About

HOT TUNA IN CONCERT:

Blues rockers Hot Tuna may have come into being incidentally, but it's no accident that they continue to sell out tours year after year. Formed as a side project by members of Jefferson Airplane while frontwoman Grace Slick was recovering from throat surgery, the band quickly attained an identity of its own, outlasting its forebear and going on to achieve considerable success. The band has always been a live act first and foremost -- they've released more live albums than studio albums -- and they'll continue to bring down the house on their upcoming tour as they treat fans to classics like "Hesitation Blues" and "Hit Single #1."

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

At the height of Jefferson Airplane's success in the late '60s, the band took a break from touring as lead singer Grace Slick recovered from vocal cord surgery. Eager to continue playing during the hiatus, several  of the band's members began performing  as Hot Tuna, covering blues classics alongside Jefferson Airplane favorites. Eventually achieving its own identity with original material, Hot Tuna continued to be a powerful live force as the band that spawned it waned. Their self-titled 1970 debut, a live recording of a show played in Berkeley, set the tone for a catalog dominated by live albums. Continuing to perform today with original members Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen, Hot Tuna has fans eagerly awaiting their upcoming tour dates.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Hot Tuna rocked the house... It was a non-stop banquet of electric blues and rock played with skill, generosity, and enthusiasm. The crowd was ecstatic, and I think the band was even happier."

"These men haven't lost a step, or a beat. Loved the songs from the album Burgers."

"For a group of older gents, these men really crank! Professional and passionate about their music, they filled the room with great sound and spirit!"

    Hot as ever

by Dug on 9/26/23Beacon Theatre - New York

For the better part of 40 years, Hot Tuna shows have been a regular event for me. Consistently good over the years, they have gotten better with age. Hanging up the “Electric” shows comes at a good time in their lives…no doubt they will deliver acoustically moving forward. Saturday was a great show. 5 Stars

These guys are too young to quit!

by JohnP on 9/26/23Beacon Theatre - New York

I started seeing Tuna in '72. I have gone to see them - at least annually since then, as long as they were touring. Yes-they are older. Yes - Jorma's fingers are not as quick while standing as they once were. They Brought it! it may have been saying goodbye, but the show was an encyclopedia of their careers together - back to the Airplane (Trial by Fire, Good Shepherd). they did work from every incarnation of Tuna - weel and with Spirit. (That was the first time i heard "Invitation"live since Bob Steeler was "pounding the skins".) There was no hint that we were being entertained by a couple of octogenarians. If Tuna has a weakness, it is that their fans come from a "moment in time", and we are all getting old. Looking at the male part of the audience it was a gathering of "no to grey hair"wearing sagging blue jeans. I will continue to see them acoustic as long as they continue to perform, and cried on the way home from this show - not because it was the end, but because it was so Damn Good!

    Great show!

by EH on 9/18/23Kodak Center - Rochester

Hot tuna pkayed for 3 hours with a breif intermission at the half. They sounded great although the sound mixing was alittle underwhelming. Never the less it was a great show by fantastic performers.

Sound was poor, especially the bass for a lot of the show. It got better, but not really great.

    they just keep playing

by seaho on 5/2/23St. George Theatre - Staten Island

An awesome show, filled with 25 songs and many good ones thatchy don't always play like BBQ King. The acoustics were fine and the theater is nice and small where every seat is a good one. Jorma was talkative too..They appear to always have a great time together on the stage. Gotta love Hot Tuna

    Old school

by PG on 5/2/23St. George Theatre - Staten Island

Hot Tuna was just that, guitar licks classic, Jorma singing bluesy and soulful. Jack just being Jack playing off of Jorma, sometimes leading the way. Great venue.

Over 50 years of the Best Acoustic Music

by C. Manasia on 5/2/23St. George Theatre - Staten Island

This concert may have had the best sound I ever heard in a theater the size of the St. George! Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, the “meat and potatoes” of Hot Tuna performed brilliantly. I’ve been an avid fan of the duo since the 1970s and like fine wine, they’ve only gotten better with age!

Jack's Birthday Party Favors for the House !

by Jack & Jorma Fan on 4/19/23Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - Skokie

Starting with the opening tune, 'Been So Long' this show was a celebration of a musical collaboration that has grown and flowered more than 60 years ! The focus was on the acoustic sounds of the duos shared love for rootsy blues and the music that was created in that tradition over their shared and separate histories. The room had a great sound and sight lines. The crowd was receptive and appreciative. I've seen the duo in smaller venues that had less intimate than this show. I'm so glad Jack & Jorma are touring through the first week of May !
