About

Everything in Acclaimed Singer, Songwriter, & Pianist Jon McLaughlin's life makes its way into his music, whether he's conscious of it or not. The artist, raised in Indiana and based in Nashville, brings all of his experiences and beliefs into each song he creates, something that is especially true now that he's the father of two young girls.

Jon released his debut album, 'Indiana', in 2007, attracting fans with his heartfelt, hook-laden songwriting and impassioned delivery. He's released six full-lengths in the years since and revealed a true evolution in both his piano playing and singing. He's played shows with Billy Joel, Kelly Clarkson and Adele, collaborated with longtime friend Sara Bareilles, co-written with Demi Lovato and even performed at the Academy Awards in 2008.

Jon's album, 'Like Us', dropped in October of 2015 and he spent the past few years touring extensively before heading back into his Nashville studio to work on new music. Jon released a Christmas EP in 2017 titled 'Red & Green' with two originals and his take on a few holiday classics. In November of 2018 Jon released his album 'Angst & Grace' which features 'Still My Girl' written for his youngest daughter.

In Fall of 2019 Jon released an instrumental piano album titled 'MOOD'. This record demonstrates Jon's artistry and captivates his talent as a pianist. In May 2020 the second edition of the project was released entitled 'MOOD II'. Jon wrapped up 2020 with the release of his Christmas EP 'Christmas Time' before putting out his most recent full length album 'All The Things I Say To Myself' with immediate fan favorite songs 'A Breakup Song' & 'Outta My Head'.

As with everything he does, Jon's goal is to create connections. He wants to translate his experiences and ideas into music that reaches fans everywhere. His passion for music and playing is evident in each note he plays.

    Magical Hands

by Anonymous on 9/10/14House of Blues - Dallas

I have been a fan of Jon McLaughlin for years, but never had the opportunity to see him live. Because the show is just him and his piano, the songs are more raw and less "produced" than the album versions. The best part of that is seeing his incredible piano skills in action. It was incredible!

Great show! Awesome interaction with the audience, a few members of which were slightly obnoxious but whom he handled with class. Amazing vocal talent and one of the best pianists I've ever witnessed. A must-see!

Talented and Adorable. Who could ask for more?

by AmySupFan on 10/1/13Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

Jon McLaughlin and Joe Paulson were amazing. Both are piano virtuosos. They are both amazing singers and the talent just oozes from their pores. I saw Jon McLaughlin on The Rock Boat earlier this year and was hooked. His songs are inspirational. He does a great cover of Piano Man by Billy Joel. The song that was amazing was the song he wrote for his daughter. He's personable and tells cute stories before songs. Such talent. He should be more popular than he is. A great time of great music.

Worth standing for two hours to watch live.

Second time I've seen him live. Makes his music unforgettable. He and his fellow musicians are always reminders of how special live performances are and why it's worth the effort, time, and money to be there.

    Fantasic voice and piano skills

    by KRad502 on 10/15/12The Basement - Columbus

I am not a fan of live music and rarely go to music events even if it's just to be social, but Jon McLaughlin is good enough to make me look forward to a show of his for weeks. I have a weakness for crisp, clean and clear voices. His is my favorite voice to listen to over and over. I literally can't get enough and am always thrilled to be in the same room with such an amazingly talented musician. His piano skills do something to my knees that make it hard to stand up for the show. Awesome

    Incredible Talent

by Jetsfan12345 on 6/26/12Gramercy Theater - New York City

Saw Jon perform at Gramercy Theater in NYC last week. Highly recommend it. The man is an unbelievable talent. He's a genius on the keyboard - including both intimate classical stylings, as well as attacking the keys like a full-fledged rocker. He throws himself fully into his playing. Vocally, his tone is great, and his range is fantastic. His band is also very dynamic and they interact extremely well together. The concert has more of a rock feel than his albums (they seem to have a bit more of a pop feel), which I personally loved. Jon's personality really shines through in his performance. He's very energetic, but also doesn't lose the intimate feel and personality that make his songs what they are. His anecdotes and humor also add to the greatness of his show, and really reflect what he puts into his brilliant songwriting.

    Jon McL, always amazing

by maryrose8 on 6/25/12Brighton Music Hall - Boston

Jon's voice, music, band and presence are a must see...over and over again. He sounds amazing live. I love that he rocks out with his band but also performs a few solo songs (just his voice and the piano). Beautiful. Moving. Fun. Love him.

    Amazing Talent

by ct05 on 6/25/12Brighton Music Hall - Boston

This was my third Jon McLaughlin concert - second with the full band - and once again I left amazed. The openers, Bobby Stamper (Jon's guitarist) and Mikey Wax were both solid but Jon stole the show. He played a great mix of songs off the new album and a few of his "classics". Watching him play the piano is incredible - so much passion and energy, whether it was a more uptempo song like "Industry" or a ballad like "Indiana". The venue wasn't bad. The small size meant that it was easy to get close to the band and have a great view - and the sound was good too. My only complaint was that I felt like the set could have been longer! Overall a great show and will definitely be going to many more.

Jon McLaughlin puts his heart into his music, very passionate while playing piano, and has a great talented band backing him. He should be bigger, and will be. If you have a chance to see him, even if you don't know his music, you will be entertained. He's also very humorous and easy on the eyes.

    Great venue and great music!

by Cardsfan4ever on 6/15/1220th Century Theater - Cincinnati

Jon is a fantastic performer, and this evening proved it. From the fantastic opening singers to the last solo notes on the piano by Jon, it was a unforgettable night of great music. The venue was small, which created a very intimate concert setting, a nice touch to some of the larger venues I've been to. Although the stage was a little small and the drum was pretty close to us (causing it to be a little loud), I thought the venue was perfect. Very neat and historic.

    The Definition of Talent

by gobucky on 6/12/12Vogue Theatre - Indianapolis

Have been a fan of Jon's music since living in Minneapolis and hearing him on a podcast of "up and coming" artists in the early 2000s. The show at the Vogue was my first time hearing him live. I knew I wouldn't be disappointed but was absolutely blown away by his performance. He engaged the crowd, transitioned songs amazingly and played a few old tunes. I wished the show could have gone on all night.

    by MG24 on 11/30/11Vogue Theatre - Indianapolis

Jon McLaughlin was amazing, as usual. An incredibly talented and very energetic musician who definitely entertains at his shows. The Vogue is a great venue and being a "home" show for Jon McLaughlin made it more amazing. A Jon McLaughlin show is not to be missed.
