About

John Mayer is a man of contradictions. He’s an international pop star, but also an authentic bluesman endorsed by some of the genre’s biggest legends (B.B. King, Eric Clapton). He's famous for dating some of the entertainment industry's most beautiful women, but dislikes the red carpet and lives on a ranch in Montana.  Mayer is known for his hushed-acoustic sound, but has collaborated with hip-hop giants Kanye West, Common, and Frank Ocean. Among the contradictions, however, exists a through line: Mayer’s prowess as a singer-songwriter and guitarist has remained a constant, earning him 7 Grammys and over 20 million album sales worldwide.  After a series of granuloma-related throat surgeries forced him to take a complete vocal break in 2012, Mayer is fully recovered and back on tour in 2013 –  fans can catch him LIVE in concert in support of his sixth studio album Paradise Valley, named after the site of his new Montana home.

Born and raised in Connecticut, Mayer took up the guitar at 13, inspired by the music of Stevie Ray Vaughn and Michael J. Fox’s epic guitar performance as Marty McFly in Back to the Future.  After briefly attending Boston’s Berklee College of Music, Mayer dropped out to pursue his passion, and quickly attracted the attention of label execs with a March 2000 appearance at South By Southwest.  His official 2001 debut Room For Squares went multi-platinum, and earned him his first Grammy – Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “Your Body Is a Wonderland.”  Mayer followed up in 2003 with Heavier Things, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and earned him two more Grammys, including Song of the Year for “Daughters.” 2006’s Continuum, Mayer’s third album, highlighted his blues sensibilities and landed him another Grammy, this time for Best Pop Vocal Album.

Dead & Company’s summer tour runs from May 31st to July 6th.

    Not what I expected

by Jayner on 2/15/10The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills

I was a disappointed John Mayer did not mix more old with new songs. i know artists try to promote new songs but you need to keep your fans interested too. The reason we come is to hear the old music. Still John Mayer is a talented song writer and musician.

    Mayer Depressing; FRANTI ROCKS

by Resterbeckwith on 2/15/10The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills

I would HIGHLY SUGGEST Michael Franti & Spearhead in concert for the whole family; 2 through 70! As for John Mayer, he's a great artist, but I think I would rather curle up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and watch him for free on HBO (after losing boyfreind, my cat, my job, and being ran over by a train). Be sure to have a dagger handy for knife to chest after experiencing the depression (which is strangely how I felt after being in the same room with him). Franti emulates sunshine and goodvibes, Mayer is like an undertaker. Need I say more?

2 Hours With John Mayer Is Never Enough.

by JJM3 on 2/15/10The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills

JM never fails to impress me with his musical talent and I will always find enough money to go see him at least once each tour. I thought JM performed very much so up to his standards and beyond. Thanks for coming up to Michigan, John.

    John Mayer is a god!!!!!!

by JohnnysLove on 2/14/10St Pete Times Forum - Tampa

John Mayer is a genius, much better live than recorded!!!! Even though our seats were high up they still rocked! Michael Franti and Spearhead were awesome, I would definitely pay money to see them as headliners! The venue was great and parking was close and easy, well worth the $12. I will definitely be in attendance from now on when John Mayer comes to Tampa!

    Always the performer

by megkay85 on 2/14/10The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills

I always enjoy every John Mayer show I attend. This time it was no exception. He is always the performer and i deffinately got my moneys worth. The music is always amazing. I love the fact that he is so personable with the audience and really tries his best to reel everyone in and revel in the moment with him. And he is funny as hell which is an added bonus. I would attend every concert he has if I were independently wealthy...which unfortunately... I am not. Kudos John Mayer, another job well done. P.S. Michael Franti kicked some ass too! I loved the vibe and his music!

John Mayer was great, but is a Tool!

by jacobs71 on 2/14/10The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills

John Mayer put on a fantastic show at The Palace of Auburn Hills. The stage set/scenery was fantastic with a light-up screen in the back for making John and band visible to the entire arena. :o) The set list was great including covers of "SOS" by The Police and "Sledgehammer" by Peter Gabriel. He played songs from all of his albums, but neglected his two biggest hits in "Your Body is a Wonderland" and "Daughters."

