    Great Show

by Faithey on 6/29/11Hard Rock Live - Hollywood

The guys were a little old but so am I; nothing compares to live music and hearing the original band would do it again.

    Excellent Musicians

by Eazygoing on 6/29/11Hard Rock Live - Hollywood

John Kay and Steppenwolf played very well on Sunday June 26, 2011 at the Hollywood Hard Rock in Florida. The line-up that John Kay has is very impressive. I was particulary impressed with the bass player at how well he played and contributed to the overall sound of the band. I hope he continues to contribute to the John Kay and Steppenwolf music. The drummer Ron Hurst was excellent as well. Steady. John Kay sang very well and looked healthy and strong despite the allergies that he mentioned at the concert he was going through. John Kay and guitarist Danny Johnson played well together. The song selections were well picked. A balance between the classic Steppenwolf songs and the John Kay & Steppenwolf era. The highlights were Who Needs Ya, Screaming Night Hog, Hold On, I'm Moving On, Hoochie Koochie Man, Monster, and of course Born To Be Wild. Most of these selections are on the John Kay & Steppenwolf Live in Louisville CD whick is my personal Steppenwolf live favorite CD. I would like very much to hear a new John Kay & Steppenwolf CD with brand new original songs with this line-up.

    The Wolf Still Has It

by WillieCob on 6/28/11Hard Rock Live - Hollywood

I first saw Steppenwolf somewhere around 1967 or 68. It was my first concert. They rocked then and they rock now. John Kay mentioned they were young men in vintage bodies. Well, we all seem to be, but that didn't stop the music. They reached back and found some great licks. The vocals were great and the riffs extreme. Great bass and drums put out a great beat, and the keyboard and lead guitar were awesome. Some stuff just keeps getting better!

    Steppenwolf Forever!!!

by CSA4ever on 5/12/11Dixon May Fair - Dixon

The concert featuring John Kay and Steppenwolf was AWESOME!! I first saw Steppenwolf in about 1968 and they quickly became one of my 3 Favorite Bands(the other two were the Beatles and Rolling Stones) The musical and singing talents of John Kay and Steppenwolf have actually gotten BETTER , certainly much more "POLISHED", and COMPELLING over the years, without losing the "rough edge" and "power" that defined the early Steppenwolf. Yes, in every way, John Kay and Steppenwolf took us on a wonderful, exciting, and fun "Magic Carpet Ride"!!!

    Awesome flashback show!

by Shamus74 on 5/11/11Dixon May Fair - Dixon

John Kay and Steppenwolf came out and... well, I can't say blew the roof off the place cuz we were outdoors, but they DID blow the roof off the place!!! It was an hour and a half of per rock 'n' roll heaven. The Wolf played a great mix of old and new songs that had people on their feet all night. If you get a chance to see the Wolf, don't pass it up!

Eric Burdon was great & John Kay TOTALLY ROCKED!

by skylucy on 5/11/11Dixon May Fair - Dixon

I have seen Eric Burdon and the Animals a few times and Eric B. is always enjoyable. He sounds great. He can definitely put forth some terrific rhythm and blues! I had never seen John Kay & Steppenwolf live in-concert before.*WOW* John Kay put on an incredible show! First of all...Kay looks like no other 67- year-old guy I've ever seen ...Trim, Fit and Sexy! He owned that stage. It was fun just to watch him! He also sounded fantastic. I had no idea he was so talented. His voice is so cool and he is very accomplished on the guitar and the harmonica. I've been to many concerts performed by 60's rockers. John Kay/Steppenwolf was absolutely one of the BEST!

John Kay & Steppenwolf gave an awesome concert!

    by dck1 on 5/10/114th and B - San Diego

Only critique I have was that the Silent Auction after the concert, was a little disorganized. But otherwise it was a wonderful evening of great music and memories.

