HOT TUNA IN CONCERT:
Blues rockers Hot Tuna may have come into being incidentally, but it's no accident that they continue to sell out tours year after year. Formed as a side project by members of Jefferson Airplane while frontwoman Grace Slick was recovering from throat surgery, the band quickly attained an identity of its own, outlasting its forebear and going on to achieve considerable success. The band has always been a live act first and foremost -- they've released more live albums than studio albums -- and they'll continue to bring down the house on their upcoming tour as they treat fans to classics like "Hesitation Blues" and "Hit Single #1."
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
At the height of Jefferson Airplane's success in the late '60s, the band took a break from touring as lead singer Grace Slick recovered from vocal cord surgery. Eager to continue playing during the hiatus, several of the band's members began performing as Hot Tuna, covering blues classics alongside Jefferson Airplane favorites. Eventually achieving its own identity with original material, Hot Tuna continued to be a powerful live force as the band that spawned it waned. Their self-titled 1970 debut, a live recording of a show played in Berkeley, set the tone for a catalog dominated by live albums. Continuing to perform today with original members Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen, Hot Tuna has fans eagerly awaiting their upcoming tour dates.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Hot Tuna rocked the house... It was a non-stop banquet of electric blues and rock played with skill, generosity, and enthusiasm. The crowd was ecstatic, and I think the band was even happier."
"These men haven't lost a step, or a beat. Loved the songs from the album Burgers."
"For a group of older gents, these men really crank! Professional and passionate about their music, they filled the room with great sound and spirit!"

Jorma,Jack and Justin are some of the best in the business. Their musicianship and presents on the stage was truly another great experience with a topnotch band!!
This show was far better than my expectations . Jack’s bass is an orchestra in itself and Jorma sounded like it was 1975. They jammed for almost 3 hours. Kudos to Tuna . My only regret is they are done with doing future electric sets but this show was unforgettable. They got many standing ovations and they deserved every one of them .
To watch Jack and Jorma, idols of my youth, perform for almost 2 hours and 40 minutes was glorious!
These guys have been laying down rock blues grooves for 60 years. Tinges of JA evident. The music was utterly sublime. Was looking for death don’t have no mercy but hesitation blues did not disappoint. Will go see them again if I can.
Hot Tuna played electric at the Parker for the last time. The show was electric and the crowd was ecstatic. The remodeled Parker is a classic venue. My only hope is Hot Tuna returns in their acoustic format
Jack (79) and Jorma (82) put on a great show at The Warner Theter in Washing ton, DC. Their musical bond created over 50 years of playing together was very evident. We had very good seats (although they were sized for little people) in row F and no reak of weed. The mix was so-so, heavy on the instruments and the vocals were at times imperceptibly soft. Jack was pretty much flawless playing his signature gold Epiphone semi-hollow body bass while Jorma swicthed between a Gibson Chet Atkins SST acoutic electric for finger picking and a Gibson Les Paul with midi pickup for more rock centric songs. I did notice Jorma miss some lyrics and licks and he did play a few out of tune chords once or twice. Keep on rockin gentlemen!!
In their final electric tour, Hot Tuna cooked to please. They played a diverse 2 sets of tunes and was sharp. Jack's solos were amazing. Always nice to see them a cozy place like the Warner theatre. Only negative was the App. While attempting to pull out my ticket in front of the theatre, the App wouldn't let me in. So 20 minutes before the show, I had to uninstall, then reinstall the App to work and present my present my ticket. But HOT TUNA WAS EXCELLENT.
I’ve seen Hot Tuna more times than I can count all the way back to 1974 or 5. I have loved them every time. They have been really special in my life. This show was about the most rocking show I ever saw then do. Not better. Not worse. Just more rocking than most. They played 2 sets so they did a pretty lengthy show. As always a great performance. Great guitar and bass. Good drummer. I paid for parking in advance. Usually don t do that. Had an issue w arriving early but the lady took care of that for me. A man met me outside the elevator and explained I would be returning a different way. Very helpful. All staff were friendly and helpful. On the way out there were people directing the way back. Great experience overall. The only critisism I have is the metal detector people made me take off my belt. I think their system is antiquated there. I’ve been through hundreds and never have I had to do that. Great venue. Great sound. Great band. Great staff.
First saw Tuna (outside of Airplane) 49 years ago in DC at Lisner Auditorium. They were amazing then and they still are. Jorma and Jack were totally digging on each other and their music. Don’t think I’ve ever seen them before with such huge grins the entire show. I (and I think the whole audience) was blown away. Hope they change their minds about this being the last electric tour because anyone who can do something so well should never stop.
I love Hot Tuna's music and legacy. In this concert at Warner Theatre, they displayed virtuoso skills and musicianship. However the vocals were mostly drowned out acoustically which greatly detracted from my enjoyment of the show. The sound mix should have been much better !
Excellent show by Hot Tuna! There's a reason Jorma and Jack are in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Music ranged from hard rocking Funky 7 and Bowlegged Woman to beautiful melodies of Water Song. Jorma, Jack and Justin never disappoint- always a great show by exceptional musicians
While the Hot Tuna concert was good overall, I would have preferred a combination of acoustic and electric instead of all electric. And Jorma's vocals were often drowned out by the instruments so it was difficult to hear them. But both Jorma and Jack played great.
Outstanding show at the Warner Theater in dc. Playing many of their greats including many from America’s choice album that you seldom hear. What a tour. Sad that the electric band is retiring but hot tuna will continue!
Saying goodbye to electric Hot Tuna is difficult to swallow and the boys made it the best experience it could be. The musicianship and stage presence of Jorma and Jack were stellar as always. I enjoyed the addition of Steven Bernstein. It added a great new sound to the their last New York show. Three hours of jamming from two 80+ year old pioneers. What a treat!
I always love Hot Tuna - especially electric (how sad this is the last time:( ) But the sound at the beacon on the first level of the balcony was awful - I could not hear one work Jorma was saying. i thought you all upgraded the sound system?
Last Tuna Electric show in NYC ever! If you want to Go Fishing permanently, go out on top. They did. This show was the best! Thank you Jorma & Jack!
The boys were great as usual !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another great show by Jack, Jorma and company. Hard to believe I have had the pleasure of seeing Jorma for over 40 years now. Always great solo and always great with Jack. Typical great selection of songs and jams this past Saturday night at the wonderful Beacon.
What a great show, Jorma and Jack put on one hell of a show. Sad to say no more electric hot tuna.
