About

Jewel in Concert

Jewel is the rare artist who can mesmerize audiences with just an acoustic guitar and her voice. Not only is the Grammy-nominated songwriter a masterful storyteller, but she's also an expressive singer who takes a variety of approaches — raspy whispers, a powerful warble, and even a signature, awe-inspiring yodel — to convey the emotion within her folk, pop, and country tunes. Still, Jewel's 2018 Handmade Holiday Tour, a seasonal song-filled show with a pre-concert chance to make gifts, is a veritable family affair. As with the 2017 iteration of the festive jaunt, special guests include her dad, Atz (who also stars on the reality show ‘Alaska: The Last Frontier') and brothers Atz Lee and Nikos Kilcher.

About Jewel

Jewel Kilcher was brought up on a farm in rural Alaska, but started playing music from a very young age. As a child, she performed with her father, touring a circuit of hotels and bars; later, as a teenager, she studied operatic voice at Michigan's Interlochen Arts Academy. However, Jewel's career breakthrough came in early 1990s San Diego: Discovered while living in her van and playing coffeehouses, she landed a major-label record deal and released 1995's multi-platinum ‘Pieces of You,' an insightful folk-pop collection that spawned two Billboard Hot 100 No. 2 hits, "You Were Meant for Me" and "Foolish Games," and the haunting meditation "Who Will Save Your Soul." In subsequent years, Jewel expanded her fanbase by dabbling in both mainstream pop (the slinky single "Intuition" peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100) and country. But in a testament to her formidable talents, she also became a successful author — her 1999 poetry collection ‘A Night Without Armor' landed on the New York Times' best-seller list — and launched an acting career. Most notably, she portrayed June Carter Cash in the 2013 TV movie ‘Ring of Fire.'

    Jewel was Amazing

by AnnHam on 7/20/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

Wow she is so talented. She was very AMAZING. We loved her a lot will see her again. We also enjoyed the opening act. She was very good and may have been ever better but their were so Meany people coming in and taking their sets that we could not really hear her. I have to say that it is the first concert i have ever been to that you could not here the oping act because of so Meany people coming in. The time to start was 7:30 so everyone should have already been their and at their sets. I think that they could really have better chairs. I will see Jewel whenever she is in my area again and again.

Great seats, great venue, great opening act Ashley Monroe (I already downloaded songs of hers off iTunes) and Jewel was incredible as always. No matter how many concerts of hers I attend her voice is like no other it always amazes me!

    Wow!

by PhilipS on 7/20/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

I went to this concert expecting nothing, I took a lady ( I like very much) that is a big fan. From the very first song she sang I was amazed not only can she write and sing but her banter with the audience reminded me of Bruce Springsteen. I left with the joy of a wonderful experience that was so not expected, and with one more talented artist that I will see again. The venue was also a complete surprise and a very nice one I will be going to see more shows at the Humphrey. All in all I would recommend Jewel to everyone she is a delightful entertainer one that makes you feel lucky to have had the chance to share an evening with her.

    Jewel at Humphrey's

by darrylj on 7/20/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

Great concert! Jewel is a great performer and singer-songwriter. Her vocals were clear and strong with a great amount of range and nuance. I was surprised that she didn't have a band or at least an accompanist but it didn't matter; her rhythm guitar playing was acceptable. Now that she has settled down in Texas I think her songwriting isn't as full of angst as it once was. She mentioned what an influence Bob Dylan has had on her songwriting and that is good. Her songwriting is what has carried her and made her unique within her sound.

    Great Performance by Jewel

by trd1017 on 7/20/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

Jewel provided an excellent performance last night at Humphries by the Bay. I have seen her perform several times but this was the best. She was very personable and provided insight to the background of many of the songs she sang. I was impressed with both her guitar and vocals. This was truly an enjoyable performance. The only negative was the 35 minute wait between the opening act ant Jewels performance.

    Jewel is once again amazing!

by giorgio951 on 7/20/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

Jewel demonstrated her trademark vocal wizardry as she entered the stage with to perform a soaring a capalla rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." From the start, Jewel displayed a self-assured confidence that can has to be earned over time. The components of this show, a girl and her guitar and her amazing talent were more than enough to satisfy both her most loyal fans and those only vaguely familiar with her career. Having attended several of her concerts over the past seven years, a common comment from newcomers to the experience, is their surprise at the depth of her talents and skills in a live, personal, intimate performance. Jewel's recordings never seem quite capable of capturing the range of her concert performances.

    Jewel has a beautiful voice

by CPilk on 7/20/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

I am not a "fan" per se but I do have a few of her songs on my iPod. My girl loves her and has seen her a number of time, this was the first for me. I would recommend her as a date night and Humphreys has given a little leg room for the people in the venue.

    A vocal gem!

by Janal on 7/20/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

Not only is the venue one of the best in San Diego (incredibly beautiful, fantastic services . . . ) but Jewel, singing acoustically, was phenominal! Her voice is a true instrument!

I think jewel is one of the best singers I've heard. What a pure, beautiful voice and she is great on the guiter. So glad I purchased tickets for her show. If you are considering seeing Jewel, you'll be happy you did.
