Harry Potter and The Cursed Child

by CB on 3/1/20Lyric Theatre - New York

A great show with amazing effects. The play has the ability to bring the movie to the stage with great precision. The story line was great and the play does a great job of bringing in multiple aspects from the book and movie. A must see for ALL, or just Potter lovers.

    Amazing and magical time

by Doorie on 2/29/20Lyric Theatre - New York

I am the Potterhead in the family but it was too good an opportunity not to miss during the family trip to New York. My family had watched all the movies because of me so when we watched Part 1 they were able to understand and pick up. We were all amazed by all the "live" magic but the acting was incredible as well. I had wished we had seen part 2 but that will be another night. The gift shop is only open during intermission and for a short amount of time before and after the show so I would make use of that time since I, unfortunately, was not able to check it out. Either way, I would recommend it for anyone and for the family.

    Amazing

by Emily on 2/29/20Lyric Theatre - New York

It was an amazing show. The stage was set so realistic and the performance was stunning. My only concern is that a few times people were late to there seats and caused others to have to get up to have them seated.

Harry Potter and the cursed child!

by T on 2/29/20Lyric Theatre - New York

Absolutely amazing for children and adults! The acting and stage effects were beyond what I imagined. We only saw part 1 and we can’t wait for part 2. I highly suggest parents bring a seat booster, my youngest had a bit of a hard time seeing, it helped sitting in the balcony.

    Beyond amazing!

by Jay on 2/26/20Lyric Theatre - New York

I purchased my tickets in August of 2019. It felt like forever, but I finally got to see the show on February 23 and I have to say it was worth the wait. After having read the book/script I was beyond happy that the show stayed true to it! Everything from the acting to the set to the imagery was incredible! Yet another reason that I will forever be a Harry Potter fan! Broadway, you did it justice!! Amazing show! Bravo

    Magical, fun and satisfying

by HelenJ on 2/26/20Lyric Theatre - New York

Harry Potter all grown up and dealing with parenthood and the ongoing fight against evil. Really great stage effects that bring magic to life! A talented cast believably extends our favourite stories and wraps up some loose ends in a really kind way. Thoroughly enjoyable and well worth the investment of time to see both parts!

    An Absolutely Magical Experience

by RavenMaster86 on 2/25/20Lyric Theatre - New York

From the moment I laid eyes on the Lyric Theatre I knew this play was going to be an experience. And that first impression certainly was correct! I thought the experience as a hole was phenomenal. Everything about the theatre was immersed in the Wizarding World and added greatly to the experience! From the music playing throughout the theatre before the show started and during the intermissions, to the decor, photo ops, wall art and even carpeting. Everything about the Lyric Theatre immersed you into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! So even before you took your seat, you knew you were going to see something special and magical. Of course once you got to your seat you were able to continue to see the attention to detail in the decor of the theatre itself and you were able to feel the essences of the Wizarding World. Now as for the show itself, This show was absolutely astonishing. The acting and special affects were as magical as any true fan of Harry Potter could expect (within reason of the fact that this is an actual “real world” live play. The props used, the clothing, the make up, all the little details that matter were flawless. I do consider myself a big Harry Potter fan and did read the published rehearsal script when it was first released to the public. Therefore I already knew the story and very happy with how everything in the play was utilized to bring the story to life. (Potential Mild Spoilers ahead with my comments on opportunities and/or improvements) The biggest areas of opportunity I seen for this play was one: the sorting hat should have been at a minimum a witches hat. Not a bowler hat like what is used in the play. As a long time Harry Potter fan I was displeased that with all the wonderful props, costumes and special affects, something as iconic as the Sorting Hat was not an actual witches hat. Sure some may appreciate the change, but I am one fan that did not. The second opportunity became more apparent to me after discussing the play with a couple of attendees that attended the play (whom I had not met previously, nor had read the published rehearsal script beforehand). We all agreed that the story in the first act did “drag” a little in the beginning. However the most glaring opportunity that I thought there was because I had to “explain” this to these attendees (since I had read the rehearsal script) was that I only understood that they were “flying” through the first few years of Albus’s Hogwarts years because I had read the published rehearsal script when it was released. These other attendees admitted to me that the play did not seem to portray the rapidly passing time very accurately. And since I was already familiar with the story I already understood what was happening so I was able to follow along but I do agree it did seem slightly rushed and discombobulated. So other than those two opportunities I believe this is a play that will truly delight all Harry Potter fans and even those unfamiliar with the story and characters. The overall experience of this production by far makes up for any perceived opportunities I noticed, and in the end is a show I would gladly invest in seeing again.

    What a day!

by Bentley40 on 2/24/20Lyric Theatre - New York

Recently saw Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway! We decided to see both parts on Wednesday, which I was skeptical about initially- would it be too much for one day?! I highly recommend seeing this show in one go at it. It was so fun to make an ENTIRE day of a broadway experience. The plot was engaging, the magic, captivating and some excellent performances along the way. It's definitely a lot, and could be a little dense for those less familiar with a few of the original books, but it is definitely worth the experience. I want to see it again! After reading all the books, watching all the movies, and visiting Harry Potter world.
