About

Jessie Reyez in Concert

Combining unapologetic lyrics with in-your-face vocals, Toronto-born singer-songwriter Jessie Reyez is one of pop's brashest personalities. Reyez played guitar as a child and realized she was a music writer while in high school. In 2014 she collaborated with Chicago-based MC King Louie on his Canada-saluting track "Living in the Sky." In 2016 she broke through on her own with "Figures," a stark post-breakup track paired with a gripping video that showcased Reyez's raw feeling. "Evoking emotion from people is always a byproduct," Reyez told Genius. "It's not like I aimed to do that, but it's a beautiful byproduct that happens to come from certain songs."

Now, as a recipient of a JUNO award, 2018 Breakthrough Artist of the Year, she could say her subsequent catalog has been an object lesson in releasing that byproduct. Her debut EP, 2017's 'Kiddo,' was steeped in feeling while also showing off her musical range and the delirious "Shutter Island" pairs her yowl with macabre carnival music, while "Great One" shows off her softer side, its plush synths allowing her to luxuriate in existential questions like "What is life? What is love? What is time? What is choice?" The harrowing 'Kiddo' track "Gatekeeper," accompanied by a short film that she cowrote, turned a #MeToo-worthy experience from years ago that almost led to her quitting the music business into an artistic triumph.

While gearing up for the release of her second EP, 'Being Human in Public,' Reyez has kept busy with guest appearances and relentless touring. Her reworking of "Figures," performed with fellow Canadian Daniel Caesar at the 2018 JUNO Awards, added a dramatic twist to the song's heartbroken narrative; her turn as Eminem's foil on the controversial MC's 2018 track "Nice Guy" shows how she can hold her own against music's biggest names; and her performances at festivals like Lollapalooza and Afropunk have electrified huge crowds. Reyez's rise is proof that pure feeling can be a powerful connector.

Jessie is a inspiring creative and her show is amazing. She has great stories and life experiences that’s shine through her music. She gives all that she has into her music, and is a living example of what’s possible with belief.

  • The album doesn't do justice

    by Davix426 on 11/14/22The Fillmore Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Yessie is a great album, but the sheer intensity Jessie Reyez performs it is leagues above. With her two openers, we were already in a complete trance entering the main entree. Enjoyed it with my arms folded, no pun intended.

The show: Jessie Reyez was amazing! The Venue: House of Blues gets super oversold so the only way for us to really enjoy a show there is to get VIP seating. Totally worth it.

  • best two nights of my life

by valentina on 11/11/22House of Blues Chicago - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

i've loved jessie's music since figures blew up, but this was my first time ever seeing her live! her vocal talent is ridiculous and the love she emits to the entire audience is truly something special. i've been to quite a few concerts, from mereba to rihanna, and this might honestly be my favorite! her fans are just as special as her. i came by myself the first day and made a friend who had also come. he happened to have been gifted two vip tickets by another one of jessie's fans and offer me the extra one. we came together the next day and made another friend who came alone both days! i think we built a beautiful friendship and will see jessie together next time she's in chicago. :)

  • Sing along with Jessie Reyes

by AT on 11/11/22House of Blues Chicago - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was at the house of blues in Chicago. Jessie had two not well known yet energetic and beautifully talented women open for her. They are definitely worth keeping an eye on as they will definitely be rising. Jessie Reyez- she killed it!!! Played a little from each album, interacted with the crowd, loved on the babies, acknowledged the love from the balcony, had us make friends with our neighbors. Jessie came with the energy and we the crowd gave it back to her, the floor was vibrating, people were sweating, the venue handed out cups of water. Security was kind and level headed, newbies passed out and were retrieved from the crowd with super Sonic speed. Seasoned Reyes goers screamed till our voices were gone and recorded till our phones died. Then we sprinted to the mech table so we’d have our uniform for the next concert with Miss Reyez because there’s no way we aren’t going to see this queen again. I would highly recommend!

  • Best concert ever

    by Jenny M on 11/9/22Fillmore Minneapolis - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the best concerts I have been too. Took my 13 year old daughter to see Jessie Reyes and she fell in love with her. The vibes were amazing and everyone was singing every song. My daughter was stepped on by some girl trying to squeeze to the front and she got hurt. We went to security and they got us ice and a wheelchair for her. They found us some really nice seats so we can continue to watch the show. They were so awesome. Besides that the experience was great.

  • A memory I will never forget

I was absolutely impressed with Jessie’s performance. I knew it was gonna be amazing either way, but her as a human is very intoxicating and a whole vibe! I will definitely pay good money to make sure I see every show she puts on in Minnesota!

Jessie Reyez was sooooo amazing! I saw her in 2020 when she was the opener for Billie. So being able to see her up close and personal was an honor and an experience I’ll never forget

  • Jessie knows how to put on a show

by Maria on 11/6/22Summit - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

Jessie Reyez and her openers were awesome! She definitely needed to book a larger venue, one where people can come and go from the crowd to use the restrooms/ bar. There were some frustrations with other concert goers that were stuck in areas of constant heavy traffic and couldn't see the stage very well.
