I am disabled and in a wheelchair. I and others in chairs were escorted in early and got front row seating in our section. The show was awesome! John Kay has not slowed down a bit despite his age. They played a lot of their older material, and the keyboard player put together old video footage, and it was played on the the big screens while the band played. Somehow they made it so it matched up with what was going on now and it was really kewl. I have seen this band before but it has been 25 yrs since the last time i saw them.

Excellent Show!! Would Highly Recommend to anyone. The John Kays band sounds just like they did back in the late 70's.

A great concert by an iconic band. Although, they only play a few dates a year now, the music selections were super. I was so excited to see that the band was to play in Wisconsin and they did not disappoint.

  • Kick Butt Music From One Of The Best

by oldiesman55 on 9/3/12NYCB Theatre at Westbury - WestburyRating: 5 out of 5

The band was excellent, from the first chords of "Sookie Sookie" until the last chord of "The Pusher." Clear sound added to the enjoyment of the show, and every nuance could be separately discerned. Not too loud, not too soft - A great listening experience. John Kay's voice was still strong, and flowed throughout the show, and the other musicians were spot-on. All-in-all, a great night for R&R.

  • great show

by qweqwerqwerq on 7/9/12Hard Rock Live - BiloxiRating: 5 out of 5

Steppenwolf put on a great show. Most of the crowd was older, as my daughter observed. They did all their old songs that everyone remembers. They do the same songs, in the same order as seen in other concerts. Are they using click tracks? They have recently added a bass player, seems to help. The only person from the original line up is John Kay. I think they sounded a bit better, perhaps more spontaneous with the original band members, but hey, this is the closest you will get to the old sound these days. Also, no telling how much longer they will be touring, so go see them if you can.

  • The wolf lives strong

by RickForFun on 7/6/12Hard Rock Live - BiloxiRating: 4 out of 5

John Kay and Steppenwolf live on strong. The music is still as it was 35 years ago. It touched me and moved me. Steppenwolf music has a soul.

  • steppenwolf is best when performing live

by lakejacksonman on 7/2/12Hard Rock Live - BiloxiRating: 5 out of 5

No cd or recording can come close to a live performance by this group. The lead guitar, bass, keyboard and drums come to life in those musicians hands. John Kay was phenominal with vocals and I loved the short introduction to each song and his explanation of what inspired him to write and record them.

  • Excellent

    by AJPQLZ20 on 7/2/12Hard Rock Live - BiloxiRating: 4 out of 5

The music was very tight and John Kay still has the vocals. They were much better than most of the old rockers I have seen out on tour. They played everything you expected. Funny that these old guys keep bringing the 60's messages right along with them. Peace, love, save the planet, stop the wars, blah, blah, blah. Music was good.

  • Steppenwolf was awesome

by dancingrabbit on 7/2/12Hard Rock Live - BiloxiRating: 5 out of 5

great show!John Kay very personable and the sound of the band was incredible. showing in the background the band playing the original songs in the 60's while the current band did the song was a masterpiece. the band led up to a fantastic closing with magic carpet ride and born to be wild. it brought the house down ! woulds love to see them again. very worthwhile bringing many old memories back

  • John Kay and Steppenwolf was phenomenal!

by Jafbee on 7/2/12Hard Rock Live - BiloxiRating: 5 out of 5

Performance and staging brought vintage rock into this century. Great entertainment for antique rockers and their digital age offspring and grand-offspring. NInety minutes of continuous music!

  • What a great show

by LittleLioness on 7/2/12Hard Rock Live - BiloxiRating: 5 out of 5

I hadn't seen Steppenwolf since I was a sophomore in college -- more than 40 years ago. John Kay has only gotten better with age. I smiled the entire evening.

  • ERIC BURDON GOOD, STEPPENWOLF SUCKS

by jfitzoz on 8/26/11Dixon Fair - DixonRating: 1 out of 5

Eric Burdon should have headlined the Dixon Fair instead of John Kay and Steppenwolf. Eric was playful with the audience throughout his set of mostly 60s Animals classics. On the other hand, John Kay now is preaching his version of sociology 1A during most of his set explaining the meaning behind his music. If I wanted an anthology lesson, I would watch VH1. Never again John Kay.

  • Burdon rocked! Kay buried by volume!

by RowdyBoy on 8/1/11Fairgrounds - DixonRating: 1 out of 5

The Animals set was very cool with a wide selection of hits and blues covers. Now for the bad news. The sound people cranked up the volume soooooo LOUD for the Steppenwolf set that it was disastrous. My friend and I are not concert wimps (we caught Hendrix, Cream, etc. back in the day) but we had to leave not only our front row seats---but the entire area---after about four tunes. The music was cranked up into a sonic wall of mud and sounded much better at our car in a parking far outside the fair grounds.
