  • Brothers Band Together!

by LaurafromPanora on 11/30/14Des Moines Performing Arts - Civic Center - Des MoinesRating: 4 out of 5

I had the pleasure of attending this show two nights. The best parts were the brothers' songs! They did such a fabulous job and the choreography was phenomenal!!! Ace did a fine job, but could have been a stronger singer. The narrator did a very good job of articulating the words. I could understand her 99% of the time.

  • Joseph motivates "The King!"

by Lemmey on 11/27/14Des Moines Performing Arts - Civic Center - Des MoinesRating: 4 out of 5

I enjoyed the production and the reasonably accurate portrayal of the story of Joseph joined to a modern setting. All the characters were good, especially that of "The King" of Egypt! The volume was too loud!

My mom and I enjoyed the play especially the dancing! It was funny and entertaining. It followed the Biblical story of Joseph fairly well. We would recommend it to others.

One of the best. Loved the fast-pace and high-energy of the performers.

This was a fantastic show! We really enjoyed it and raved about it at church later that evening with the music director.

  • Joseph - beyond the pale!

by Solopilot on 11/25/14Des Moines Performing Arts - Civic Center - Des MoinesRating: 1 out of 5

My husband and I have seen this play many times and have loved the music, energy, and story. Unfortunately, this production was very poorly done and a disappointment in so many ways. We were particularly offended by Potipher's wife chasing Joseph in lewd and vulgar ways. Then, they portrayed Joseph as giving in to her desires under the sheet. They have missed the whole point! Joseph was innocent but went to jail anyway. (See Genesis.) Joseph and the Narrator may be happily married and enjoying the tour. But, their voices were wispy and not strong enough to carry it off. Throughout most of the play, it seemed that most of the soloists were trying too hard to be clever and hip. What a shame.

  • Entertaining, but...

by mmdp8340 on 11/25/14Des Moines Performing Arts - Civic Center - Des MoinesRating: 4 out of 5

The show is high energy and very entertaining. However, my friend and I both had trouble listening to Diana DeGarmo's voice without wanting to cover our ears. And Ace was nice to look at.

  • Joseph was Amazing!

This is my 4th time seeing this show. Still love it! I brought 4 generations to the show this time. My daughter was part of the children's chorus back in the 90's when the show was at the Civic Center. This time we brought her children, who loved it too!

this is the 3rd time I've seen "Joseph" in a span of many years. All productions have been memorable but this one was EXCEPTIONAL! I wish I could see it again.

We enjoyed the show. Our grand daughter was "spellbound" and while it wasn't quite the same as the Donny Osmond production, we highly recommend seeing this show.

  • Made me smile!

Love this show - great cast, especially the brothers.

  • Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

by nickljjj on 11/24/14Des Moines Performing Arts - Civic Center - Des MoinesRating: 3 out of 5

While we thoroughly enjoyed this event we did decide that it was a little hard to follow when the narrator sang everything and there was no dialogue to speak of. If it had been a show that we knew the story it may have helped. We mostly guessed what the words were and it worked but took a little something away from enjoying when we had to concentrate on the words so much.

  • The Amazing Dreamcoat was truly amazing!

by JosephJunkie on 11/24/14Des Moines Performing Arts - Civic Center - Des MoinesRating: 4 out of 5

All of the familiar songs we know and love were enthusiastically presented by a talented cast. The technicolor dreamcoat was truly amazing. It became a part of the colorful set, and was like nothing we'd ever seen. Everyone will leave this show singing a happy tune!

  • Surprisingly Disappointed

by NotAGreatShow on 11/24/14Des Moines Performing Arts - Civic Center - Des MoinesRating: 2 out of 5

Poor casting. Despite the absolutely phenomenal rendition of "Those Cannon Days," The rest of the cast was poor. Joseph, though clearly putting his all into the performance, was cast on his looks and definitely not his voice. I could hear the audience around me groan when he sang. The female lead did a passable job. The Pharaoh was very funny, but was incomprehensible when he sang. Finally, the production seemed cheap. Things were cardboard cutout and plainly colored. For being a Broadway show, it had the look of local theater. If you have seen the show with Donny Osmond years ago, be prepared to be a bit let down.

We enjoyed the performance. It was just a fun event. The narrator has a wonderful voice and I could understand the words of the song. Joseph not so good until they changed mikes.

I took my youngest daughter to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as her big Christmas present this year. When she was younger we would rent the DVD version with Donny Osmond as Joseph...if I had a dollar for everytime we watched it-I would have a nice little savings account now. LOL! We went to our local AppleBees for dinner first and then it was onto the show! We both had high expections and Joseph delivered! The cast was wonderful and the set was great too! We really were wowed by the images on the backgrounds and by all of the talent in every format of the show! The only little issue I personally had was that I couldnt hear all of what Joseph was saying. (But-I am a bit hearing impaired in one ear) Maybe they could turn his mike up just a little bit? Otherwise-Bravo!!! Thank you Civic Center for always bringing in the wonderful shows!
