About

John Mayer is a man of contradictions. He’s an international pop star, but also an authentic bluesman endorsed by some of the genre’s biggest legends (B.B. King, Eric Clapton). He's famous for dating some of the entertainment industry's most beautiful women, but dislikes the red carpet and lives on a ranch in Montana.  Mayer is known for his hushed-acoustic sound, but has collaborated with hip-hop giants Kanye West, Common, and Frank Ocean. Among the contradictions, however, exists a through line: Mayer’s prowess as a singer-songwriter and guitarist has remained a constant, earning him 7 Grammys and over 20 million album sales worldwide.  After a series of granuloma-related throat surgeries forced him to take a complete vocal break in 2012, Mayer is fully recovered and back on tour in 2013 –  fans can catch him LIVE in concert in support of his sixth studio album Paradise Valley, named after the site of his new Montana home.

Born and raised in Connecticut, Mayer took up the guitar at 13, inspired by the music of Stevie Ray Vaughn and Michael J. Fox’s epic guitar performance as Marty McFly in Back to the Future.  After briefly attending Boston’s Berklee College of Music, Mayer dropped out to pursue his passion, and quickly attracted the attention of label execs with a March 2000 appearance at South By Southwest.  His official 2001 debut Room For Squares went multi-platinum, and earned him his first Grammy – Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “Your Body Is a Wonderland.”  Mayer followed up in 2003 with Heavier Things, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and earned him two more Grammys, including Song of the Year for “Daughters.” 2006’s Continuum, Mayer’s third album, highlighted his blues sensibilities and landed him another Grammy, this time for Best Pop Vocal Album.

Dead & Company’s summer tour runs from May 31st to July 6th.

John Mayer was awesome! Michael Franti went a little long as an opener for my taste. Just wasn't that into his set.

    John was awesome!!!

by shepmom on 2/16/10The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills

My daughter and I saw JM when he was at the Palace back in 2006, but I have to say he really out did himself. He has grown as a perfromer so much sense then. He is so much more comfortable interacting with the audience and he looked like he was actually having fun! We had a great time. I also really appreciate that he keeps the ticket prices down. It makes if affordable to take your kids.

    John Mayer does it again!

by jessesouthfl on 2/15/10BankAtlantic Center - Sunrise

This is my second time seeing John Mayer live and I've got to say that he's blown me away yet again. I absolutely love his deep and soulful songs, and I enjoy them even more when he sings them live. My only complaints is that he could have sung more of his old songs and also that his opening act did not appeal to me (or most other JM fans for that matter) and was on for 1 hour. Aside from those two minor issues, the concert was amazing. John did his usual long guitar-only solos in between songs which I find to be quite enjoyable. But of course I enjoyed his singing much more, and he sure did plenty of singing. He pretty much played all of his new album with the exception of 2-4 songs, and I actually gained more appreciation for these new songs after hearing them live. Now I love them just as much as I do his old music. I will definitely go see him again live whenever he comes back to south FL, and I suggest you to do the same. ;)

    John Mayer is AMAZING!

by JMLOVE on 2/15/10The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills

I have never been to a better concert than the John Mayer featuring Michael Franti and Spearhead. The artists were wonderful live! They had great, soulful voices. Furthermore, they were very engaging with the audience. Michael Franti came out into the audience and John Mayer did an awesome job of incoorporating the location of the concert into the song. For example, he substitued New York City for Motor City in the song "Who Says". Also, he told funny jokes and introduced the songs very nicely.

    Great show!

by MaryAnnWestlandMI on 2/15/10The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills

John looked good, sounded great, mellow, but still rockin'. My friend and I loved the show -- the evening just went by too fast even though he played for quite a while. I've seen John many times and can't wait to see him again -- he's so amazing live.

    Always a good concert

    by Minerv2 on 2/15/10BankAtlantic Center - Sunrise

John Mayer always provides a great concert. I have seen him four times and this was no different from the rest... incredible!!! He played a lot of new stuff this time, and I always like to hear the good stuff that got an artist to this point. But the new stuff was quite good.

The show was so amazing! We were pretty far back but still had an awesome view, the huge screen definitely helped. The opener for John Mayer wasn't that exciting. I wanted someone who would be more along the kind of music John Mayer plays, even if it was just an acoustic set. Instead we got some crazy, loud, kinda funny but hard to take seriously, rapper. Michael Franti? Not a fan. However, John Mayer made up for it completely!!! Everyone should go see him before they die!!!

the show started on time with a "back up band" that lasted an hour and a half. John Mayer didn't start until after 9:30 and ended without playing the big hit your body is a wonderland. he finished around 11, which was just too long and too late. the first band should have lasted a half hour, max. his first songs were quite slow, didn't pick up until half way through. I would only see him again if he was the only perfomer and it was not at the Palace.

    What an experience!

by donnu on 2/15/10Air Canada Centre - Toronto

The show was great! Some of the songs he played just sounded soooo good and just left you standing in awe wondering what hit you. Two of those were heartbreak Warfare and Assassin. Both were very very well done with amazing music, lights and background picture. He was in a great mood for the concert and was very into it. He did an impromptu rap section which goes to prove how multi-talented he is. He plays the guitar like it's part of his hand. I would love to hear him play Heartbreak Warfare or Assassin again!

Great exposure for Franti. It's about time!!!!

by StAnn on 2/15/10Air Canada Centre - Toronto

There is nothing like the Michael Franti and Spearhead experience. I took my 3 teenagers (all but one had seen Michael before) and I wish we had been able to get floor tickets becasue you really need the floor for all the dancing/ jumping. If you ever have the oppurtunity to go to PTTP (Power to the Peaceful Festival) in San Francisco, do it. Not being familiar with Mayer's music was like opening a birthday present. He's a very gifted singer/guitarist (I love the way he plays guitar!) and I really like his sense of humour and his incredible band. The biggest surprise? I had no idea these guys played/toured with him. Holy crap!

    John Mayer= Amazing!

by whatthecuss1016 on 2/15/10The Palace of Auburn Hills - @ Detroit, MI city of cool-a** people

This concert was the icing on my JM ipod/car ride moments cake. For me, JM is the artist that can best "vivify all in experience that most deeply engages [my] intellect and [my] heart..." (Annie Dillard). Sentimentality aside, this is a must, must, must^3 experience for any John Mayer fan! Crowd Etiquette Note----The cold silver things that quanitfy space in order to affix a price AREN'T meant to occupied throughout such an awesome concert! Show some love :)

    Worth every penny spent

by alphabetsoupp on 2/15/10The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills

The concert was amazing, definitely one of the best shows I've seen. He has a great energy and is so talented you can't help but be captivated by it. We were almost the furthest you could be from the stage and I still loved every second, I can only imagine what closer seats would have been like. Next time, spending the extra money for closer seats because it is totally worth it. The opening band, Michael Franti and Spearhead was awesome, as well. They got the crowd so pumped up and are very charismatic, I am definitely going to download some of their music. They are very enjoyable.
