Play was fast moving with wonderful energy from cast - and audience!
We had a great experience from beginning to end. This show was high energy and innovative.
I'm a huge Andrew Lloyd Weber fan so this play is thoroughly wonderful to me. The cast does a phenomenal job - there's not a disappointment with any role. I like how fun this play is and the energy of the performers is incredible!
We had good seats but we could not understand the woman who was supposedly telling the story. I would not go again,
Saw Joseph 9-10 years ago or there about. That one was a bigger production. But the music here was GREAT.
The modifications of this classic show were great! The energy was intense and the dancing was unbelievable! If you are an American Idol fan this show is for you. Otherwise it was a little too catered to these leads being married... I wouldn't think Joseph and the Narrator would normally do duets. I feel that took away from the show and it was a show for Ace Young. Blah.
Perhaps it is a trend, but when can we get back to singing, rather than shouting in musicals? So many of them, including this, especially in the role of the narrator, scream the songs, with little change of dynamics, or emotional interpretation. There were parts I enjoyed, but the continual screetching of the narrator set my teeth on edge!
I took my 13 year old step-daughter..her first show. It was a good first show..great music and humor.. If you think you might like this show...see it..was worth it!
What a wonderful version of "Joseph" this was! Exquisite music, voices, acting, staging, choreography, and humor! This show had it all. Thank you to cast and crew for a superb show!
Very entertaining and fun. The special effects were amazing.Would highly recommend.
Cast was good! Choreography was great ! Scenery and special effects were excellent!
I was quite disappointed in the play. I did not like some of the portrayals being so "jazzed up" and I did not feel the portrayal of the infidelity with the kings wife was appropriate content for families bringing young children or preteens/teens was necessary for them to witness acted out. I was quite dismayed at it all. Sorry I spent $150 for me and my husband to see this.
First off, let me say that I did enjoy the show but sometimes, it felt like a high school musical. The costumes were so so. Ace, who played Joseph was wearing running shoes instead of sandals as were some of the other actors. I figured since it was a biblical story, it would have at least had authentic looking costumes. Diana Degarmo was great as the narrator. She has a beautiful stage voice. Ace has a beautiful melodic voice but sometimes when he went to belt out a tune, he sounded like he had just sucked on a helium balloon. The ensemble singers and dancers looked like they were having a lot of fun which made it fun to watch them.
I loved the touring company of "Joseph." The production was seamless, the staging was clever. The actors all seemed to be having a great time. I would have sat through it a second time. I love Andrew Lloyd Weber's music. I've been a fan of Ace Young since his American Idol days. His voice was maybe slightly disappointing, but he otherwise he played the part well, and his awesome body more than made up for it! He and Diana played off of one another well. I highly recommend this performance.
I took my three girls (14, 12, 8) and we all loved it! The plate scene during "Those Canaan Days" was terrific. Any my kids loved the Pharoah. Overall, very enjoyable show, I'd recommend it to anyone.
I've seen many casts perform this wonderful show, but you need very strong performances by the Narrator and Joseph. Sadly, the 2 leads were weak with voices that were not fit for a Broadway-style show. I actually felt sorry for the company as many of the supporting players were much stronger than the leads.
"Joseph" kept my attention with great voices, amazing costumes and sets, and non-stop dancing. I loved every minute, especially "Elvis" (Pharoah) and the Cabaret number. Don't miss it!
Terrible casting as neither narrator or lead (her husband) were very good singers. He was unable to project his voice over the orchestra and she was squeeking on high notes. The review in Saturdays Democrat and Chronicle was right on. Visibility in this theatre awful and we were in 5th row.
A dynamite light show, amazing projections and a hardworking ensemble cast can not save the show from a lead that can't sing and another that can mainly sing in a different genre not represented in the script. Wife turned to me half way through the second song and said "He can't sing?" and my wife is not a big stickler for musicality. The brothers steal the show in the sense that they can not only jump around the stage but also sing. That is, when the choreography is not having them stack and re-stack what appears to be the shipping containers for the shows soft-goods in various places around the stage. The set design is very sparse. The same 6 pieces of set get stacked in different configurations for each number. There is really just one backdrop involving three sheets that get used throughout the entire show. It looks like this entire show should fit into a single truck not including the sound and lighting gear. The lightshow was fantastic. I have had an interest in theater and disco lightning since a small child and this was epic. Also, probably unnecessary to the story. The sound was decent although it seemed a little lacking in mid-range. The added gags in this revival are kind of funny but the music behind these new pieces definitely sounds added and somewhat out of the character of the show. The musical presentation lacked polish around the edges. It sounded like the conductor was rushing from one piece to the next. Even though there wasn't a lot of applause generally it would be good to leave a pause in between numbers so that each new piece of music has space to breathe. There are far better touring shows on the circuit (Book of Mormon/Beauty and the Beast). Even the touring version of Phantom is pretty decent this year.
We have seen many Amazing shows at the RBTL, however this one was just so-so. For the price of the tickets ($150 for two tx after taxes, etc), we were expecting to be blown away, and unfortunately we were not. Additionally, the whole story was hard to follow - probably because the narrator (who did have a beautiful voice btw) SUNG everything, so if every word wasn't enunciated, you were lost. There was a lot of talent here, but the show itself was really blah, unfortunately.
