James also has two hit podcasts "Off Menu" which he hosts with Ed Gamble, and 'Perfect Sounds' both of which are regulars on the iTunes top 10 List.

Fantastic show, can’t wait to see the special

by Jess on 3/20/24Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre - Toronto

James Acaster was absolutely fantastic. The heckling from the crowd was a bit to get used to as a Canadian but his improvisation was incredibly funny and the bits of his set that he got to do were all hilarious. I’ll be first in line to buy his special when he’s releasing it and I will definitely see him again the next time he’s doing a show anywhere near me.

Much more than a comedy show

by AlexDallas on 3/19/24Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre - Toronto

James Acaster reels us in with mostly true stories of his finding his way on to stages since his childhood. With lots of help from his therapist , the tall gangly man , tells stories that his Boy self , wouldn’t want us to see or hear . Hilarious scenes of his melt downs and crying as he struggles with rejection from his own grandmother at a Show and Tell in school, to hiding his awful impressions of Prince Charles , to being accosted by lads on a train . The highlight for me was his sausage dog story . Go see for yourself . Acaster’s ability to use vulnerability and self examination without being unduly saccharine or self indulgent is a marvel . We never stopped laughing for two hours. The odd misplaced lame Canadian heckles came and went as he deftly swatted them away and had us all reeling at his quick comebacks and advice as to how to successfully heckle , which we still failed at . He is charming , self deprecating and a breath of fresh air in a world dominated by men with axes to grind . Highly recommend!

AMAZING Show!!! Venue was not as good.

by Becky on 3/18/24Beacon Theatre - New York

James Acaster was INCREDIBLE!!!! Hilarious, poignant, a true story teller. It was so very funny and even moving at times. He has amazing stage presence and such a way with his material that a seemingly mundane story is spun into truly a fascinating and funny tale. The venue however needs work, which is nothing James has any control over which is why my review is 5 stars for him, but I will say the venue impacted my experience negatively. The line for the women's restroom at the intermission was atrociously long. I waited the entire 20 minute intermission and missed 10 minutes of the second act due to this line. The staff would not allow anyone to run across the street to a nearby hotel or restaurant to use their restrooms so we were all trapped in the longest line I've ever experienced. They either need to build more bathrooms or allow people to leave and re-enter. Missing part of a show I paid for because the physical space could not accommodate the needs of the patrons during intermission was really disappointing and upsetting as I missed build up to a joke that I then couldn't understand once I was back. I probably won't go back to this theater knowing I'll have to miss parts of a show I am there for.

    An Engaging Storyteller

by Laura NJ on 3/16/24Beacon Theatre - New York

James Acaster at The Beacon was a delight. He had me laughing the entire time and, by the very end, actually made me cry with a major "Awwww!"

    Funny, thoughtful and polished

by Little Brute on 3/16/24Beacon Theatre - New York

Drove down to the Beacon in NYC from Maine to see Acaster. We were impressed with the personable staff and the venue was beautiful. James put on a dynamic show that never dragged. It was both funny, thoughtful, and polished. The man can drum, too. Traveling 10 hrs for 2 hr show seems excessive but we would do it again.

Absolutely the best out of hundreds I’ve seen

by David S on 3/16/24Beacon Theatre - New York

I’ve loved Acaster’s work since I first heard him in the Good One podcast discussing his Great British Bake-off joke (story) and have watched all his specials. But this was the first time I’ve seen him perform live. The show was unlike many and almost seems like it’s in a rare category. It definitely isn’t pure standup and joke-telling. And it was hilarious through-and-through, so it wasn’t just a one-man show or monologue. The only other show I can compare it to is Gary Gulman’s The Great Depresh. So glad I went. I will make sure to catch Acaster the next time he’s in New York for sure.

    Introspective and Hilarious

by Frankie on 3/15/24Beacon Theatre - New York

Adored this show. James really opens up about his long term relationship with stand up and the audience in a witty and in depth look into important childhood moments and how they remain with him today. His humor and whimsy make such serious confessions, not only light enough for the stage but absolutely hilarious. You can tell how this set has been curated and tinkered with (love the childhood toys in the stage) to make it what it is today.
