Well worth the money
by ThirdProductionAttended on 1/21/16Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 4 out of 5We thoroughly enjoyed the production of Joseph at the Tennessee Theatre. Very well done!
General comment:
This is the third production of Joseph that we've seen - the two others being in Southern California, including a production at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood.
We've been debating whether or not we liked this production the best. We waffle back and forth between this production being our favorite, or a close second. (By the way, don't believe everything you've heard about Hollywood and the Kodak Theater. The production of Joseph that we saw there was absolutely terrible, and cost us three times as much.)
Pro:
- An obviously talented cast and crew. We would think it would be extremely difficult for a traveling cast and crew, who are only in one location for a couple days, and who live in and endless variety of hotel rooms, to stay enthusiastic and motivated. Kudos to this cast and crew. They put on an excellent production.
Con:
- We understand that the production of Joseph has never claimed to be an accurate depiction of the life of Jacob's family, and Joseph's in particular, as recorded in the Old Testament, but we were very disappointed that the script for this production was tweaked to show Joseph being thrown in jail for being caught in bed with Potiphar's wife. That's a definite contradiction of the Biblical account, and in our opinion negatively impacted the story line, particularly for children who were in attendance. That tweak was totally unnecessary.
- We're still trying to figure out the purpose for the opening scene, which depicted the current day and age, prior to them transitioning into the story of Joseph.
