About
Home Free on Tour
Though Home Free are primarily considered a country group, the quintet's concerts are quite a bit more. First and foremost, they're a vocal act in the a cappella tradition, which means they know how to make five voices sound like a full band even without any instruments on the stage. They pull off this impressive achievement by incorporating lush harmonies, beatboxing and vocal counterpoint that harkens back to doo-wop and barbershop. While recent years have found Home Free moving toward a more country-based sound, with a repertoire that includes the likes of Vince Gill, Blake Shelton and Maren Morris, they also venture into plenty of other areas when they perform live. A cappella versions of tunes made famous by Ed Sheeran, Shakira or The O'Jays are just as likely to enter their performance repertoire.
Home Free in Concert
The a cappella phenomenon known as Home Free came into being in Mankato, Minnesota, in 2000 when five young men, including brothers Adam and Chris Rupp, joined their voices together for the first time. Their repertoire was all over the map, including country, pop, soul and rock 'n' roll. The group eventually hit the road hard, and began releasing albums on their own label in 2007 starting with From the Top. But things changed in a big way for Home Free when they won the TV competition show The Sing-Off in 2013. By that time they'd become more country-oriented, and after earning a record deal with Sony/Columbia their albums started regularly entering the upper rungs of country charts. Several personnel changes occurred over the years, the biggest when Chris Rupp departed in 2016, but in their current incarnation Home Free still bring the a cappella magic to the stage every time.

by Namenotyetused on 11/12/14Wilbur Theatre - BostonThese guys are SUPER talented - great music, beat boxing like no other, and funny to boot! The biggest disappointment was when Tim Faust mentioned they have no plans to return to Boston in their next tour. I certainly hope this changes - it would be a big loss for Boston! Terrific show!

by Suesox on 11/12/14Wilbur Theatre - BostonI was wowed by Home Free Vocal Band's performance at the Wilbur Theatre. Each member of the group had delightful stage presence, and the audience was treated to a real show. Every number was wonderfully choreographed, and the spotlight shifted seamlessly from one performer to another, as the lead vocal changed throughout songs. HFVB delivered a healthy helping of humor with their songs, clearly to the audience's delight. Adam Rupp's beat-boxing "Drum Solo" was outstanding. For more than six minutes, he presented a one-man show which could have convinced a person who wasn't looking that there was a full drum set on the stage.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Home Free was absolutely amazing!
by Maisfeeka on 11/12/14Wilbur Theatre - BostonFrom the first moment when they opened in the dark with Cruise, their voices soaring out of the darkness, straight through to their moving encore performance of God Bless the USA, we were all caught up in the magic of the amazing voices, presentation, incredibly low bass, and beat boxing that is Home Free. Tim rumbled us out of our chairs, Adam blew us away with his 'drum solo', Austin's voice soared, and Chris and Rob amazed with the clarity and power of their vocals. We were expecting a great show, but this was beyond great, a moment in time that I will never forget! Please bring them back soon!

Rating: 4 out of 5 Great Vocals!
by Just1opinion on 11/8/14Carolina Theatre - DurhamGreat vocals but the lighting used was not necessary. My husband gets vertigo so when the strobes started panning the crowd, he had to listen more than watch as he had to cover his eyes. I don't have that problem but found myself covering my eyes in some instances. A calming backdrop (there was not backdrop at all) and less lighting would have created a more enjoyable experience and allowed us to be swept up in the beautiful vocals that were enjoyed by all. The drummer vocal was over the top!
Rating: 5 out of 5 Home Free was outstanding
by soandsew on 11/8/14Carolina Theatre - DurhamThis was the second time I have seen them in concert and they topped earlier concert which I thought was great. Every member was featured so individual talents could be enjoyed. But the magic was with their variety of music, their combined voices and choreography. First visit to Carolina Theater was impressive. Lots of friendly staff, very comfortable venue, parking across the street and only $3.

by BJH50 on 11/8/14Carolina Theatre - DurhamReally enjoyed the band. Went with a friend and drove four hours to get there. It was worth the drive. We both enjoyed the show and wish it was a little longer. This band is really good and I would go see them again.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Excellent concert in a beautiful theater
by tomofapex on 11/8/14Carolina Theatre - DurhamAll I can say is that we thoroughly enjoyed the Home Free concert at the Carolina Theater in Durham, NC. The theater itself has been beautifully restored, and it's small enough for a more intimate experience. The two times we've been there, the attendants and ushers have been very friendly and helpful. Home Free's performance only added to it. They have great voices and were fun to watch perform. We can't wait to see them again!

Rating: 5 out of 5 Amazing music, laughter, fun!
by Anonymous on 11/8/14Carolina Theatre - DurhamThis was the best concert I've ever been to! We first saw the group on Tbe Sing-off. When we saw the tour coming to a location 3 hours away, we purchased tickets. We loved that they came on stage promptly at 8 pm and there was no opening act. From the first note to the last, we were in awe of the group's amazing talent. Each member had the opportunity to showcase their musical style and the group performed several different genres of music. The choreography and jokes added laughter throughout the show. I also liked that this particular venue wasn't too large so that everyone had really good seats. I would go again in a heartbeat!
Rating: 5 out of 5 Home Free was incredibly entertaining.
by Anonymous on 11/8/14Carolina Theatre - DurhamThe venue was great: Good acoustics and accommodations. Home Free was fun and engaging and the music did not disappoint! All vocals were spot on. My family (including 10&11 year olds) had a blast! We would see the band again anywhere and will definitely look to return to the Carolina Theatre for future shows.

by msjenjen70 on 10/20/14Times Union Ctr Perf Arts Terry Theater - JacksonvilleWe moved from Minneapolis to Key West 5 years ago. We planned our trip to Minnesota this past summer around when these guys would be performing. I was thrilled to see they were coming to Florida, even though it was still a 500 mile drive (one way). These guys are totally worth the 4500 miles we've traveled to see them. Their harmonies are so tight, and they are right on all the time.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Home Free was incomparable
by writingwithcoffee on 10/19/14Times Union Ctr Perf Arts Terry Theater - JacksonvilleHome Free was even better in person than any recording I have heard of them. They were charming, funny and perfectly in tune. They perform better with no instruments than most people do with them. The percussion sounds that Adam can make are so phenomenonal that words can't accurately describe it. The guys were great at being friendly and making eye contact. Truly a stellar performance.