John Mayer - good but not great

by Anonymous on 2/14/10Sommet Center - Nashville

In regards to his guitar playing skills, John Mayer was wonderfully talented, as always. In regards to him talking to and engaging with the crowd... not so much. With his personal events which recently happened i.e. the Rolling Stone and Playboy tell all interview, I'm surprised Mr. Mayer never played his song, "My Stupid Mouth". As he played throughout the night, you sensed the that something else was on his mind and as a paying crowd member I could have used more focus and engagement on the audience.

    absolutely amazing!

by johnmayerfan on 2/14/10The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills

This was by far the best concert I have ever been to, and I have been to my fair share of concerts. His voice and guitar playing were flawless. He actually talked to the crowd for a while between songs which was really cool. He's hilarious! Michael Franti and his band were really good, too. It was a perfect match for a concert because Michael Franti was really upbeat and high energy and John was mellow. He didn't play Your Body is a Wonderland, but I think he's played that enough in my life. Lots of songs from his new album but some of old ones, too.

    John Mayer... off the SCALE!!!!!

    by DocHollywood160 on 2/14/10Sommet Center - Nashville

Just off the scale... way off the scale! He was absolutely incredible. You know you have arrived when you have so many hit songs that you can not fit them into a two and a half hour concert! The most incredible experience I ever had was seeing Duane Allman and the Allman Brothers live at the Omni in Atlanta, GA back in the summer of 1970! Seeing John Mayer last night brought me back to that feeling one has when they watch a master at his best! John Mayer truly has no equal given what can be accomplished with one's gift of talent, their creative ability, their love of MUSIC, and their innate drive to go way beyond what no one else could even achieve! Seeing him live will remain, just as in seeing Duane Allman nearly 4 decades ago, one of my most memorable experiences.... Ever!!!!!!

The crowd was great and the songs were awesome. I was hoping that the concert was longer, but it was still a great performance.

    Awesome Concert

by boujasmom on 2/14/10The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills

Amazing talent -- he is one with the guitar. We were in awe. Gravity was spectacular and really stood out as my most memorable part of the concert. He is an extremely gifted entertainer. He was humble and connected with his audience on all levels. This is the third time I've seen him perform in the Detroit area. I first saw him at Meadowbrook on his first tour years ago in the second row and I told everyone that he was going to make it big. I'd love that opportunity to see him in concert that close again...he has really grown as an artist. Was I bothered by his Playboy interview -- not really. The man lives his life under a microscope...I sure there are things we have all said or done that we regret, but fortunately the entire world doesn't find out about it. The man and his music.....simply amazing.

JOHN MAYER and MICHAEL FRANTI ARE LEGIT!

by kmccue on 2/14/10Sommet Center - Nashville

This show was amazing!! Michael Franti and Spearhead rocked the stage and were a fabulous opening act. They were exciting to watch and really got the crowd energized. They were a perfect lead way into John Mayer, who is the love of my life. John is an EXTREMELY talented guitarist and singer/songwriter. His music speaks to people in a way some can't. His on stage apology was epic and I feel honored to have been in the crowd to witness it. People make mistakes and say stupid things, for him to take time out of his work and make a sincere apology I think is truly respectable. I would recommend people of all ages to go to his concert at least once, he puts on an amazing amazing performance that you will never forget.

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh - this was great!

by kimmerkss on 2/14/10The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills

John Mayer was awesome and unbelievable. He sounded just as good onstage as he does on my iPod. Guitar playing skills were amazing. So glad we went and would love to see it all over again. Opening act was Michael Franti and Spearhead and like John Mayer said they are "audible sunshine."

    John Mayer was soulful!

by BMACW on 2/14/10Sommet Center - Nashville

This was my first John Mayer concert, and I was not disappointed! I am a music lover of all sorts and have been to more concerts than I can even try to count. John has a very soulful presence about him. Even if you couldn't hear him, you can tell just by watching him play that he truly feels the music. It's a part of him, he gets it. That is something that I don't see in many of the artists anymore. One of my all time favorite guitarists, and one that I rank at the top is Eric Clapton. Young he may be, but I rank John Mayer right up there with him. Whether it be a slow song, a bluesy song, or a rockin' one, you're sure to be moved, enjoying yourself - enjoying life, and temporarily forgetting about all other worries you may have while he's playing. And, not to mention, he's easy on the eyes. I know that I would go on the road and work for him, no matter how low I ranked on the totem pole, if it meant the opportunity of witnessing someone who truly loves what they do every night.
