Home Free on Tour
Though Home Free are primarily considered a country group, the quintet's concerts are quite a bit more. First and foremost, they're a vocal act in the a cappella tradition, which means they know how to make five voices sound like a full band even without any instruments on the stage. They pull off this impressive achievement by incorporating lush harmonies, beatboxing and vocal counterpoint that harkens back to doo-wop and barbershop. While recent years have found Home Free moving toward a more country-based sound, with a repertoire that includes the likes of Vince Gill, Blake Shelton and Maren Morris, they also venture into plenty of other areas when they perform live. A cappella versions of tunes made famous by Ed Sheeran, Shakira or The O'Jays are just as likely to enter their performance repertoire.
Home Free in Concert
The a cappella phenomenon known as Home Free came into being in Mankato, Minnesota, in 2000 when five young men, including brothers Adam and Chris Rupp, joined their voices together for the first time. Their repertoire was all over the map, including country, pop, soul and rock 'n' roll. The group eventually hit the road hard, and began releasing albums on their own label in 2007 starting with From the Top. But things changed in a big way for Home Free when they won the TV competition show The Sing-Off in 2013. By that time they'd become more country-oriented, and after earning a record deal with Sony/Columbia their albums started regularly entering the upper rungs of country charts. Several personnel changes occurred over the years, the biggest when Chris Rupp departed in 2016, but in their current incarnation Home Free still bring the a cappella magic to the stage every time.
Home Free was excellent!!!!!!! The fire works afterwards were amazing too!!!!!
Home Free was superb! Great sound, beautiful weather, nice venue!
Awesome show - great opener as well. High-quality live performance; some originals and covers. Kept audience engaged. Fun personalities.
We enjoyed the concert very much. We have been fans of Home Free throughout the Sing-Off and ever since. Ashley Monroe was a revelation...enjoyed her very much. This is the first Home Free live concert we have been to and we will be going to many more! They are such a fantastic group and very funny as well. The guy who did the percussion solo was unbelievable! All of them are such great singers! The fireworks after the concert were probably the best we have ever seen.
it was one of most enjoyable concert night we have had in a long time, Home Free was great!!!
Home Free at Jackpot Junction in Southern Minnesota was spectacular. Sounded great, looked great and really connected with the crowd. Wonderful entertainment!
Home Free is getting better all the time! Their musical talent has always been great, now they are developing their showmanship and audience appeal to all ages. They include music from all genres and spotlight individual members talents! Watch for them to grow nationally!
Excellent performances... Words do not do justice...
This was our first Ashley Monroe concert---she was great. This was the second Home Free concert---they were once again a class act! Thank you to both groups for a very entertaining evening filled with laughs and great music!
So talented and entertaining!!!!! Loved their songs and interaction with the audience.
They are even better than I remember! We saw them on the Sing-Off, but this is the first time we have seen them in person. They are excellent. Their harmony is great and their percussion guy is unreal. I don't know how he does what he does, but it is impressive! Great show, would go and see them again without a doubt.
Home Free was even much better than expected. My husband who is always very sceptical was completely entertained. Recommended for all ages.
Great concert!!! These guys totally rock! Would definitely see them again!
Best concert I've been to in along time. Glad they won on the Sing Off.
The show was amazing! I had never heard of this band before and only went because a friend mentioned it. I got last minute tickets and we love the show!!! Amazing vocals and the humor was very entertaining! I would definitely see them again!!
I loved the group and if more similar groups came, I would love to watch again!
This concert was by far one of THE best I have ever attended! I will be making sure to see them again.
I would recommend everyone to see Home Free and the Orpheum should bring them back!
These guys are amazing ! If they don't win The Sing Off I will never watch again. So talented...just perfect. Cant't wait to seem them again! Love the Fitzgerald Theater venue as well.
We had never heard of the Home Free Vocal Band, but decided to go after hearing them on a radio interview. The show was awesome. The singing was spectacular and it was intermixed with comedic moments that kept everything light and fun.
