    Joel McHale-Awesome!! Horseshoe Casino-Thumbs Down

by Anonymous on 4/24/13The Pavilion at Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati - Cincinnati

Joel was great...mixed both Soup type comedy with his own. Horseshoe Casino does not have a theatre as the seat chart lead you to believe it does. They have their major events in two ballrooms opened up to one (like for a wedding reception or conference). You sit in rows of chairs.

    Great show, bizarre venue

by cincyfan00 on 4/23/13The Pavilion at Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati - Cincinnati

Joel McHale was hilarious but the venue was strange. The Horseshoe had us in one of the ballrooms with rows and rows of chairs like they would for a business conference. Flat floor (lack of stadium seating) made it hard for the people in the back. Lighting was also a challenge, this was the first show in this room for the new casino and it showed. they tried hard and it was enjoyable - but could have been better.

McHale was decent, venue set-up was bad

by TJOhio on 4/23/13The Pavilion at Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati - Cincinnati

The opening comedian,Brooks Macbeth, was funny. Joel McHale is too if you enjoy comedy that involves making fun of people (which is normal, and what Talk Soup is all about,)

    My TV boyfriend

by BuffyandMax on 4/23/13The Pavilion at Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati - Cincinnati

While Joel is HOT some of his material was cold. I will begin by saying he has real talent. He is not an ameteur performer or your run of the mill open mic comedian (like the opening act -ugh). With that said some of the jokes were dated such as Ryan with Dick Clark and he goes on too long with an old story about the Kardashians. Jokes about his family and kids were in poor taste crossing the line from funny to uncomfortable. He filled gaps in the performance with his out of towner insights about local things. It was nice that he took the time to learn about our city and try to make that connection. Overall all he was entertaining (and of course easy on the eyes).

Best live stand up show ever!

by J3ck on 4/22/13The Pavilion at Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati - Cincinnati

I watch a ton of stand up both live and on tv and this was the best standup act i've seen live and one of the best i've seen/heard period. I like the Horseshoe Casino as well as a venue. I lucked out and had awesome seats in the center only about 6 rows back.

    The one good comedian

by Fiserfully on 4/22/13The Pavilion at Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati - Cincinnati

I'm not a huge fan of comedians but I was really surprised by Joel McHale's routine. It was organic, lively and his timing was amazing. He jokes a lot about pop culture, the life of a comedian and the craziness of family life. A surprising portion of it was jokes specific to the area we were in, he must have done a lot of research on the area because it almost even local comedians wouldn't be able to be that witty about local issues. His report with the audience was great as well, he talked with us and joked about us but it was never mean. A lot of his jokes were so organic I can only imagine he came up with them on the spot. Many comics seem to have a contest going for how much they can offend the audience (without really worrying about the jokes being funny) but he did not rely on this at all. I can't imagine anyone would leave there offended, unless they were a Kardashian, but he never seemed to hold any punches.

Joel McHale was awesome. The venue, however , was terrible. At least it gave him a lot of material! Joel worked hard and had everyone lasting. He was on stage for a good 90 minutes at least. Great show!

    Jeff Michael is amazingly funny

by Hitoyou on 4/22/13The Pavilion at Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati - Cincinnati

Make sure you watch all the junk on tv, he has a long bit like the soup. My roommate was a bit lost on the material since he doesn't watch those shows. I loved every minute of it!

    So white, so funny!

by ThatDeborahGirl on 4/22/13The Pavilion at Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati - Cincinnati

I watch Joel McHale from his tv show, "The Soup". He's still a little rough around the edges doing this standup thing, but he was funny and personable. I'm not sorry I went. He's a pretty cool guy. He looks like the love child of Conan O'Brien and Ryan Seacrest and he is hot. Brooks McBeth leaves a lot to be desired. And he should eliminate any jokes from his act that start with, "See, there was this Black Guy, see, as a set up." His racial humor and insults to Venus and Serena Williams did not go unnoticed and he nearly lost an audience of over 1000 white folks and only 8 black people with this joke. I'm sure he thought he couldn't miss with that one, but the groans filled the "conference room". Yeah, this show was in a room like you'd see in a hotel for a wedding reception or meeting. Every seat past the first 20 rows was pretty awful because it was all on one level. Even Joel McHale laughed about "every white person in Cincinnati showing up to a conference". It was my first time at the Horseshoe Casino. The venue left a lot to be desired. Joel rocked it though. He complained about the lighting enough to where he finally apologized to the lighting guy. The sound was really good. No complaints there. Bottom line, Joel Rocked it, Brooks was ok with a few misses. Not a bad evening overall.

    Hilarious show; Horrible venue.

by QueenKhufu on 4/22/13The Pavilion at Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati - Cincinnati

The show was awesome. Joel was even funnier in person. The tickets were vastly overpriced for the poor quality of the venue. It was a ballroom with chairs set up. No risers or anything for the people in the back. Impossible to see if someone tall was in front of you.

The show was great. Didn't care for his opener as much but not why we were there.

If you like The Soup, his show was great, like The Soup on steroids because he talks about a lot of the same things he does on The Soup, plus personal stuff, but with profanity. It was great to see him live and he really meshed well with the crowd!

    Terrible venue- McHale was OK

by CinciT on 4/22/13The Pavilion at Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati - Cincinnati

The Pavilion is a joke. It's a conference room with a stage. The person in the last row is at the same elevation as the person in the front row. The stage looks like it was leftover from a community talent show. Do not go here if you want to see anyone of quality.

The show was good. The Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati

by HorseshoeSully on 4/22/13The Pavilion at Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati - Cincinnati

The show was good. The Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati SUCKS!!! as a venue. The sound was too loud, lights awful and the seat where banquet seats. At one point “change battery” message appeared on the video screen.

    Great show, terrible venue

by BiffTang on 4/22/13The Pavilion at Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati - Cincinnati

Joel McHale was quite funny. However, the opening act tried way too hard and failed (don't opening acts always), and the venue was miserable. It was a conference room, with flat seats rather than stadium seating and very uncomfortable chairs. It was a joke, honestly. You didn't see the acts, you saw the back of a hundred heads.

    Funny but uncomfortable

by Hux32 on 4/22/13The Pavilion at Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati - Cincinnati

Joel McHale and his opening comic were great -- very funny -- but I didn't like the conference room setting. The chairs weren't that comfortable, and it got pretty warm. If people were sweating in April, I'd hate to think about July. Temperature issues might have been first show adjustments, though.

    The Soup Live

by agdwku300 on 4/22/13The Pavilion at Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati - Cincinnati

Hands down, Joel McHale is one of the best stand ups I have ever seen. He did 90 minutes seemlessly. He was engaging from the second he stepped on stage. From Seacrwst to the Kardashians to his kids, he was on the whole time. He is worth the money and I will tell everyone that if you have the chance to see him, you should. Now, the venue? Ok. The Horseshoe is new. This was their first big thi g. But they didn't have the foresight to build a theater with stadium seating?? We were basically set up like we were there for a tech conference. The lighting was harsh. Joel kept commenting on it. On that, the Horseshoe missed the mark completely.
