    30th Annual JazzReggae Festival

by Mlme on 5/31/16UCLA - Los Angeles

What a fabulous experience of traditional jazz with The Thelonious Monk Institute Ensemble. Michael Mayo's vocals were pure, smooth and controlled. Each musician joyfully shared the breadth and depth of what it takes to be a future jazz master. I danced and whooped it up when Tiffany performed. Reggae was the true star it should be!!! Bambaata Marley is next generation reggae artist carrying the torch into the future. As Ziggy's son and Bob Marley's grandson, his energy and passion have been passed to him and he is carrying the torch! Jesse Royal was so authentic with just one word "Ja". Genuine, heartfelt reggae. Loved it. Then the Legend Barrington Levy took the stage. His voice so big and commanding and so sincere. When he sang "Nothing To Be A Man" he slowed it down with such emotion I broke out in tears. Thank you UCLA for bringing back the original concept of JazzReggae Festival and the location (back on the grass) was great!

There was no reggae or Jazz, it was awful.

by Claria on 5/8/15Los Angeles Tennis Center at UCLA - Los Angeles

This was a big hoax, there was no reggae or jazz, the lead singer of the first band, said thanks for having me here, I don't sing reggae or jazz, don't know why I am here but thanks any way.I shall not return

BRING BACK TO THE ORIGINAL JAZZ REGGAE FEST

by Tayyy on 4/30/15Los Angeles Tennis Center at UCLA - Los Angeles

Seriously, so horrible this year. The venue change was a big mistake, as well as the overall organization of the line up. Half the arena was empty. Also, there were no jazz or reggae artists this year. It makes a huge difference, because in previous years, guests were able to come over the span of the weekend, bring blankets and foods and have a relaxing, fun time. The seating this year was in individual chairs that made the event very stiff and frustrating. People weren't even standing up for the artists. It was a very very pathetic turn out. PLEASE GO BACK TO THE WAY JAZZ REGGAE FEST WAS. IF IT AINT BROKE DON'T FIX IT!!

please change the name of this event

by 4theluvofmusic1329 on 4/29/15Los Angeles Tennis Center at UCLA - Los Angeles

I have been going to this event on and off for 10 years. It has completely changed from a jazz and reggae festival to a commercialize rocke concert. Please change the name.

    It was okay...

by ManiB on 4/28/15Los Angeles Tennis Center at UCLA - Los Angeles

Maybe it was because it was an overcast, windy and rainy day, but there was very, very low attendance. The music, however, was very good. We only stayed until 4 or so. Maybe it got jumping with more people later on.

If Wale wasn't there I would've walked out

by NajeeDidIt on 4/28/15Los Angeles Tennis Center at UCLA - Los Angeles

Ultimately the whole fest was disappointing! I've gone before and had a great time but this was ridiculous. I wouldn't come here ever again! Unless like this year there is a great headliner. Wale made up for the rest of the horrible night, he was amazing. Lido was good also but it's a "JazzReggae" Fest not Vegas. If Wale wasn't there I would have requested a refund for the whole fest, even my food was bad!

    JRF

by Shiaaaaaa on 4/28/15Los Angeles Tennis Center at UCLA - Los Angeles

No jazz musicians, maybe 2 reggae musicians. The main stage lineup sucked. The music was OK, the second stage in the back was jamming more than the main stage . He played all the right music that's where I spent majority of my time. The vendors food was amazing great choices. There wasn't enough room to eat at the tables, and I did not want to sit on the wet AstroTurf (light drizzle) that was a downer. The ticket price was too much for the event.

Portugal. The man stole the show

by Shleesh on 4/28/15Los Angeles Tennis Center at UCLA - Los Angeles

The day was overall very unique. It was nice to listen to the dj's play at the second stage while eating at one of the delicious and very ethnically diverse food stands. On the other hand, there was very little seating and when my friend and I wanted to enjoy our fried fish and kebabs while relaxing on the turf, we were asked to get up from our comfortable spot on the ground. After eating dinner we went to see Lido and Portugal. The man on the main stage and Portugal was absolutely amazing! It was so energetic and intimate, it will be a hard experience to forget.

Wale as the headliner was amazing of course. As well as a couple other acts including Kehlani and Marion Hill. However, there was NOTHING jazz or reggae about this event! i LOVE reggae and was really disappointed that there was none on stage , or even some coming from the DJ off to the side! NO reggae whatsoever at a reggae festival? i dont understand.

Wale did his thing!!! And Lido was good. I wasn't at the festival all day so I didn't see all the acts and/or if other booths left because of the rain. However, there wasn't much to do in the arts and craft section. I thought there would be many more hands things to do. The food booths were sufficient. Overall the music portion was the best part.

The previous venue and line-ups were far better. The food was good as usual.

    Improved and Appreciated

by Milena09 on 6/3/14UCLA Intramural Field - Los Angeles

After last year's debacle with the vendors I was quite hesitant in attending. Being stuck on a field with no food or drink was not something that I wanted to experience again. Luckily that did not happen this year. Food was being sold, artists were painting, and the performers were amazing. The one draw back, the emcees were awful.

    Aloe Blacc awesome!

by hstar11 on 5/31/14UCLA Intramural Field - Los Angeles

Aloe Blacc was awesome...I was really hoping Snoop Dogg would do more Snoop Lion instead...it didn't really seem all age appropriate with the songs he chose.

    Super fun

by Anonymous on 5/30/14UCLA Intramural Field - Los Angeles

Great festival - well organized and planned out. The music and line up were great, lots of food vendors to choose from and merchants. It was fairly hot between 11am-3pm so the only downside is people cannot bring their own umbrellas. I'd suggest to the organizers to perhaps provide something to block the sun or give people the choice in the general admission area. Also if they had some kind of misting tent or similar to keep people and kids cool. Other than that, great fun and wonderful that the organizers chose to keep it "earth" friendly, providing free water at a refill station, recycling bins everywhere and even free sno-cones for 5 minutes of your energy!

Great Lineup..but poor & disappointing atmosphere!

by Ceeeforever on 5/29/14UCLA Intramural Field - Los Angeles

Started too early, couldn't buy alcohol or smoke on premises. Music between performances was great but played at a very low volume, never really got the crowd warmed up...what did was the sun!! Festival should've also continued for longer, for instance after all the performances were done there could've been a party tent till 2am.

Good music and another good event! Not much of a big turn out in previous years and I am sure it was due to the lineup but overall I still enjoyed myself.

    Jazz Fest 2014

by PrettyBruin on 5/29/14UCLA Intramural Field - Los Angeles

Line up wasn't as great as I thought. Wish umbrellas were allowed, just to make it more comfortable.

I always enjoy the Reggae Concert. I have been going since it was a free event offered by UCLA. There were not as many food vendors this year but I ate at a new vendor. They soid barbeque. The food was good and they even had some food for 3.00. The food is sometimes over priced and in the past some of it was not good. If you have a family $8.00- $10.00 a plate for food is a lot. $5.00 for a drink is a lot.
