HOT TUNA IN CONCERT:
Blues rockers Hot Tuna may have come into being incidentally, but it's no accident that they continue to sell out tours year after year. Formed as a side project by members of Jefferson Airplane while frontwoman Grace Slick was recovering from throat surgery, the band quickly attained an identity of its own, outlasting its forebear and going on to achieve considerable success. The band has always been a live act first and foremost -- they've released more live albums than studio albums -- and they'll continue to bring down the house on their upcoming tour as they treat fans to classics like "Hesitation Blues" and "Hit Single #1."
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
At the height of Jefferson Airplane's success in the late '60s, the band took a break from touring as lead singer Grace Slick recovered from vocal cord surgery. Eager to continue playing during the hiatus, several of the band's members began performing as Hot Tuna, covering blues classics alongside Jefferson Airplane favorites. Eventually achieving its own identity with original material, Hot Tuna continued to be a powerful live force as the band that spawned it waned. Their self-titled 1970 debut, a live recording of a show played in Berkeley, set the tone for a catalog dominated by live albums. Continuing to perform today with original members Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen, Hot Tuna has fans eagerly awaiting their upcoming tour dates.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Hot Tuna rocked the house... It was a non-stop banquet of electric blues and rock played with skill, generosity, and enthusiasm. The crowd was ecstatic, and I think the band was even happier."
"These men haven't lost a step, or a beat. Loved the songs from the album Burgers."
"For a group of older gents, these men really crank! Professional and passionate about their music, they filled the room with great sound and spirit!"

They are fabulous - there is no other way to put it. It is amazing that Jorma and Jack have been playing togetehr for 51 years! The music was as good and fresh as it has ever been. They had a great time and so did I.
The music and musicians were world class. These guys played continuously for over 2 hours. And, the warm-up act was equally as good. But, the real entertainment was the audience. These were a gathering of "boomers" reliving their high school college days. I'd pay to see Hot Tuna again.
what a wonderful treat- Jorma and Jack still have it - My favorite was the addition of the mandolin player "Barry" he was amazing!!!!!
This was at a place in Orlando that I have never been at called The Plaza near downtown. It was a very cozy place indoors and I have seen Tuna at least six time over the past 4 years. They still enjoy playing together, and the line-up they have now is smokin!!!! Barry really compliments Jack and Jorma. The crowed was older but most of Tuna's fans are, I am only 24 but grew up with it. The crowed seemed to find it okay that they were quiet between songs and not too much noise going on when they played. I the set list was different than the previous night at Skippers in Tampa, good to see them still changing it. They are a true test of time what in my opinun, they could play in a coffee house or garage and they would be happy to do just that, a great band a sound like no other.
Jorma and Jack were as tight and consistent as always. Barry added unique flavor with some excellent performances rounding out the "Electric Hot tuna" sound. I didn't remember the drummers name, but he kept things together and tight without distracting from the Tuna inter-play that is Hot Tuna. I met many other fans some from out of state one from Australia. A really good night. The venue had great acoustics and sound and it was large enough to accomodate the numerous fans but small enough to make it feel intimate and personal
Jorma and Jack still got it! Barry Mitterhoff was jamming out of control on the electric mandolin, and Skoota Warner (skootabird!) was a pure rhythm devil. Great show.
Great jams as always, Barry just continues to impress- very talented musician. Skoota Warner was an excellent drummer adds good power to the band again (like Bob Steeler days) I felt the venue had a lot of sound issues. Both acts seemed to have a real problem getting a feel for the room. I had to walk around until I could find a place that sounded good for me.
music was great venue was very crowded no chairs chairs that were available, patrons were not permitted to sit upon in good viewing areas
Hot Tuna sounded tighter than ever. The show was great from start to finish. Jorma looks slim and healthy and Jack did some aerobics for us, he jumped at least three feet in the air while getting down on the bass. It was a real treat. I hope these guys never stop touring. I used to see them more often back in NY but now that I am here in South Florida it is nice to know they will come down sometime during August. The last time I saw them at Revolution they played outside and Jack was not happy with the heat, the only heat last night was coming from the stage. Smoking!!!!
Hot Tuna put on an amazing performance at Revolution! Jack was smoking on the bass and Jorma was amazing on guitar, not to mention Barry on the pile of cool little instruments he had there! I don't know the new drummers name but he was spot on. These guys put their hearts into the show and we were there till nearly 1:00am. One of the best shows I've been to in several years. Bands with member half their age or less could take a lesson from the energy these guys put out for a show. It was amazing and if you missed it drive to Orlando tonight, it would be worth the effort!
After over 40 years, Jack and Jorma can still jam like no one else....they played with their usual passion....... The venue (Revolution) was excellent However, for them to charge $28 for TWO (2), yes TWO drinks, was absolutely disgusting... Next time, BYO.... Thanks Jack and Jorma...
The Revolution served up a steaming portion of Hot Tuna last night. From the moment they came on stage to the final chords Jack, Jorma, and Barry catered the Ft. Lauderdale audience to healthy portions of Hot Tuna's musical recipes. Jack and Jorma appeared to still have a ball playing together after all of these years. Barry's Mandolin playing added an bluegrass undertone to many familar classics that brought out surprising freshness. Jack and Jorma's playing remains both fresh and familar. This band is a national treasure and should be recognized as such. If you have a chance to see this incarnation of the Band do so.
Super musicians. Played in many styles- elecetric, acoustic, blues, jazz, bluegrass, rock, country--Each song was very unique. The crowd had a great time.
They are still awesome. Venue should have more seating.