    Burdon was a class act

by sacbike on 5/9/11Dixon May Fair - Dixon

I had never seen Eric Burdon before and not being a huge fan (House of the Rising Sun being overplayed waaaay too much), I wasn't expecting a lot. What a pleasant surprise. His performance was spectacular. Like many aged rock stars nowadays, he was very grateful to fans everywhere for his success, and stated such. I respect that having spent a huge sum thru the years on albums. He played almost all his familiar hits and then really brought the house down with his version of an old Muddy Waters tune-"Boom, Boom,Boom, Boom". Incredible! I liked it on the album, I loved it live. What a treat. So glad I saw him. I had seen John Kay in the early 90's and really enjoyed the bluesy treatment that he gave to all his hits as well as some other tunes he chose to play. He has such a wonderful voice. I expected a similar experience, but alas it was not to be. I always wear ear protection at rock venues, but NOTHING could dampen the insane volume at which he chose to perform. Like easily 1/2 the audience, we chose to leave during the 4th number-just couldn't take it. "Too much, man" PLEASE, keep it fun.

Quite impressed with the Dixon May Fair and the concert was out of this world. I loved every minute of this concert. From Eric Burdon to Steppenwolf . It was great to be there and see Eric Burdon sing the songs my brothers told me about when I was younger they listened to while serving our country in war. As for John Kay and steppenwolf I saw them for the first time at the Konacti Harbor in Clearlake Ca. I knew then I'd see this band again and again I'd travel some to see them. Just GROOVILOUS all the way.

    Great Time

by Nanan8er on 5/9/11Dixon May Fair - Dixon

Great Show! Really liked the security and no one standing up in front of you so we could see. Only problem was how close the chairs were attached together. Everyone had to shift cheak to cheak at the same time to fit. We will be back next year.

Steppenwolf + Eric Burdon & Animals was good combo

by LynnieBC on 5/8/11Dixon May Fair - Dixon

Eric Burdon & the Animals got the show off to a rockin' start. Was great to hear Eric Burdon's vocals, and he seemed happy to perform. John Kay & Steppenwolf were also good, but could have had less political commentary. Many of the songs were unfamilar, but still good to listen to.

    Eric Burden Rocked!

by dorkette on 5/8/11Dixon May Fair - Dixon

I guess the Animals were just the opening act, but to me they were the entire show! Every member of the team looked liked they were having a ball on stage and engaged the audience with their enthusiasm and skills. John Kay and Steppenwolf never even attempted this level of audience engagement. They were arrogant and removed from their audience. Plus the volume was cranked way too loud for my listening pleasure -- even after moving back about 20 rows the volume was loud.

    Powerful show

by Vati on 5/8/11Dixon May Fair - Dixon

Both Eric Burdon and Steppenwolf did very well. But when will these group remember that idiots controling a PA system can ruin a show. The guy during Steppenwolf show should be shot. Way to loud and he was always playing around with the knobs.Loud one minute just right the next. Other than that John Kay's set was very powerful and the song Monster was right on the mark. Everything John Kay said rang true in todays world. All of the songs had the same zip as they did when I saw them in 1997. Sookie Sookie was down right nasty!!!!4 stars for being to damn loud-shoot the mixers behind the PA. Eric Burdon didnt have any techenical issues and played most of his hits.He could have played another hours to cover EVERYTHING . His group sounded tight as always 100% rockin good time. I bought my Fillmore poster from Oct 4th 1970 to get eric to autograph it,but they decided not to do a meet and greet after the show.Something unusual for the Dixon May Fair. The poster was from the night janis Joplin died and I happenned to see War that night. Huey Lewis was there that night played in Clover..Maybe another day. Go see these guys Both put on a fine show!!!

    Terrible Acoustics

by Bidget on 5/8/11Dixon May Fair - Dixon

This concert was a huge disappointment! The only highlight was Eric Burdon; he sang alot of the hits he was known for and was a great entertainer! We did not enjoy the other half of the concert at all; John Kay & Steppenwolf barely played any of the songs that put them on the charts and the acoustics were TERRIBLE; IT WAS JUST LOUD NOISE! I doubt that we will be attending any more concerts at this venue; we love music but there is a limit to the decibels when your ears feel like they are going to burst it is no longer music!

    John Kay/Steppenwolf disappointing

by lhicks on 5/7/11Dixon May Fair - Dixon

Sat through 7 or 8 songs and didn't recognize any of them. The crowd just couldn't get into it because they weren't playing songs that they were known for. Kept waiting for them to break out into Magic Carpet Ride or Born to be Wild. After about the 9th or 10th song we decided to leave early due to boredom. And we weren't the only ones to leave early ....................
