    Truly Enjoyable!

by BRGma on 10/10/15Baton Rouge River Center Theater - Baton Rouge

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was an excellent show. It was funny and happy, the music was wonderful, and the technical lighting was fantastic. Everyone of all ages will enjoy it -- truly a good family show!

I had just seen this play in April at the Saenger, but liked it so much I had to see it again.

This is a show I've loved since I was little and it lived up to my expectations. Great choreography, the narrator was amazing.

    Joseph could have been better

by PattyGR on 10/15/14DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

Sometimes it was hard to understand the words they were singing. they were not clear. maybe the sound equipment. I was in the 2rd row. I did not care for the scenery. Too plain. Nothing like the original scenery. it was the biggest disapointment of the show. This has always been one of my favorites but when Donnie osmond did it. It was done too modern.

    New production of Joseph ATATD

by MetroBill on 10/13/14DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

Fortunately, the music was not changed. The production itself was changed so where Jacob's family was set in contemporary times, then the costumes were replaced with robes. However, several of the characters still had contemporary short haircuts when they went back a long time ago. The leads had weak voices for a large auditorium. And, the lead playing Joseph spent too much time throwing his hair back. The person playing the Pharaoh was a sad resemblance to Elvis. His pitch of his voice was too high and he lacked the Elvis charisma. Plus, he was too skinny and without the requisite hair size. In addition, there were no kids to whom the narrator would tell the story.

    Fun and Forgettable

by GRChelseaFan on 10/9/14DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

My wife and I attended 10/3/2014. We had a good time. The show was far from sold out. Afterward, everyone sort of filed out talking about other things. The show was a lot of fun and I'm glad we went, but if Joseph comes to town again, I think I'll pass. I've seen Phantom, Miss Saigon (twice) and Les Miserables (twice). This is not the sort of musical you go to see twice.

    Great cast

by Highwatch on 10/9/14DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

I really liked the cast, they were talented and personable. They really seemed to connect with the audience and that made for a fun experience. Not a big fan of the actual musical and that sort of surprised me. I have been to a lot of shows and this was always on the wishlist, but I left feeling a little meh. Again, this was an incredible cast and they were entertaining, I just wish they had better material.

    Very good cast

by moonshadows on 10/8/14DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

Thoroughly enjoyed the singing and dancing. Elvis Pharoah provides good comic relief. Truly amazing dancers. Stage sets and costumes a little disappointing. 15+ years ago, I saw a production in same venue with more sets and dazzling costumes. This version relies on projection images and spotlights on drapery backdrop with minimal solid sets. Affect is sparse. Energy does abound especially with the finale. However, most songs are just narrative. Any Dream Will Do is the only true song and comes at the end......beautiful, but show could use a couple more hits. Worth seeing for the first time.

    Joseph had its moments, but

by TryAgainGR on 10/8/14DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

Overall this was the poorest rendition of the Joseph of the four times I have seen the play. The ensemble was quite good, but the leads lacked presence. Some of the modernization did not help, but left you scratching your head. Not having the students (traditional in the past) was a loss.

    Mediocre

by Blanzyk on 10/7/14DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

After enjoying this same show in the 90's at the Fox Theatre in Detroit featuring Donny Osmond, I thought I'd take my daughter so she could experience "Joseph" herself. We were so excited! Unfortunately after the first few songs' worth of average vocals, weak digital sets and lack of artistic inspiration, we left the theatre early. So Disappointed we spent over a hundred on seats! Sorry, in my opinion, about all this show has going for it are its dance moves.

    Worth every penny

by JUSTKL on 10/7/14DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

Joseph was jam-packed with energy and fun. I definitely recommend this to every age level and group as the whole theatre was on its feet by the end of the show. Musically exhilarating, dynamic, pulsing, moving, and filled with gorgeous sets, costumes, actors, and movement. Would go again in a heartbeat.

    Worth seeing

by musicalluvr on 10/7/14DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

The DeVos theater was really nice! The performance had definite ups and downs. The choreography was excellent! The harmonies were great. Ace as Joseph was pretty weak. Especially when he was happy, he sounded squeaky. We really missed the children being narrated to. Weren't really sure what the point of having a narrator was if she wasn't narrating to anyone in particular. Really disappointed in the way this version of the play showed Joseph going to bed with Potiphar's wife. That was a complete let-down. That was not how the story goes, and it makes no sense feeling sorry for him going to jail when he wasn't innocent. Really liked the "Cannan Days" scene! That is one that you usually sleep through and this was a fantastic rendition! All-in-all worth seeing. Everyone was leaving in a great mood, singing and dancing. That's what the theater is all about!
