About

Jessie Reyez in Concert

Combining unapologetic lyrics with in-your-face vocals, Toronto-born singer-songwriter Jessie Reyez is one of pop's brashest personalities. Reyez played guitar as a child and realized she was a music writer while in high school. In 2014 she collaborated with Chicago-based MC King Louie on his Canada-saluting track "Living in the Sky." In 2016 she broke through on her own with "Figures," a stark post-breakup track paired with a gripping video that showcased Reyez's raw feeling. "Evoking emotion from people is always a byproduct," Reyez told Genius. "It's not like I aimed to do that, but it's a beautiful byproduct that happens to come from certain songs."

Now, as a recipient of a JUNO award, 2018 Breakthrough Artist of the Year, she could say her subsequent catalog has been an object lesson in releasing that byproduct. Her debut EP, 2017's 'Kiddo,' was steeped in feeling while also showing off her musical range and the delirious "Shutter Island" pairs her yowl with macabre carnival music, while "Great One" shows off her softer side, its plush synths allowing her to luxuriate in existential questions like "What is life? What is love? What is time? What is choice?" The harrowing 'Kiddo' track "Gatekeeper," accompanied by a short film that she cowrote, turned a #MeToo-worthy experience from years ago that almost led to her quitting the music business into an artistic triumph.

While gearing up for the release of her second EP, 'Being Human in Public,' Reyez has kept busy with guest appearances and relentless touring. Her reworking of "Figures," performed with fellow Canadian Daniel Caesar at the 2018 JUNO Awards, added a dramatic twist to the song's heartbroken narrative; her turn as Eminem's foil on the controversial MC's 2018 track "Nice Guy" shows how she can hold her own against music's biggest names; and her performances at festivals like Lollapalooza and Afropunk have electrified huge crowds. Reyez's rise is proof that pure feeling can be a powerful connector.

  • Best Show of my LIFE

by Sammie on 11/17/22The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 5 out of 5

Even with almost passing out and being crushed by the enormous crowd at the sold out show - Jessie is by far the best live performance I’ve ever seen. Her energy is unmatched and she genuinely loves her fans. 10/10 will sell their souls to see her again.

She was AMAZING!!! She was way better than I imagined and I wasn’t sure what to except because it was my first time seeing her live! Her openers were really good too!

Jessie put out one of the GREATEST shows I’ve ever seen! Minus the drunk lady in front me trying to fight everyone, it was amazing! Her spirit and voice are unmatched and I hope she always stays that way!

  • Yessie tour 😭🥹🌈🌼🥰

by Nique on 11/17/22The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 5 out of 5

I really had a great time and I enjoyed everything about it . I was even glad that they still had Jessie Reyez hoodie when the concert was over . I usually don’t go out or drink so I tried some kind of sangria and it was good and I enjoyed the Philly cheesesteak egg rolls .

  • Great show!

by Kelso on 11/16/22The Fillmore Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

LOVED this show! Jessie was amazing, she is so energetic & fun. Sound was great, lighting was great, she was perfect! The Fillmore is one of my favorite venues because it's small & intimate. We could clearly see the stage even from the very back of the crowd. Only weird thing was no one checked our tickets on 11/13/22. We just walked right in after getting the 21yr old stamp & getting patted down. Someone messed up! :)

  • Jessie is AMAZING

such a great concert. Jessie killed it! I hate not having seats but I was able to stand in the back and still enjoyed the show

  • EPIC just EPIC

    by Gigi_Staxs on 11/16/22Rating: 5 out of 5

Saw her at the Fillmore in Philly. All I have to say is no matter where just go see her. Her stage presence & engagement with that crowd is other worldly. THE VOCALS ARE CRAZIER LIVE!! She is such an amazing artist and performer. This will most certainly not be my last Jessie Reyez Show.

  • YESSIE TOUR

by Nanalcma on 11/16/22The Fillmore Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

I love Jessie!!! It was amazing. The only thing I didn’t like was waiting outside in the cold. And I wish tall people would’ve been on the left side of the stage and short people on the right. It’s impossible to see when you’re short, even wearing high heels. 😆

  • One of the best

So I’m 30 and this was my first concert ever. It was so amazing. The vibes were all right. The place was great, wasn’t crowded.( minus the overly priced watered down drinks. That’s wasn’t fun lol.)Jessie omg! Jessie she changed my life. I love you Jessie! I can’t wait for the next one! We even got a $20 credit! I know I’m all over the place with this review! It was an experience I will never forget!

  • Jessie's Spirit

by Chris Harley on 11/16/22The Fillmore Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

With her album entitled Yessie, Jesse Reyez made a fan of me this year. The Joe Budden podcast praised its sound, so on the strength of that endorsement, I listened to and loved it. I then watched her Tiny Desk performance for NPR. With her animated, dramatic, and energetic presence and playfulness on full display, it proved that she could really sing and that her live show sounded like or better than her album. I bought the cd, tickets to her tour, and merchandise as soon as I saw she was coming to Philly. She performed at the Fillmore last night with an artist from New Jersey named Nija in her lineup. On stage, with the abandonment of a child, Jessie was a free spirit in motion and a comedian in wit, breaking up songs with the encouragement of crowd participation and anecdotes about her musical journey, which she sometimes expressed in relation to the city's imprint on it, like how she assessed her first supply of merchandise here, seeing her album's art on a t-shirt and such. She discovered that the audience knew songs that she expected it not to and was gifted a white coat made of leather and fashioned with graphics and strait-jacket elements commemorative of a particular song's lyrics which declared that at least her institutionalized fit was "custom made." To see her warm reception was a pleasure in itself, for in every aspect, through her album, on stage, and in interviews, she's likeable without aiming to be, coming across so genuine and insightful and human that an affinity for her can't be helped.

  • GREATEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE

by Paul Kimba on 11/16/22The Fillmore Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

All of her fans were nice extremely nice. She really interacted with her fans. I love everything about the show especially how she performs unique from how it sounds on her tracks. It’s like you’re getting a remixed version. Jessie Reyez is unarguably the Greatest Artist Of All Time!!!!

  • Out of this world. Absolutely magnificent

by Molsen on 11/14/22The Fillmore Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

She is so talented I can’t even believe I got to see her live. My whole life was made seeing her perform. She is like no other artist. I’ve already looked up other states she’s going to because I’m trying to see her one more time during this tour. So grateful for my experience.

  • What a VIBE

by Saad on 11/14/22The Fillmore Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

From the openers to Jessie my first concert experience was nothing short of tremendous. Jessie gets EVERYONE involved from the spectators who got dragged to the show not knowing a single song to the major Stans. A night to remember.

  • Epic!!

by Gypsy on 11/14/22The Fillmore Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Jessie is everything and more! Humble, aware, inclusive, and supportive. I’ve been a fan since the beginning and that hasn’t changed. I’m grateful concerts are back because the live experience makes her lyrics and passion even more apparent. If Marshall had walked out to do his song with her I may have fainted. Great show regardless!! Love the Yessie tour!!

  • Her energy matched the music I've been listening to.

by Jusyyy on 11/14/22The Fillmore Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

She was amazing, from the second that she stepped on stage. She was interactive, she sounded great(unlike some artist that don't sound like they do on CD). She had amazing energy and a great vibe. She made sure that everyone had a good vibe through out her set. Would definitely go see her again.
