  • Great performance, mediocre audience

by P. C. on 3/5/19E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - AkronRating: 5 out of 5

This was the first time I've seen something like this. I've been to many movies and I've been to many concerts, but putting the two of them together was really fantastic. I had a son with me who is a big Harry Potter fan, and this was an easy way to get him to appreciate the live orchestra, and all the work that goes into making the musical track for a movie. The audience, however, seemed to think they just purchased a movie ticket and forgot that there was a live orchestra. A large number of people got up right when the movie ended, starting making all kinds of noise, and exited the hall. I paid much more than I would have to just go see the movie in order to listen to and appreciate the live music, however there were a lot of people who were only there for the movie. They weren't just teenagers either, but older people who should know better. We stayed through the end of the credits and expressed appreciation for the orchestra and choir. I was able to explain to my young son the importance of being cultured and to have appreciation for the efforts of others. Concert was excellent, and I appreciated being able to look down on the conductor and see how he was able to keep the orchestra in time with the movie. The experience was great except for the audience.

  • Excellent!

by TinaC on 3/5/19E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - AkronRating: 5 out of 5

This was our second year and it was even better than the first. My family loves Harry Potter and it was exciting to see it on the big screen again. The subtitles were helpful when lots of activity was going on on-screen. The orchestra did an absolutely amazing job! We are already excited about next year.

Took my best friend as a surprise birthday gift. We had a wonderful time. Simply magical.

  • Great for the whole family

by SH on 3/5/19E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - AkronRating: 5 out of 5

Yes, you watch the movie. But you get to hear to orchestra play ALL the music. It's such an amazing experience, especially for those who have never been to see the orchestra play. My teenage kids love to attend these performances and over the years, it has given them an appreciation for the music in film and for the orchestra as a whole. We enjoy the atypical laid back environment of an orchestra performance, the conductor's encouragement to clap and cheer, and the happy faces of those who attend wearing their respective house attire. It's a must see for any Harry Potter fan.

  • Wonderful!

I loved it! The orchestra was amazing, they were so good I almost forgot they were under the screen during some parts of the movie. I will be getting tickets to see Goblet of Fire when the date is announced!

Prisoner of Azkaban with the Akron Symphony was outstanding, in Ron’s words, Brilliant! We took our entire family of 12, including grandchildren. Looking forward to the Goblet of Fire next!

The Akron Symphony okayed thebscore beautifully—it added a depth of richness to have the music live.

  • Loved the BPO doing this!!!

by Kat on 2/27/19Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 3 out of 5

I loved that the BPO was able to do this but I would have preferred the BPO just playing without the movie in the background. It took away from the music to not be able to enjoy just the music.

  • Fun time!

Enjoyed the music. Was never off a beat. Great seats!!!

  • HP Concert Series - BPO

    by S. M. on 2/27/19Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen the movie multiple times so I was curious of how it would be with the BPO—they were perfect! Thoroughly enjoyed the event — waiting for the on sale tickets for Chamber of Secrets!

  • SO FUN- I'll be sure to attend them all!

  • Best performance

by Lisa P on 2/27/19Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 5 out of 5

My daughter and I loved the experience, i cant wait till the second movie. The only thing to improve is the merchandise, have more people or boothes open.

  • Flawless performance by BPO

by First Step Radon Testing on 2/27/19Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 5 out of 5

My daughter, grand daughters and I abosolutely loved the live music with the movie. The conductor was spot on. The only improvement I would suggest is having the BPO on graduated risers from front to back so we can see each of the sections. We could only see the string section. The harpest should have been more visible during the his/her part of the movie.

  • Breathtaking experience!

    by S. M. on 2/27/19Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 5 out of 5

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was one of the best experiences I have had. Listening and watching the BPO play during the classic HP movie was amazing. First off, who doesn't love Harry Potter!!? Take the beautiful and sometimes chilling music and have Shea's as the perfect venue, who can ever complain? I can't wait for the next movie performance!

  • Magically Enchanting

by Fairietail on 2/27/19Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 5 out of 5

Whether you are a Harry Potter fan or not, this was an amazing performance. It was a truly magical experience to watch the movie and be surrounded by the uplifting sounds of the orchestra. Beautiful event for all ages.

  • Amazing show

by Spartan75 on 2/26/19Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 3 out of 5

So, I know the review name and stars don't match. The show was amazing. It was nice to see The Sorcerer's Stone on the big screen again. The Orchestra was amazing and on point. I'd love to see The Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban next. However, my spouse refuses. We went at 8 PM on a Friday night for a romantic experience, which was ruined by families. At the start of the show the conductor said feel free to cheer at times during the show. This was cool and all, for the first 5-10 minutes, but not the entire show. Some parents allowed their kids to scream, boo, cheer, squeal, and make any noise possible the entire show. Some lady behind me thought it was funny her kid shrilled into my ear the whole time. My ear and head hurt after. I get kids are kids and the parents paid for the expensive seats too, but have some respect for all the couples on dates trying to enjoy the show. I may try the next two if they come to Rochester, but it will not be with my spouse, for he refuses.

  • Fantastic Show!

The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra performed the soundtrack seamlessly with the movie. It was an unbelievable performance. I hope to attend The Chamber of Secrets in the future.
