Jewel in Concert
Jewel is the rare artist who can mesmerize audiences with just an acoustic guitar and her voice. Not only is the Grammy-nominated songwriter a masterful storyteller, but she's also an expressive singer who takes a variety of approaches — raspy whispers, a powerful warble, and even a signature, awe-inspiring yodel — to convey the emotion within her folk, pop, and country tunes. Still, Jewel's 2018 Handmade Holiday Tour, a seasonal song-filled show with a pre-concert chance to make gifts, is a veritable family affair. As with the 2017 iteration of the festive jaunt, special guests include her dad, Atz (who also stars on the reality show ‘Alaska: The Last Frontier') and brothers Atz Lee and Nikos Kilcher.
About Jewel
Jewel Kilcher was brought up on a farm in rural Alaska, but started playing music from a very young age. As a child, she performed with her father, touring a circuit of hotels and bars; later, as a teenager, she studied operatic voice at Michigan's Interlochen Arts Academy. However, Jewel's career breakthrough came in early 1990s San Diego: Discovered while living in her van and playing coffeehouses, she landed a major-label record deal and released 1995's multi-platinum ‘Pieces of You,' an insightful folk-pop collection that spawned two Billboard Hot 100 No. 2 hits, "You Were Meant for Me" and "Foolish Games," and the haunting meditation "Who Will Save Your Soul." In subsequent years, Jewel expanded her fanbase by dabbling in both mainstream pop (the slinky single "Intuition" peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100) and country. But in a testament to her formidable talents, she also became a successful author — her 1999 poetry collection ‘A Night Without Armor' landed on the New York Times' best-seller list — and launched an acting career. Most notably, she portrayed June Carter Cash in the 2013 TV movie ‘Ring of Fire.'
Good venue. Jewel and her family are so talented! Amazing performers and kind people!!
Atz Sr and Jane were at merchandise table and took pics and told stories and attentive to all fans and Atz Sr gave extra special attention to the children.
Her brothers and Jewel were kidding around during several songs and that took away from the show. Her voice is still amazing though. Wish she did more of her songs such as "Standing Still."
Was a little disappointed in the overall show. Parts of the show with her family were really good however it appears during the performance Jewel didn’t have a planned adgenda. Maybe it was just an off night or perhaps she was a little tired from all the shows before.
Very down to earth, warm, friendly, and beautiful! Jewel's voice is amazing, and her camaraderie with her family is wonderful to experience.
Wonderful performance. Would recommend to anyone, show was fantastic
This is our 4th Jewel concert. And she never disappoints. This was the first time we did the VIP pass. Her concerts are always so intimate. She engages the crowd. I'm tied on whether I like her to sing or to tell stories more. There never seems to be much of a set list. She just plays it by ear and lets the crowd choose the songs.
Jewel and her family have such amazing talent. The show from start to finish was entertaining and funny. The musical talent that Jewel has is brilliant, and it was a joy to be a part of! I'd be excited to see her again in concert! Great experience!!
Jewel was absolutely amazing! Her voice range was spectacular, and the humor she brought to the stage magnetic. It was really neat seeing her play with her brothers and Dad, and hearing stories about her growing up on an Alaskan homestead. I was pleasantly surprised at the low price of the tickets, and the show was much more than the ticket value. The musicians behind Jewel were amazing!! And the Christmas decorations and lighting absolutely gorgeous! Got to meet her Dad Atz in the lobby and he was the nicest man! I highly recommend this show!!
Jewel's Concerts are always great. I am a Jewel fan forever so I am a little biased, but it is a good show. She is very friendly and loves her fans always tries to do a something a little different for each show even though they are almost the same show for every location. Her father and brothers also help make the show what it is and put their touch on it. Definitely a great show to see for a night out for the Christmas season.
Very disappointed. The band was way too loud. Her father and brothers were on stage way too long at beginning. Jewel sang 2 beautiful Christmas songs ( O Holy Night and Ave Maria). She was drowned out for other songs, and the version of Silent Night was horrendous. Again, very disappointed!
Jewel strayed too far from the ambience of her CDs...much of it was too loud and piercing. She didn't even try to connect with the audience, at least not in the first half of the show after which we left. We had significant company as we walked away.
Jewel gave the most amazing performance. She has the voice of an angel. Her performance was beyond spectacular and lengthy. She is simply wonderful
This was a great show. Had lots of Holiday songs plus her own songs. Seeing her with her family was a treat. I will be ready to see it again next year if she tours again for the holidays.
We’ve been to every Jewel live concert that has come to this area. The fact that we are fans of Alaska The Last Frontier made this concert very special. We enjoyed every minute of the event!!
Jewels voice blew me away. What a talent! Atz and Atz Lee added talent and entertainment to the show. Hope she returns again!
The show was great it she sang some Christmas songs then a few hits. My only criticism is it could have been longer.
Perfect blend of Christmas music and Jewel classics! A brief history of her life and family. Jewel has the voice of an angel!
20+ years ago, when Jewel’s first album came out, I adored her cutesy image, poetic and relatable lyrics and beautiful sounding voice. She quickly became my favorite artist. Fast forward a “few” years and somewhere along the way, I guess I missed a couple albums and stopped following her as closely as I once had. I saw that she was bringing her holiday tour to my area, along with some of her family members from their Alaskan reality tv show (which I enjoy) and thought it was the perfect opportunity to see her live after all these years. Her father and two brothers started out the show, performing two of their own songs each and then we had the pleasure of seeing Jewel’s 8 year old son come out on stage and perform a couple songs with his grandfather and two uncles. Then Jewel hit the stage and the real magic began. I was delighted to find that Jewel has grown incredibly as a singer and performer. In my opinion, Jewel sang plenty of songs on her own, each with a different spin than the original and each showcasing her incredible voice. Maybe I just didn’t realize before just how much range her voice has, but it seems to me that her voice has grown substantially over the years. At various times throughout the show, she would bring her brothers and father back out on the stage to perform with her and at one point one of them remarked that Jewel is the most talented singer out there right now and I have to say that after this concert I wholeheartedly agree. She also seems to have gained a confidence and charisma over the years that make her a joy to watch and listen to. Her Christmas show feels like and truly is a very intimate performance. You really feel as though the Kilcher family is sharing a private family performance with you. They are all delightful on stage and Jewel’s talent and performance are not to be missed.
Great to meet at, in person. I really enjoyed the variety of musical styles as well as the family history and interplay.
