Shakar is as spellbinding in person as on the radio. Calm, direct, hints of humor, huge amount of thought provoking content. The daughter was ok, though unless she's being groomed to take his place, nepotism isn't welcome and didn't seem to be his style. The Q&A was a waste as the 7 able to speak were obviously looking for attention and didn't add anything, I left. A Q&A written questions random draw would be more effective and less about the persons asking the question. Would love to see him again, glad he's available on podcasts and MPR!
The content of the show was very invigorating - 7 big ideas delivered with the expected thorough research and storytelling. Enjoyed the main program immensely. However the audience QA and “best advice” has got to stop. Please, please, please do not ruin a good evening by indulging the “talk radio call in session” which just leads to people saying nothing, inarticulately and without the thought exhibited by Shankar.
The show was just incredible. It was everything I expected it to be - informative, entertaining, and thought provoking. Hidden Brain is an awesome show and to see Shankar Vedamtam live was an experience I won't forget. I would go again.
Excellent show! Entertaining and informative. Hated the venue. If you need accessibility, this theater is not for you.
I was really pleased with this format. It was a lovely venue, and honestly just hearing Shankar’s voice IRL was so exciting :-). But more than that, thought it was well programmed and as enlightening as a podcast ep - just more exciting because in person. Only drawback was Q&As ran long and really had to leave but didn’t want to be rude - just made a stressful last 30 min (and questions weren’t so good it was worth it)
Wished it was a little longer, Mr. Vedanta’s did not disappoint. Highly recommend his podcast.
It was informative, insightful, entertaining, AND social! I could not believe how quickly the time had passed, and had left me wanting for more (as if the seven pearls that Shankar had imparted weren't enough!) The strong encouragement of talking with a stranger during intermission had led to a discovery of mutual friends with this person, and after exchanging contact information, my husband and I have been invited to visit them in their home...in Italy! I am very grateful to have attended, and am very much looking forward to the next tour!!!
Shankar was the perfect combination of personable and insightful. His anecdotal delivery was spot-on and very relatable. His daughter’s surprise appearance was a bonus, and she was great as well. I will make a point of going to Shankar’s next Hidden Brain offering, and highly recommend his tour to anyone interested in Social Science.
He’s brilliant. It was mind opening and interactive. It is a privilege to see his brilliance at work in person.
Enjoyable afternoon with great host. Presentation was excellent
While a long time listener of Hidden Brain podcasts, it was a real treat to see and hear Shankar Vedantam live. For over two hours Shankar held the audience spellbound with his articulate takes on seven insights he has made into our incredible brains.
We came to the show as avid listeners of Hidden Brain, the podcast and weekly show at our NPR station. The event, was amazing. His fantastic ability to communicate all his learning trough so many years is unbelievable. A must see!
My husband and I have been listening to and learning from "Hidden Brain"episodes for years. Shankar Vedantam's guests, interview style, topic selections have been meaningful and useful. Last Saturday's opportunity to attend his live event was terrific! Hopefully, he will visit Seattle or some other Pacific NW city in the not-too-distant future.
Surprisingly, a guy coughing for two hours was still entertaining and educational. He’s as nice in person as he is on the radio, and more fun. Having his daughter share a couple of anecdotes was great too.
If you think highly of Shankar's podcasts then you'll be blown away by a live engagement. Ever informative, engaging and thought provoking he adds humour, humility and authenticity. Would not hesitate to see him again, and you should not pass up an opportunity to do so.
Unfortunately was disappointed and could not find it interesting because I already knew 80% of the things being talked about and I get bored every easily when listening to things I already know. But I really appreciated the free 1 year subscription to calm!
