and 11 brothers were immaculate singers. Every actor was real . The set is captivating, the music is timely (modern) and the actors are jolly. This combination makes this play a must see for all. Christian background or not. Simply amazing.
I took my two teenagers for a Sunday matinee. We all loved it. The production and cast were all fantastic. The music is so creative and fun.
Beautiful music and choreography and interesting lighting.
The singing was mediocre. The dancing was okay. But, really, Elvis? This was an episode of Glee ! Who did they convince to get on the stage at the Pantages? And what about the story line. Lost in obscurity. Positives: Set production was good. It didn't last too long.
This was an amazing revamped production of my favorite show. Every single voice was perfect, from the leads to the ensemble. Even the Pantages managed not to have any sound issues as we have experienced there many times. I highly recommend it. We stayed and met the cast at the stage door, they were so grateful and happy to be working on this show. So fun!
Great cast & vocals. All actors/singers are perfectly cast in this play. I am just surprised that the event is not sold out. A lot of empty seats in the mezzanine section.
I had seen this musical before, and I had liked it. When this rendition started I was concerned about some of the Non-Standard settings, but it really works. They have taken this musical to a new level.
I had known the music but never seen it. It's a little rickety as a show, but the husband-and-wife team who played the leads gave it their all. It was fun to think about TR and ALW creating this "hippie" musical in 1968 and what went through their minds. The dancing was terrific, and the songs endure...
I have seen this rock opera a number of times in the past and my kids were raised on the sound track. In this case, familiarity in no way bread contempt. From the opening notes to the closing triumph, this production was everything you could hope for a more. We had a great time and highly recommend grabbing a seat while the show is still in town!
I fell in love with JATATDC when a child and was so excited to take my family to experience for their first time (in Hollywood none the less). Unfortunately, due to this production my family did not catch the magic. The staging was poor, choreography sloppy, tried to add too many special effects that detracted from the story. Diana made a great, natural narrator. Ace was a happy Joseph who did not seem to mind being thrown into jail or sold into slavery--thus losing any connectability to the audience or story. Overall a fun experience but have seen better productions of Joseph at community theatre
This was a wonderful, fun production of Joseph, I loved every minute of it! My son played Simeon in high school in 2003, and this brought back all the memories and songs as if it were yesterday. Loved it! Might see it again!
